    Situated just beside the North Road at the Pendeen end, Wheal Hearle comprises two engine houses which were home to a ten inch winding engine and a thirty inch pumping engine. It was in production from about 1855 and, at its peak, employed just over one hundred men , women and boys. The mine appears to have been short lived with little reported after 1865.     Trevellas Porth • Description:Trevellas Porth is a small pebble beach with a large area of rocks at low tide. The beach is close to the larger beach at Trevaunance Cove, which can be reached on the coast path • Safety:Signs warn of strong undercurrents and not to swim. Signs also warns of unstable cliffs and not to cross to Trevaunance Cove via the beach • Access:There is a path from the car park down over rocks to the beach which is not suitable for wheelchairs • Dogs:Dogs allowed all year at Trevellas Porth • Directions:Trevellas Porth is close to St Agnes which is 12 miles from Newquay and 9 miles from Redruth. Use the A30 from the east or west. At the Chiverton Cross roundabout (about 8 miles from Redruth) turn onto the B3277 the road to St Agnes. At St Agnes at a mini roundabout turn right. Proceed through St Agnes on this road which becomes one-way. Past the church, follow the road down to another roundabout. Go straight across the roundabout and take the second left (where signposted to "Blue Hills Tin"). Follow this road to a junction and here turn right and follow this road down into a valley. After a small bridge turn left and follow this lane down the valley to the Trevellas Porth car park. Alternatively park at Trevaunance Cove and walk the coast path to Trevellas Porth, taking about 20 minutes • Parking:1 small car park close to the beach • Toilets:No • Facilities:None, cafés and restaurants at Trevaunance Cove • Activities:None.

AT CHIVERTON Pub CROSS SERVICES WC Public Toilets WC H COURSE OF OLD RAILWAY LINES I G A START HERE BLACKWATER C F B ST.AGNES HERITAGE TRAIL E D c.1910 The Institute dates from 1890 and was donated to the inhabitants of Blackwater by John Passmore Edwards (1823-1911), a London newspaper proprietor and philanthropist who was born in Blackwater, in a cottage in A Back Lane which today runs beside the Institute. Between 1889 and 1904 John Passmore Edwards financed the construction of 72 public buildings, many in his native Cornwall, including the Miners’ and Mechanics’ Institute in St Agnes Village (see Walk 1) and the Village Hall in Mithian (see Walk 6). But it was the Blackwater building that began the chain of donations.
