The Lakers under the lead of Sisti proved everyone wrong aft er the Lakers went 26-7-1 throughout the regular 2009-10 N/A season to capture their 12th consecuti ve CHA regular season ti tle, and won their 11th conference tournament championship. Captain Christi ne Bestland was named CHA Player of the Year aft er posti ng a career high 72 points in the season. Goaltender 2010-11 CHA Coach of the Year Stephanie Ciampa captured the CHA tournament MVP for her performances. 2011-12 N/A 2012-13 N/A Aft er seven straight wins, the Lakers found themselves competi ng against No. 2 Cornell University and conti nue to break their NCAA Tournament appearance record of nine straight. Sophomore Jenna Dingeldein scored in a thrilling overti me game to ad- vance Mercyhurst to their third NCAA Frozen Four appearance. In Minnesota, the Lakers faced Boston University where they fell TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS 4-1. The Lakers, under captain Christi ne Bestland, fi nished their season with an overall record of 29-7-1. YEAR ACCOMPLISMENT Mercyhurst went 23-8-3 throughout the 2011-12 regular season and fi nished 8-1-3 in the College Hockey America (CHA). The 1999-00 N/A Lakers fell in the CHA Championship Title game to Robert Morris University, but sti ll received a bid to the NCAA Nati onal Tourna- ment for the eight straight year, where they fell in the semifi nals to Wisconsin. Goaltender Hillary Patt enden set a NCAA Division 2000-01 GLWHA Regular Season Champion I record winning 100 career-wins at Mercyhurst. Forward Bailey Bram scored over 200 points to be the only fourth player in the 2001-02 GLWHA Regular Season Champion program history to do so. GLWHA Championship 2002-03 CHA Regular Season Champion The Lakers have thrived and prospered under Sisti and, with their 14th season of intercollegiate play approaching, they only look to get bett er. CHA Championship 2003-04 CHA Regular Season Champion Mercyhurst fi nished their 2011 season 29-6, with perfect 16-0-0 ending in CHA. The Lakers took the CHA Championship ti tle for CHA Championship the tenth consecuti ve ti me and took the regular season ti tle for the 11th year. The team qualifi ed for the seventh consecuti ve ti me to the NCAA tournament before falling to Boston University in the quarterfi nals. 2004-05 CHA Regular Season Champion CHA Championship Hurst fi nished the 2010 season 29-6, with a 16-0 mark in CHA. The team qualifi ed for the NCAA Tournament, before losing in NCAA Appearance the quarterfi nal round. Sisti recruited and coached Meghan Agosta, who was a four-ti me All-American, leading scorer in Division 2005-06 CHA Regular Season Champion I women’s hockey history, two-ti me Olympic gold medalist for Team Canada, and hockey MVP of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. CHA Championship NCAA Appearance 2006-07 CHA Regular Season Champion In 2009, the Lakers built a 30-3-3 record and made their second straight appearance at the Frozen Four, fi nishing as nati onal semi- fi nalists aft er a 3-2 overti me loss to eventual nati onal fi nalist Cornell. Sisti ’s squad ranked No. 1 in the country for 23 weeks, led CHA Championship the country in almost every stati sti cal category, including scoring off ense, scoring margin, short-handed goals scored and winning NCAA Appearance percentage, and broke the NCAA record for most short-handed goals scored in a season (21). They also captured their eighth CHA 2007-08 Co-CHA Regular Season Champion championship in additi on to winning the regular-season trophy. CHA Championship Several players had breakout seasons, with the duo of then-juniors and leading the way. Bendus NCAA Appearance became the fi rst Mercyhurst player to win the Patt y Kazmaier award aft er totaling a career-best 65 points. She also won the NCAA 2008-09 CHA Regular Season Champion Elite 88 Award and was named a First Team All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Associati on and the College Sports CHA Championship Informati on Directors of America. Scanzano scored 65 points and was named a Second Team AHCA All-American. NCAA Appearance In 2008-09, Sisti guided the Lakers on another remarkable run. Aft er starti ng the year 3-4, Mercyhurst went on to win 26 of its NCAA Women’s Frozen Four Appearance next 27 games to capture its seventh straight CHA crown and qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Assistant captain Valerie Chouinard was named CHA Student-Athlete of the Year and joined 2009-10 30-3-3 14-1-1 Agosta as the second player to score 200 points in a career with a 2010-11 29-6-0 16-0-0 goal and an assist against Minnesota. 2011-12 23-8-3 8-1-3 The 2008-09 season was a turning point for Sisti and the Lakers aft er several seasons of promising runs coming to an abrupt end- 2012-13 29-6-1 17-3-0 ing. The four previous Laker squads combined for a 99-25-14 record, but saw their seasons end with a one-goal loss in the fi rst TOTAL 363-98-30 144-9-11 round of the NCAA Tournament. In 2004-05, Mercyhurst lost at Harvard 5-4 in an epic triple-overti me thriller that sti ll ranks among the longest playoff games in NCAA women’s hockey history. Regardless, Sisti ’s teams have proven to be winners. Over the past 14 seasons, Sisti has accrued a 363-98-30 record, averaging nearly 25 wins to just seven losses a season. In conference play, the Lakers have been unstoppable. Since joining College Hockey America, the Lakers have gone 144-9-11 through the regular season and won every regular-season and nearly every postseason ti tle since the league’s incepti on. Before that, Mercyhurst had won the Great Lakes Women’s Hockey Associati on ti tle twice while registering a 13-1-2 mark during two seasons of play. His eff orts have earned him numerous honors over the years. Sisti was named Division I Coach of the Year in 2005 and USCHO.com Coach of the Year in 2007. He has been recognized as a fi nalist for Division I Coach of the Year on fi ve occasions, too, most recently in 2009. Conference coaches have also named him coach of the year four ti mes - three ti mes as a coach in the CHA. Off the ice, Sisti has developed his players into role model student-athletes. For 14 consecuti ve years, the team’s cumulati ve grade point average has been above a 3.0. The Lakers have also been very acti ve in the community. The team annually donates over 200 hours on various community service projects, and spends ti me at several local schools instructi ng students on life skills. Prior to coaching, Sisti played four years of collegiate hockey at Canisius College. A four-year lett erwinner, Sisti ranks in the top-5 in several categories, including career points (163) and goals (74). He also shares the school record for most goals in a game with four and holds the single-season record for hat tricks with six. Sisti helped the Griff s to a 21-11-0 record with 13 goals and 19 assists as a freshman. He was named the team’s top forward for his 33-goal, 57-point eff ort in 1988-89, and served as team captain for his senior season in 1989-90. A 1990 graduate of Canisius, Sisti was inducted into the Canisius Athleti c Hall of Fame in 2002. A nati ve of Buff alo, N.Y., Sisti resides in Erie with his wife, Nicole, and their two dogs.
