GENERAL INFORMATION

The following is a list of currently available scholarships at Southeastern Louisiana University. (Please note that scholarship availability and selection criteria listed on the following pages are subject to change at any time.) ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Beginning Freshman Academic Scholarships: • Any beginning freshman admitted to Southeastern with a 24 or higher ACT and a minmum 3.00 high school grade point average qualifies for a scholarship at Southeastern. • Although there is no longer a format deadline, students are strongly encouraged to apply early, as the number of awards will be dependent on the availability of funds. For more information, students may visit our web site at www.selu.edu or call the Office of Scholarship Services at (985) 549-5116.

Southeastern Merit Award: Award of $1,000 per semester for eight semesters to entering freshman documenting status as a National Merit Semi-Finalist or Finalist. To retain one of these scholarships, a recipient must maintain full-time status in the University and a minimum 3.0 GPA each semester. Contact Scholarship Services, SLU 10768, Hammond, LA 70402 or call (985) 549-2244 for more information. EXCEL: Award of $500.00 per semester for 4 semesters to Beginning Freshmen. Recipients must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 and be nominated by their principal and/or guidance counselor. To retain one of these scholarships, a recipient must show demonstrated leadership, citizenship, and community service from high school, participate in a Leadership class during the first semester at Southeastern, maintain a 2.5 GPA each semester, and maintain full-time status at the University. After 4 semesters, recipients may reapply and must show demonstrated leadership at Southeastern to be considered for an additional award. Non-Resident Fee Waiver Scholarship: The Board of Supervisors has authorized each college and university to identify and award non-resident fee waiver scholarships to academically talented students among out-of-state applicants to the university. The fee waiver is a privilege that is not necessarily awarded to every qualified student. To qualify, the student must submit to the institution a letter of application for the waiver and meet standards listed under the “Waiver of Non-Resident Fees”. Southeastern Assistance Grants: Award of $500.00 per semester for 4 semesters to students who show expressed need, motivation, and have at least a 3.0 GPA and 19 ACT (for beginning freshman)/3.0 GPA (continuing and transfer students). Early Graduates Summer Incentive Scholarship: Award of $600.00 for the summer semester to Juniors and Seniors with the ability to graduate within 30 credit hours. This award is for one summer only and the recipient must carry a minimum of 6 hours. Southeastern’s Non-traditional Scholarship: Award of $500.00 per semester for 8 semesters to any undergraduate non-traditional student (25 or older) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 who is enrolled a minimum of 6 hours. STATE SUPPORTED SCHOLARSHIPS The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) administers various state and federal post secondary scholarship and grant programs. The information listed below is a brief list of some of the scholarships offered by the state of Louisiana. This is not a complete list of all state supported scholarships in Louisiana. The criteria for each scholarship listed below has been condensed. 85 LOSFA’s primary scholarship program is the “Louisiana Tuition Opportunity Program for Students” (TOPS). This program replaces both the Tuition Assistance Plan (TAP) and the Louisiana Honors Scholarship effective July 1, 1998. To be eligible, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year (contact LOSFA for deadline dates); must have at least a score of 20 on the ACT and a minimum 2.5 GPA; must be a Louisiana resident (domiciled in Louisiana); and must have graduated from a Louisiana high school no earlier than May of 1997. Certain high school core curriculum requirements as designated by LOSFA must also be met. A complete detailed of the qualifications is available in the TOPS brochure which can be obtained by calling the Financial Aid Office at Southeastern (985) 549-2244 or by contacting LOSFA at 1- 800-259-5626 Ext. 1012. High School Counselors should also have eligibility and application information for TOPS.

THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS SCHOLARSHIPS

Samuel L. Genco Scholarship: The scholarship which has a total value of $100.00 is awarded each fall and spring semester by the Recreational Sports and Wellness Department in memory of Sammy Genco, a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University, a student employee in the Recreational Sports and Wellness Department, an active participant in intramural activities and the first president of Southeastern’s Extramural Club. Applicants must be a senior for the semester applying for, must have worked for the Department for at least a year, must have participated in at least two events or areas of the Recreation Sports and Wellness program the preceding year and must have a 2.4 or higher cumulative GPA. Applications may be obtained from the Recreational Sports and Wellness Department. David “Wolfie” Philippe Memorial Scholarship: Gamma Beta Phi Honor and Service Society has named this scholarship in honor of David “Wolfie” Philippe who was a severely handicapped honor student and an active member of Gamma Beta Phi. The scholarship provides financial assistance for a needy student who has demonstrated the ability to overcome physical hardships and still excel scholastically. The scholarship is awarded to Gamma Beta Phi members and first priority is given to handicapped students. (Recipient must be a full time student.) Applications are available in the office of the advisor of Gamma Beta Phi Honor and Service Society in the Student Union, Room 110. William Hodding Carter Award: The William Hodding Carter Award valued at $100.00 is awarded annually during the Spring Division of Student Affairs Awards Banquet to a junior of high academic standing (usually in the top 1% of the class) who has exhibited outstanding university and community service. The scholarship is provided by Mrs. William Hodding Carter, Jr. of Greenville, Mississippi, in honor of the late Mr. Carter’s father, who was a member of the original Board of Trustees of the University. Selection of the award is made by a committee appointed by the Assistant Dean of Student Development. Bradley Lane Brummel Endowed Kappa Alpha: In order to be eligible to apply for this scholarship students must be undergraduate members in good standing of Kappa Alpha Fraternity and meet the following criteria: minimum of 30 hours earned, 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA, full-time status, and financial need. To maintain this award, the recipient must have a cumulative 2.5 or higher GPA and full time student status. Zada Ellen Cheatwood: This scholarship will be awarded to the person selected to serve as Student Government Association (SGA) President. The recipient will receive financial support during the academic year they serve as SGA President. Student Government Association Freshman Leadership: Students applying for this scholarship award must have: full-time student status, a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, completed the Freshman Leadership Seminar, completed of 30 hours of service, and completed 15 hours of service to SGA.

FEE WAIVER SCHOLARSHIPS

Senior Citizen Fee Waiver: Students who are 60 years of age or older (proof of date of birth is required) and are a resident of Louisiana are not charged General Fees for 3 credit hours nor an ID fee. Other registration fees and special fees will not be waived under this policy nor will individuals enrolled under this waiver be granted reductions in for materials and supplies required at the University Bookstore. This fee waiver will be limited to three credit hours only. In order to receive this waiver, first-time students must apply for the waiver in the Controller’s Office. Faculty/Staff Fee Waiver: Faculty and Staff members who are currently employed and have completed two years of continuous full-time employment by the last day of regular registration for the semester in which enrollment is requested are eligible for a fee waiver. Waiver amounts are awarded with respect to hours registered. Dependent Fee Waiver: Spouses and children of Faculty and Staff members who are currently employed and who have completed five years of full-time employment as of the last day of regular registration for the semester of enrollment may attend Southeastern Louisiana University. Waiver amounts are awarded to undergraduate students only with respect to hours registered. Generally, children who qualify will be limited to those who are eligible dependents for purposes during the calendar year in which the fee exemption is issued.

86 Southeastern Scholars Program: High school students with an ACT composite score 24 and permission of their principal. Eligible students receive a scholarship for tuition fees for up to six hours of enrollment.

COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIPS

Music Scholarships: Southeastern Louisiana University offers financial recognition in the form of performance grants (in varying amounts based on the student’s performance, talent, and scholarship), to highly motivated students of music who have the potential for success. The selected students must maintain full-time status throughout the semester and contribute successfully to prescribed activities of the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts. Each award is made for one semester and may be renewed by the head of the department. Application should be made to the head of the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts. Frances Hook Scholarship Fund: This award program is designed to encourage students on all levels of their creative development. Therefore we have various price levels. In some areas, students may receive supplementary art instruction outside of the school. Applicant must be a college undergraduate, under 24 years of age. Application deadline is March 1 of each year. Applicant should contact the Financial Aid Office or write to the Frances Hook Scholarship Fund, 1910 W. Country Road B, Roseville, MN 55113. Ralph R. Pottle Honor Scholarship: Number of awards: One scholarship in the amount of $500, payable at the end of the recipient’s freshman year. Person or organization providing the assistance: The family of Dr. Ralph R. Pottle. To be considered for this award, student must be full-time freshman majoring in music. Procedures for making application: Students need not apply; the selection is made by the faculty of the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts. This award is made to the outstanding freshman music major at the end of the freshman year. Recipients are selected on the basis of musicianship, scholarship, leadership, and contribution to the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts. The scholarship is presented by Ralph R. Pottle, Jr. and Fern Pottle Atkinson in honor of their father, Dr. Ralph R. Pottle, organizer of the Department of Fine Arts and Department Head until 1964. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Johnnie McGary, Jr. Memorial Debate Scholarship: Scholarship in the amount of $250 per semester. Person or organization providing the assistance: Twenty-First District Judicial Bar Association. Applicants must display excellence in debating and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.85. Interested persons should contact the Director of Forensics, Department of Communication and Theater. The deadline for applying is June 1. Recipients are selected on the basis of competence in debating. Ralph McGill Scholarship: The Ralph McGill Scholarship Fund, a memorial to the late publisher of The Atlanta Constitution, offers scholarships to those students who have completed at least two years of college and who have demonstrated an abiding interest in the news and editorial phase of newspapering. Scholarships are limited to those young men and women whose roots lie in the South. Applicants must convince the awards committee that they firmly intend to pursue a career in daily or weekly newspapering and that their aptitudes are such that they are likely to become leaders in this field. A 3.0 grade point average will be required to maintain the scholarship. Applications may be obtained from the Ralph McGill Scholarship Fund, Box 4689, Atlanta, GA 30302. A 500-word letter must accompany each application giving reasons for seeking a Ralph McGill Scholarship. Applications must also be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a college authority. Awards will be in an amount not to exceed $1,500 for the school year. Awards for the upcoming scholastic year will be for the third or fourth year of college. Deadline for applications is May 1. Harry S. Truman Scholarship: Fifty-three awards are given nationwide. Awards are made to students in their junior year who demonstrate a firm commitment to public service and who are preparing for a career in government. They must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 and be in the upper quartile of their class. They must also show potential for leadership in public service. The award covers tuition, fees, books, room and board and can be extended to cover graduate students. Students are nominated by a Faculty Committee from the Department of History and Government and approved by the President of the University. One recipient is chosen from each state on the basis of results of competitive testing and interviewing. Louisiana Police Jury Association Scholarship: One award in the amount of $250 is given each year. Person or organization providing the assistance: The Louisiana Police Jury Association. Student eligibility requirements: (1) Recipient must be entering or have already begun his or her senior year majoring in Government or Education specializing in Government or Social Studies; (2) must be a resident of Louisiana and a graduate of a Louisiana high school; (3) be of good moral character; (4) must maintain a scholastic average worthy of such an award. Procedure for making application: No application is necessary, as the student is nominated by the Head of the Department of History and Government, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the President of the University. Dr. Roy E. Hyde Award: Dr. Roy E. Hyde, retired Professor Emeritus of Sociology, made this award possible. Dr. Hyde was formerly Head of the Social Science Department and is Dean Emeritus of Liberal Arts. The award is given each year to the outstanding senior in sociology. It consists of a plaque for the recipient and a permanent listing of the recipient’s name on a plaque in the departmental office.

87 Factors used in the selection process include academic average and competence in sociology. Applications may be obtained from the Head of the Department of Sociology. American Legion SLU ROTC Scholarships: Two annual awards of $500, one each given by the American Legion Hammond Post #156 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #156, are awarded to sophomore or junior students who want to pursue a commission as a Second Lieutenant through the SLU Army ROTC Program. Recipients must have earned between 30 and 60 semester hours and pursue at least 12 hours per semester with an overall GPA of 2.0. Recipients must also be qualified to enter the Advanced ROTC Program and be recommended by the Professor of Military Science for the award. Social Work & Sociology Club Scholarships: Four merit scholarships are to be awarded annually, if possible, to qualified Social Work & Sociology Club members, contingent upon availability of funds. Criteria for qualification and application forms may be obtained from club officers, the departmental office, or by writing the Social Work & Sociology Club, SLU 919, Hammond, LA 70402-0919. Southern Farmers Association Scholarship: Six scholarships of $300 each will be awarded each academic year to students in Arkansas and Louisiana. Entering freshmen or upper-class students majoring in Agriculture or Home may apply. Interested students should apply to the Head of the Department of Biological Sciences prior to June 1. Nominees are forwarded by June 10 to the S.F.A. Board of Directors who make the final selection. Fred W. Yates and Camille Yates Endowment: Number of awards varies. Person or organization providing the assistance: Mr. and Mrs. John N. Gallaspy established the scholarship in honor of her father, Mr. Fred W. Yates. Applicants must be Horticulture or Biology students, with interest in forestry and urban plantings, must have earned 30 hours at Southeastern, and have a 2.7 cumulative GPA. Interested students should apply to the Head of the Department of Biological Sciences prior to registration each semester. Selections made on the basis of financial need, interest in forestry, and academic record. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Louisiana Garden Club Federation Jo N. Evans Scholarship: Three scholarships (statewide) of $500 each are awarded to upperclassmen majoring in Horticulture and/or Landscape Design at state-supported colleges and/or universities in Louisiana. Recipients of these scholarships must plan to pursue this major field as a vocation. Application forms may be obtained from the Head of the Department of Biological Sciences at Southeastern Louisiana University. The Major Kenneth E. Dyson Memorial Fund: The number of scholarships awarded varies. The fund was established by Mrs. Vesta Dyson Schilling in memory of her brother. Recipients must show superior academic accomplishment by compiling overall grade point averages of 3.2 or greater and be a senior enrolled in a pre-med program or an SLU graduate accepted as incoming first-year student at accredited medical schools. Students should apply to the Department of Biological Sciences. Recipients are chosen by a departmental committee on the basis of academic achievement, grade point average, and financial need. Since the award is given as a memorial to a brother killed in the service of his country, every effort will be made to choose recipients who will not only be medically competent, but who also reflect credit both in appearance and demeanor. Applicants may be required to be available for interviews. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Dr. Margo Davis Scholarship: Number of awards: One scholarship per year. Person or organization providing the assistance: Friends of Dr. Margo Davis, deceased faculty member in the Department of Mathematics. A student must (1) be a regularly enrolled mathematics major at Southeastern; (2) have an overall grade point average of at least 2.5; (3) have a grade point average in mathematics of at least 3.2; (4) have completed at least 21 semester hours of college mathematics; (5) have at least a semester’s work yet to be completed during the academic year. No student shall receive the scholarship more than once. Procedures for making application: there is no application procedure. All eligible students are considered. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Dr. Robert Carl Brown Endowed Scholarship: The SLU Mathematics Department Scholarship Committee will determine eligible students and solicit recommendations from their mathematics instructors. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist a full-time student majoring in Mathematics. A minimum of 30 semester hours is required in addition to the minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 at Southeastern. The scholarship also requires that the student be well rounded with participation in university and community activities. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Frank A. Micelli Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Person or organization providing the assistance: Family and friends of Frank Micelli. Student eligibility requirements: (1) must be a full-time beginning freshman; (2) must be graduate of any high school in Tangipahoa Parish; (3) must have a 3.0 grade point average on high school work; (4) must enter Southeastern in a program in the field of mathematics or an appropriate allied study; (5) must be of outstanding moral character and an achiever in extracurricular activities. Interested students should contact the Head of the Department of Mathematics. A special committee from the Department of Mathematics selects the recipient from the list of those candidates who have applied. The recipient must maintain a 3.0 grade point average to receive the scholarship during the second semester. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings.

88 D Vickers Memorial Honors Scholarship: An award of $500 per semester for one academic year, given to a full-time student who is registered for at least one Honors course and has an outstanding record of academic achievement (with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA). Recipients must be recommended by the Honors Coordinator. Application forms available in the Department of English. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. The Pursley Prize in Chemistry: One award annually in the amount of $100. Person or organization providing the assistance: Former students and colleagues of the late Professor R. Thomas Pursley. Applicants must (1) be chemistry majors with junior class standing; (2) have a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0; and (3) have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 for all credit earned in chemistry courses. Each year the recipient is selected from the group of eligible chemistry majors by a majority vote of the Chemistry faculty. Mark Dugopolski Sophomore Award: The SLU Mathematics Department Scholarship Committee will determine eligible students and solicit recommendations from their mathematics instructors. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist one or more full-time (spring semester) sophomores majoring in mathematics or mathematics education. A minimum of 30 semester hours earned at SLU prior to the spring semester of the award, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Students must have earned at least 13 semester hours in Math courses numbered 200 and above and complete Math 201 with a minimum GPA of 3.0. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Vonnie Borden Memorial Scholarship Fund: One scholarship awarded to a Communication major. To qualify a minimum 3.0 high school GPA, a minimum ACT score of 21, and maintaining a minimum college GPA of 3.0 and satisfactory participation in co-curricular/scholarly departmental activities, e.g., theater, forensics, etc. are required. Applications may be obtained by writing to the Department Head of Communication, SLU 451, Hammond, LA 70402. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Catha Lambert Endowment: One award to a resident of the 6th District majoring in Music. Student must have financial need and be enrolled full-time and have a GPA of 2.7 or better and be classified as a Junior or Senior. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Kenneth G. Holder Math Education Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: $200 per semester. This scholarship is awarded to a graduate from any public school in Tangipahoa Parish. The student must show a financial need, leadership abilities, be an entering freshman and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Michael Fanning Scholarship: An award of $500.00 is paid to an undergraduate student majoring in English, English Education, Journalism, or Liberal Arts Studies. The candidate must have at least a 3.5 GPA, be a full-time student during the fall semester in which the stipend is paid, have completed at least 30 hours at Southeastern, and be eligible to graduate within one school year. Application forms are available in the Department of English. John Coumes Memorial Award: An award of up to $500.00 is given annually to a student from a 200- or 300- level English literature class with a passion for literature to support purposeful study and/or travel. Students must be recommended by a teacher. Applicants will be required to submit a piece of writing which explains how they would spend their award monies in the pursuit of their passion for literature. Application forms are available in the Department of English. D Vickers Creative Writing Award. An award of $75.00 is made at the Annual Arts and Sciences Honors Convocation to a superior creative writing student. The student is chosen by the creative writing faculty in the Department of English. Community State Bank Agriculture Assistantships: Four Assistantships of $300 each are awarded each semester (normally to a freshman, a sophomore, a junior, and a senior). Applicants must be Agriculture majors with overall grade point averages of 2.5 or greater. Interested students should apply to the Head of the Department of Biological Sciences. Recipients are selected with consideration given to students’ academic records. Students receiving the Assistantships will work at the SLU Horticulture Center and/or in the Department of Biological Sciences for a maximum of eight semesters. Helen Entrikin: Students applying for this scholarship will be selected based on the following factors: quality of creative work, GPA, service to the department, service to the community, and financial need. Applicants must be juniors or seniors. Retention of award is based on maintenance of above stated criteria. Holly and Smith, Architects, Inc. Excellence in Visual Arts and Music: Graduates of high schools in Tangipahoa, St. Tammany and West Feliciana Parishes are eligible to apply for this award provided they meet the following criteria: minimum high school GPA of 3.0 and major in visual arts or music. The recipient will be required to continue to major in visual arts or music while maintaining at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA in order to retain this scholarship. Also, any recipient who majors in visual arts must leave a piece of his/her art at Southeastern Louisiana University and any recipient who majors in music must perform a concert during his/her senior year. Theodore G. “Teddy” Betz, Jr.: Students applying for this scholarship must meet the following criteria: full- time student status, completed 60 hours toward degree in industrial technology, and demonstrate financial need. Retention of this award depends on the maintenance of the stated criteria.

89 Jack W. Knight: Applicants must be chemistry majors and outstanding students. The award can be renewed if the recipient remains in chemistry as an outstanding student. E.P. and Mildred Kuhn Excellence in Liberal Arts: In order to be eligible to apply for this scholarship students must meet the following criteria: minimum high school GPA of 2.5, reside in Ponchatoula and major in liberal arts. This is a renewable scholarship. Tri-Parish Wild Turkey Chapter: Applicants will be considered based on the following: full-time student majoring in biological sciences, demonstrated financial need, beginning freshman must have a 3.0 or higher high school GPA, college students with 30 or more hours must have a 2.75 cumulative GPA. Special consideration will be given to residents of Livingston , Tangipahoa, and St. Helena Parishes. Awarded for up to 8 semesters as long as recipient maintains full time status as a biological sciences major and a 2.75 cumulative GPA. Marietta Schneider Excellence in Music: The selection criteria are as follows: undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or higher or graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, full-time student status, major in music, accept the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Schools of Music, and have a talent and passion for instrumental, piano, or vocal music with a potential for a distinguished career in the field of music. This award is renewable as long as above stated criteria is maintained. Mary C. Nelson: Available to music majors who are full time students. Applicants must have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate financial need. Graduates may be recipients of this award with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0.

COLLEGE OF BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIPS

Accounting Faculty and Alumni: The current and former Department of Accounting faculty members and Accounting-Program alumni of Southeastern Louisiana University have established this scholarship to assist a deserving accounting major. Applicants should meet the following criteria: minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, ACT score of at least 20, and participation in extracurricular activities. Retention criteria: minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and recommendation of the Departmental Scholarship Committee. Addie Lela Thompson Smith Memorial Scholarship: Applicants should meet the following criteria: graduate of Kentwood High School, accounting major full-time student. Retention criteria: minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, accounting major, full-time student. Althouse’s Kwik Kopy Printing: Students majoring in business are eligible to compete for this award if they have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and are full time students. Retention of this scholarship is based on the maintenance of a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and full time student status. Association of Government Accountants: Louisiana residents who are United States Citizens are eligible to apply for this scholarship award. The established criteria for those eligible to apply are as follows: cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, 12 or more accounting course hours completed, and be a full time student entering his/her junior year. Preference will be given to a Tangipahoa Parish resident. Charles Emery Cate Excellence in Business: Applicants for this scholarship award must meet the following criteria: business major, cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on all college coursework, completion of at least 30 hours of academic coursework at Southeastern, and active participation in University extracurricular activities. Retention is based upon the maintenance of the above listed criteria. Citizens National Bank: This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior, ranking in the upper half of his/her graduating class, who is planning to major in business and has an interest in banking. The recipient will be selected from a high school in Tangipahoa Parish or the eastern portion of Livingston Parish. Retention is based on the maintenance of a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. The Walter Drott Scholarship: Number of awards: One scholarship per semester, in the amount of $250. Person or organization providing the assistance: The sister of Mr. Drott, in his memory. Student eligibility requirements: High academic performance by a student majoring in the Department of Industrial Technology. Application should be made to the Head of the Department of Industrial Technology. Recipients are to be selected on the basis of high academic standing and good character. Richard and Mercedes Durham: In order to apply for this award students must meet the following criteria: cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher, intended major must be business, register as a full time student, demonstrate financial need, and be of good moral character. This scholarship will be granted for a maximum term of 8 semesters if the recipient maintains a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Byard Edwards MBA: Applicants for this scholarship are required to meet the following criteria: must be accepted into the MBA program at Southeastern Louisiana University, enrolled in graduate level coursework only, have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.25, and be a resident of the Florida Parishes. This award will be granted for a term of 4 semesters as long as the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.

90 Institute of Managerial Accountants (IMA) Scholarship: The Baton Rouge chapter of IMA provides funding for this scholarship to assist a deserving accounting major. Applicants should meet the following criteria: interest in career in managerial accounting, one semester remaining before graduation (excluding summer semester), and be active student member of Southeastern’s chapter of IMA. Joe and Kay Iverstine Memorial Scholarship: The scholarship is awarded to a student with junior or senior Business major. Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and not be receiving any other scholarships from College of Business, Board of Trustees, or TH Harris Foundation. The number of scholarships and amount of each is determined by the amount of trust earnings or by the individuals providing the scholarship. The Charles Wesley Merritt Scholarship: Three types of scholarships are awarded: Recruiting Freshmen, Graduating Seniors, and International study. The student must be enrolled as a full-time student majoring in Business on the graduate or undergraduate level. An undergraduate student must have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 and a graduate student must have an overall grade point average of at least 3.5. Students should apply to the Dean of the College of Business. The amount of each scholarship varies and is contingent upon available funds determined specifically by the amount of earning from the Trust Fund. Audrey and Nicholas Tournillon: Applicants for this scholarship are required to meet the following criteria: married student, enrolled in the MBA program with a concentration in and/or economics, and have achieved a 2.7 or higher cumulative GPA on undergraduate coursework. Award will be given for up to 4 semesters as long as the recipient makes satisfactory progress toward graduation. Hill-Krause: Applicants for this scholarship must be business majors who have demonstrated academic excellence and have evidence of financial need. This award may be renewed at the discretion of the selection committee. Hood Automotive: Persons applying for this award must meet the following criteria: business major, full time student status and good moral character. Beginning freshmen must have a cumulative high school GPA 3.0 or higher. Continuing students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on all coursework completed. The Hood Automotive Scholarship will be awarded for up to 8 semesters provided the recipient continues to major in business and maintains of cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Northshore Chapter, Society of Louisiana CPAs Scholarship: The Northshore Chapter of the Louisiana Society of CPAs provides funding for this scholarship to assist a deserving accounting major. Applicants should meet the following criteria; full-time accounting major, minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need in written letter of application, and preferably (not required) be a resident of St. Tammany, Washington, Tangipahoa, or St. Helena parishes. Retention criteria: continue to meet the criteria outlined above. Charles and Patricia O’Drobinak: Juniors and seniors, with at least one semester of coursework remaining before graduation, may apply for this award provided they meet the following criteria: an accounting major, 3.25 GPA in college coursework, and active participation in University extracurricular activities. Jules Prokop Endowed Presidential-Level: The criteria for this award follows: accounting major, minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.2 or minimum collegiate GPA of 2.75 and a minimum ACT score of 22. This award will be granted for up to 8 semesters as long as the recipient maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above. SLU Student Scholarship Fund: Number of awards: Approximately three per year. The exact amount of the scholarship will vary and will be based on the earnings of the fund. Applicants must be undergraduate students majoring in the College of Business. They must have a 3.5 cumulative and major average and must have completed 45 semester hours of credit. Applications will be solicited during the spring semester. The College of Business Scholarship Committee will select the recipients from eligible applicants. R. Norval Garrett Scholarship: The scholarship has a total value of $1,000.00 and is awarded to one student annually by the Hammond Kiwanis Club in memory of Dr. R. Norval Garrett, a charter member of the Hammond Kiwanis Club and former Dean, College of Business. Applicants must be majoring in a business curriculum, have attained junior (60 hours) standing, and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better. Each applicant must submit a type written letter outlining his/her financial need and their involvement with the university community. The applicant must be a member of two campus organizations or one campus and one community organization (other than religious affiliations). The applicant must attach a letter of recommendation from a professor and from the department head of the academic department in which the applicant is majoring. First Guaranty Bank Assistantship: Assistantships are awarded at the present time. It is anticipated that the number will increase, as funds are available. Applicants must (1) be residents of Tangipahoa Parish; (2) majoring in business; and (3) have at least a 2.5 overall average. Applicants should complete an application from which can be secured from the Dean of the College of Business. Amount of scholarship: $500 per semester. The student must be a female majoring in Business with a junior standing. Calmes Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: Two. Amount of award: $400 per student per semester. The scholarship is awarded to a student in the College of Business majoring in Marketing. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Julien A. and Doris Evelyn Waller Tillery Endowment Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: Based on funds available from interest. The students must be enrolled full time at Southeastern Louisiana University, have evidence of financial need, be a beginning freshman majoring in business with a 3.0 or higher high school GPA, and be of the highest moral character and behavior. Applications may be obtained from the College of Business. Richard and Glory Sharp Scholarship: Number of awards: Three. Student must represent Southeastern Louisiana University in intercollegiate sports and be majoring in the College of Business. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. The Neill Family Company: The selection criteria are as follows: minimum high school GPA of 3.5 or higher, graduate of a Florida Parishes high school, and major in computer science. Award will be renewed for up to 8 semesters if recipient continues to major in computer science and maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Turner Industries, LTD. Scholarship Fund: Turner Industries, Ltd. has made a contribution to the Southeastern Louisiana University Development Foundation to establish a scholarship to aid and assist a full-time, first year student pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in Industrial Technology with a concentration in Occupational Health and Safety. The recipient must be a full-time student with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average at the university level. First-year students shall make application and be selected by representatives from the Department of Industrial Technology. The representatives will recommend a maximum of three applicants to Turner Industries, Ltd., who will then choose the recipient. The Francis C. St. Blanc Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One scholarship each spring semester, in the amount of $500. Monies provided by interest from an established scholarship fund in honor of Mr. Francis C. St. Blanc. Student eligibility requirements: full-time student with at least 60 hours toward a degree in Industrial Technology, 2.5 or better overall grade point average, financial need, and preference is to be given to any student pursuing a degree in drafting. Utsey, Jr. Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One scholarship each year, awarded semi-annually; the total amount to be 80% of the accrued interest on an established fund in honor of Mr. Thomas A. Utsey, Jr. Student eligibility requirements: full-time student in Industrial Technology, 2.5 or better overall grade point average, and financial need. Preference will be given to a student pursuing a private pilot’s license or the upgrading of a license. Sarah Dosher Waters Endowed Scholarship: Applicants should meet the following criteria: minimum 2.5 GPA and Accounting major. Wegmann Dazet & Company Accounting Scholarship: The Wegmann Dazet & Co. Professional Corporation of CPAs provides funding for this scholarship to provide financial support for an outstanding accounting major. Applicants should meet the following criteria: accounting major, junior or senior standing (preferably junior or first semester senior), minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA in Accounting and overall. Preference to students that have an interest in pursuing a career in the public-accounting profession, that participate in extracurricular activities, and that demonstrate financial need.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Meriel’s Legacy Scholarship: The Meriel’s Legacy Scholarship is a $1,000 per semester award presented to a minority student majoring in elementary education at Southeastern Louisiana University, with a demonstrated interest in developmental or educational psychology. To apply, the student must be a minority student majoring in Elementary Education with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, be a full-time student with at least 30 hours completed in the program, having completed at least 3 hours beyond the core curriculum in developmental or educational

Submit application form with the following: copy of transcript, copy of most recent IRS income tax return to demonstrate financial need (may outweigh GPA), three letters of recommendation, a short (1-2 typed pages) essay on the topic: How does an understanding of child development impact teaching practices? The recipient of the scholarship may retain the scholarship through graduation if the student continues to meet the selection criteria and maintains a 3.0 GPA. Applications are available in the office of the Department of Teacher Education (SLU 749, Hammond, LA 70402). The deadline for the application to be received by the Department of Teacher Education is April 1. The Ginger Fortenberry Ford, Homemaker, Scholarship: Number of awards: One. The student must be majoring in Family and Consumer Science with priority given to a student choosing the concentration area of Vocational Family and Consumer Science Education. The scholarship is provided through a bequest from Judge Leon Ford, III and his family in memory of his wife. The award will go to a beginning freshman on the basis of economic need, U.S. citizen and Louisiana or Mississippi resident, GPA of 2.5 or higher, participation in high school activities, good character, no record of disciplinary problems and the student must be eligible for admission to SLU. Application for the scholarship must be submitted to the Family and Consumer Sciences faculty through the applicant’s high school principal by April 1. The application shall consist of a high school transcript and letters from the student, the principal and one high school teacher. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Minnie Bond Scholarship: Number of awards: One award is given in the amount of $100. Person or organization providing the assistance: Beta Gamma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Student must be a junior from Livingston Parish majoring in Education. Recipients are chosen by the Beta Gamma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Tangipahoa Parish Retired Teachers’ Association Scholarship: Number of awards: One grant in the amount of $150. Person or organization providing the assistance: Tangipahoa Parish Retired Teachers’ Association. Recipients must be one of the top five juniors in the College of Education. The award will be used during the Fall registration of the Senior year. Recipients will be selected by a committee composed of the Dean of the College of Education, the head of the Teachers’ Training program, one additional faculty member from the College of Education, and two members of the Tangipahoa Parish Retired Teachers’ Association. Student eligibility requirements: (1) must be a freshman majoring in Special Education; (2) must maintain an overall grade point average of 2.5 or better each semester; (3) must be enrolled as a full-time student. These scholarships are presented to junior and senior students majoring in Special Education (preferably with an emphasis on Retardation). Criteria for selection of recipients of scholarships: Recipients shall be Louisiana residents selected by the Head of the Department of Special Education and/or a faculty committee appointed by the Department Head, based upon the highest scholastic achievement of a 3.0 or better average. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Paul Douglas Scholarship: Amount of award $2,500 per semester. Applicants must be Education majors who are graduates of a Louisiana public or approved private high school. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA for the last seven semesters in high school, graduate in the top 10% of their high school class and have an ACT Composite score of 22 or a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale in college. This scholarship is set up as a loan with principal and interest forgiven if the recipient teaches full-time in a public or other non-profit institution. Lillard Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences: Number of awards: Three each year. The scholarship is provided through a bequest from Mr. Purser Lillard, in memory of his wife. Student eligibility requirements: Award 1: junior family and consumer sciences major with highest grade point average. Award 2: junior family and consumer sciences major with second highest grade point average. Award 3: sophomore family and consumer sciences major with highest grade point average. In addition to the academic requirements, recipients must not be on disciplinary probation. Procedures for making application: No applications are necessary as awards are based on grade point average. Recipients are selected in accordance with the eligibility criteria. If two students have the same grade point average, the student who, in the opinion of the Family and Consumer Sciences faculty, has the greater leadership ability and professional potential will be awarded the scholarship. The amounts for each of the annual awards are determined by the interest received on the trust fund. Minority Male Scholars in Education: Amount of award $1,000 per semester. Applicants must be minority male education majors who are graduates of a Louisiana public or approved private high school. High school graduates must have a minimum ACT score of 22 or a minimum ACT score of 20 with a GPA of at least 3.0. College

Final award is made by the College of Education. Alice R. Douglas Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of Award: $500 per semester. The scholarship is funded to a student enrolled full-time with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5. The student must be a resident of East Baton Rouge Parish. Tangipahoa Parish Teachers Credit Union: Number of awards: Two. Amount of award: $500 per semester. This scholarship is funded by the Tangipahoa Parish Teachers’ Credit Union. The student must be an education major. Alan Keating Memorial Scholarship: $500 awarded to the outstanding graduating senior in Music Education, as selected by the faculty of the Department of Music. The award is donated by the family of the late Alan Keating, Assistant Professor of Music in the Department of Music, 1993-1996. Deborah Rae Morris Endowed Scholarship in Special Education: Number of awards: One scholarship in the amount of $550 per semester. This scholarship was established by Dr. Elizabeth D. Evans and her husband, Dr. William T. House, in memory of her sister and devoted parents, Ray and Rowena Morris. Student must be enrolled full-time in Special Education and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. Junior standing is preferred, but not required. Applications may be obtained in the Special Education Department. Noel and Essie Bickham: In order to be eligible to apply for this award, students must be education majors who meet the following criteria: full-time student status, demonstrate financial need, and have graduated from high school in good standing. To maintain this scholarship, students must continue to major in education, remain full- time, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Bickham Inc.-Edgar Cayce Foundation Research Award: Students majoring in counseling education will be able to compete for this award. The award will be based on the evaluation of research papers written in a counseling class. The authors of the three highest scoring papers will receive scholarships. Enos F. “Jake” Bailey Scholarship: In memory of Enos F. Bailey Sr. and Bailey Hughes. Awarded to a full time student who graduated from a high school in Tangipahoa Parish and is majoring in Education. The student must have a 2.5 GPA or better.

North Oaks Medical Center Scholarship: Eight scholarships in the amount of $500 each are awarded each semester. Applicants must be full-time students in the School of Nursing who have evidence of financial need and good academic achievement. Students may apply by writing a letter to the Dean of the School of Nursing requesting that they be considered for a scholarship. The applications are reviewed by the School of Nursing Scholarship Committee. The number of scholarships and amount of each is determined by the amount of trust earnings or by the individuals providing the scholarship. Harvey Theriot, Jr.: Students who are majoring in Kinesiology are eligible to apply for this award as long as they meet the following criteria: demonstrate financial need, full-time status, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. This award is renewable as long as the recipient continues to meet the above stated criteria. Max Clardy Speech Pathology Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount: $300 per semester. This scholarship is awarded through the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders to a graduate student majoring in the field of speech-lanauage pathology with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and classified as a full-time student. The student must be of high moral character and possess strong Christian beliefs. Arthur and Esther deVries Scholarship: Arthur and Esther deVries made this award possible through cash donations. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. It will be awarded each semester to undergraduate or graduate students. Applicants must be at least junior level and have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students: This is a federal scholarship awarded annually. Students must have applied for financial aid and show an unmet need. Athletic Scholarships: Athletic scholarships are available in the following sports: men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, men’s golf, baseball, women’s softball, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s cross country/track and field. These scholarships are awarded by the Athletic Director upon the recommendation of the coach of that particular sport in which the student participates. All such awards are made in accordance with the current rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Board of Trustees. Cheerleader Scholarships: Each Spring at least twelve cheerleaders and one mascot are selected on a tryout basis. The students are to perform for sports activities for this University. A partial tuition scholarship is awarded to full-time students who are selected for the Fall and Spring semesters. A “C” average must be maintained for the scholarship. National Guard Exemption: Award amount covers $950 of total tuition for a full-time student in Fall and Spring semesters, and the base tuition amount for the Summer session. When a student becomes a member of the Louisiana Army or Air National Guard, the guard member completes a Unit STEP Request at his/her unit prior to the application deadline. Louisiana Rehabilitation Services: This is a joint Federal-State Agency which provides assistance to students who are physically or mentally handicapped in order to help them to become gainfully employed. Assistance in college training can be provided as part of the student’s rehabilitation. Veterans Affairs: Southeastern Louisiana University maintains an Office of Veterans Affairs. Eligible veterans are entitled to benefits that are reflected in the amount of military time served, number of dependents, type of discharge, and many other factors. Veterans who are interested in claiming benefits under the G.I. Bill of Rights should contact the Office of Veterans Affairs for additional information. The office has on file pertinent forms the veteran will need to apply for benefits. The Veterans Affairs Officer is available for counseling and consultation. Prompt action on eligibility information is usually assured the veteran if he or she will report to the Veterans Affairs Office sixty days prior to the semester in which he or she wishes to enroll as a student at Southeastern. Army ROTC Program: Southeastern Louisiana University has a cross enrollment agreement with Louisiana State University. Graduate Assistantships: A limited number of Graduate Assistantships are available to qualified graduate students and to students enrolled in the Alternate Certification Program. Qualified graduate students may also be eligible for a limited number of graduate teaching fellowships. Graduate Assistants are appointed in accordance with the University of Louisiana System, Department of Civil Service, and SLU policies. Newman Memorial Scholarship and The Gregory Holyne Newman Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One award from each fund; pays one year’s tuition. Womack, Jr. Scholarship: One award is given, the amount to be determined by the trust fund earnings. Person or organization providing the assistance: Family, relatives and friends of the late Tommy C. Womack. Student eligibility requirements: (1) student must be a graduate of a Florida Parish High School; (2) student must have a grade point average of 2.5; (3) must have economic need. Criteria for selecting recipients; (1) student must make an overall grade point average of 2.5 or better each semester; (2) student must be of good moral character; (3) student must not be on probation; (4) Honors Program Office accepts applications; Honors Committee selects the recipient. United Daughters of the Confederacy: The number of awards varies. All applicants must be lineal descendants of worthy Confederates or collateral descendants who are members of the Children of the

97 Confederacy or of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. They must also be endorsed by the President of the Division and by the Division Director of Education. This award covers fees for tuition, books, labs, etc. up to $750 a year. This award does not cover room and board. Wal-Mart Foundation Scholarship: Number of awards: One from each community in which a Wal-Mart store is located. Award is for $1,000 payable at $500 per semester for two semesters. Recipient must be a high school senior and will be selected by a committee appointed by the Wal-Mart Manager in each community. Criteria for selection include: High school grade point average, class rank, extracurricular activities, and financial need. Applicants should contact their high school guidance counselor. B. Stern Scholarship: Number of awards: One is given per semester for $250. Student eligibility requirements: (1) the recipient must enroll at Southeastern and register for and complete a minimum of 15 hours each semester; (2) must earn a grade point average of 3.0 or better each semester; (3) if attending summer school, recipient must earn a 3.0 in each class scheduled. Criteria for selecting recipients: (1) recipient must be a graduate of Amite High School; (2) the principal of Amite High School selects the recipient. George “Buck” Mullins Memorial Scholarship: One scholarship is awarded each year in the amount of $300 per semester. Student must have at least a 2.5 grade point average and be a resident of St. John the Baptist Parish. Frances Robertson Fortenberry Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One, in the amount of $100 per semester. Mr. Emmett L. Fortenberry established this award in honor of his late wife, Frances. Any student pursuing a career in the Ministry or any phase of religious education is eligible. Applications for this award can be made in the Student Financial Aid Office. McDonald’s Scholarship Program: Any full-time undergraduate student that has been employed 6 months prior to the beginning of the semester. Student eligibility requirements: (1) Must maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA; (2) Must maintain a 28-34 score on job performance reviews; (3) Must work a minimum of 20 hours per week for the semester. Applicants should contact their supervisor at the main office. Chick-Fil-A Scholarship: One award in the amount of $1,000. To be considered for this scholarship: 1) the student must be currently enrolled in a high school or college 2) currently employed with a Chick-Fil-A Food Operation 3) average twenty working hours per week during a consecutive two year period 4) attend a two or four- year accredited college or university 5) apply for scholarship within one year of meeting the scholarship requirements. Blossman Memorial Scholarship: One scholarship is awarded per semester in the amount of $1,000 to a Covington/Mandeville resident student with a 2.0 or better GPA and showing financial need. Baton Rouge Area Scholarship: The number of scholarships varies. Amount of the award is $600 per student. Student must be full-time and from the Baton Rouge area and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. City Club of Hammond: Number of awards: Two scholarships per semester in the amount of $500 each to a full-time student who is a resident of Tangipahoa Parish. Student must have earned more than 30 semester hours at SLU. This scholarship is funded by the City Club of Hammond. Terri Cropper Dembeck Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: $2,100. The student must be a graduate of Belle Chasse High School, attending SLU in the Fall of the year of graduation. Student must submit a visionary essay on academic and long-term life goals. Guy C. Garrison Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Awarded to a student with a high school GPA of 3.0 and a composite ACT score of 24. This scholarship is through the Honors Program and the student must be enrolled full-time and maintain active status in that program. The student must maintain a GPA of 3.25 or better. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Hancock Bank Corporate Dollars for Scholars Scholarship: This scholarship is part of the Corporate Dollars for Scholars program and is funded by Hancock Bank. Number of awards: One. Amount of award: $1,000 per semester. Student must have financial need and a minimum 3.0 GPA and have community service involvement and a history of leadership. Hibernia National Bank Minority Youth Scholarship: This scholarship is funded by Hibernia National Bank for two minority students from St. Tammany Parish. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled full-time. The student must show leadership qualities and community service involvement. The amount of the scholarship is $750.00 per semester. Independence Lion’s Club Scholarship: Number of awards: Two. Amount of award: $500.00. This scholarship is funded by the Independence Lion’s Club of Independence, LA. It is awarded to a student with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or better. Student must be an entering freshman who is involved in the community. Stella M. Kinney Scholarship: Number of awards: One. This scholarship is provided as financial assistance to an active member of the SLU Student Foundation. The student must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and must demonstrate leadership through active involvement in SLU Student Foundation. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Hubie Leader Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: $250.00. The scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who graduated from Maurepas High School with a 3.0 GPA and who demonstrates leadership qualities and participates in varsity athletics. The student must maintain an overall 2.5 GPA. Margaret Lil Abels Maurin Scholarship: The scholarship was funded by the late Robert A. Maurin, Jr. in honor of his wife. The student must prove financial need, be of the highest moral character, have an ambition and genuine desire to complete a college education, and must have finished high school with a 2.5 or better GPA. The student must be from Livingston or Tangipahoa Parish. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Joe Mauroner Scholarship Fund: This scholarship was funded by the late Joe Mauroner, a local businessman. The student must be a resident of Tangipahoa Parish showing financial need and be of high moral character. The student must show ambition and have finished high school with a 2.5 GPA or better. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Professor Louis Mayfield and Mildred Mayfield Endowment Award: The number of awards varies. Students are entering freshmen from Tangipahoa or St. Tammany Parishes who are enrolled full-time. The student must maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Elder J.M. and Melissa Thomas Stuart Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: $250.00 per semester. The student must be of the Baptist faith and from Washington Parish. The student must have maintained a GPA of 2.75 or above in high school and maintain a 2.5 GPA in college. The student must be enrolled full-time. Preference will be given to a student who is a member of or attends Pine Missionary Baptist church where Mr. Stuart pastored for 51 years. Ira S. Tate Scholarship Fund: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: $800.00 per semester. The student must reside in Baton Rouge. The recipient must be an adoptive child abandoned by his/her adoptive parents. Preference will be given to students with a focused career plan, particularly in the helping professions such as teaching, nursing, etc. Anthony Jude Vergona Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Pete Wren Memorial Scholarship: The scholarship is based on student need and availability of funds. The student must be a direct heir of O.P. “Pete” Wren and be in good standing with SLU. Nancy Kathryn O’Neil Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is to assist a student majoring in pre-dentistry, medicine, or veterinary medicine. The student must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be of full time status. The student must also reside in the Northshore area to include St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes. Joy Jackson Memorial Endowment: One award is given, the amount to be determined by the endowment earnings. The purpose is to award financial assistance to a senior majoring in Humanities with a demonstrated interest in the Florida Parishes region. Student eligibility requirements are: student must have earned 90 or more hours (senior status), have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or greater, be majoring in Humanities, and be full- time status. Tangipahoa Home Builders Association Scholarship: This scholarship is funded by the Tangipahoa Home Builders Association. Each student will be awarded $1,000 for the Fall semester. The student must be full time at Southeastern Louisiana University; have a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA (for financial need based award); minimum cumulative 3.5 GPA (for scholastic based award); submit a one page word essay discussing your career plans and how the scholarship will benefit you. John J. Faught Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One in the amount of $250.00. Student must be full time, enrolled in the College of Business, be a student athlete with strong preference given to baseball and have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. Jim Barker (Mr. B’s) Memorial Scholarship: The scholarship is awarded $500.00 for the Fall semester. Sherman Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is to provide assistance to a pre-med student of senior status (minimum 85 hours) who is in the process of applying for medical school. Sarah Dosher Waters: The scholarship is to provide assistance to a student majoring in accounting. The amount of the award will depend on interest earned. The student must be a graduate of a Louisiana High School, currently a resident of Louisiana, be a full-time student of junior or senior status majoring in accounting and have a minimum GPA of 2.50 cumulative. Richard and Glory Sharp Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: $200 per semester. Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a deserving student who possesses leadership skills and academic ability. The student must be within 30 hours of graduation, have a minimum GPA of 2.65, exhibit good citizenship, sportsmanship, and leadership traits must have lettered for two years in Varsity competition, and participated in extracurricular activities for the university. Students should contact the Athletic Director’s office for applications. Hans Schneider Scholarship for Environmental Preservation: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: $500 per semester. Purpose: The Hammond Tree Foundation, Inc. offers this scholarship to a student who has a strong interest in urban forestry, forest management, environmental science, urban eco-system management, biological science, or other related fields of environmental concern. The student must have a minimum of 12 hours in 300 level or higher classes, be enrolled full time as a junior, senior, or graduate student at Southeastern Louisiana University, illustrate a willingness to participate in community activities related to environmental concerns, and/or intern with the Hammond Tree Foundation, Inc., and have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Applications will be available through the University department heads. Hammond Police Officers Union, Local 345 Scholarship: Number of awards: Two, one male and one female. Amount of award: $1000 per semester for the fall semester. The student must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA, demonstrated academic merit and financial need, be a graduate from any Tangipahoa Parish high school, be a current junior in the Criminal Justice program at Southeastern. Amount of award: $500 for the fall semester following graduation from high school. This is a one-time award. The student must show a strong desire to complete their college education, be enrolled full-time at Southeastern, have graduated with a 3.0 or better average from either Hammond High or St. Thomas Aquinas, be active in high school extracurricular activities, be a well rounded student and show leadership qualities. Applications may be obtained at either Hammond High or St. Thomas Aquinas. Northshore Chapter, Society of Louisiana CPA Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: $500 per semester. The student must be enrolled full-time at Southeastern, be an accounting major, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, and demonstrate financial need through a written letter of application. 100 State Farm Insurance Endowment Scholarship: Number of awards: Two. Amount of award: Based on interest earned. The student must be enrolled full-time at Southeastern, must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.6 in college work with a minimum of 30 hours earned, should exhibit good citizenship and sportsmanship traits. Student must represent Southeastern in intercollegiate athletics or be within 24 hours of graduation, after completing four years of eligibility. There will be one female student athlete and one male student athlete chosen. Applications may be obtained from the Athletic Department. Hans Schneider Excellence in Music Endowed Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: Based on the earnings from the endowment. The student must be enrolled full-time at Southeastern, have graduated from high school or the international equivalent with a 3.0 or better GPA. Graduate students may be recipients of this scholarship with an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better. The undergraduate student should be active in high school extracurricular activities, be talented in and have a passion for instrumental piano, or vocal music with potential for a distinguished career in the field of music. Ponchatoula Lions Club Excellence in Education Scholarship: Number of award: One. Amount of award: $1000 per semester. The student must be enrolled full-time at Southeastern, graduated with a minimum 3.0 GPA from Ponchatoula High School, be active in extracurricular activities and be a well-rounded student, and demonstrate a financial need. Financial need will have a slightly greater priority than his or her academic achievement in high school. Applications may be obtained from Ponchatoula High School. Addie Lela Thompson Smith Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: $1000 per semester. The student must be a graduating senior from Kentwood High School who intends to major in accounting at Southeastern. The recipient must continue to major in accounting and must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or better. Charles and Patricia O’Drobinak Excellence in Accounting Endowed Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: Based on earnings of endowment. The student must have achieved a 3.25 overall GPA in his or her college work. The student must be a junior or senior with at least one semester of course work remaining before graduation. The student must be an accounting major. Applications may be obtained in the Accounting Department. SLU Alumni Scholarship: Number of awards: Two. Amount of award: $500.00. Applicant must be enrolled at SLU at full time status as a junior with a minimum of 60 hours earned. Student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. Special consideration will be given to a child of a Southeastern graduate or a child of a former student who attended for at least 2 semesters. The student must be involved in a recognized campus organization. Special consideration may be given to student who has no financial aid. The student must submit a one page written essay describing the reason he or she is applying for this scholarship. The student may retain the scholarship for up to 4 semesters as long as all criteria continue to be met. Christin and Claire Cosby Memorial: This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman who graduated from Live Oak High School in Watson, LA. The criteria for those eligible to apply is as follows: financial need and significant participation in extracurricular activities. To retain this award, the recipient must maintain a 2.8 or higher cumulative GPA and full time student status. Anne M. Ferguson: The selection criteria for this scholarship is as follows: 2.5 or higher high school GPA, demonstrated financial need, good moral character, relative of Anne M. Ferguson family or a dependent of a Southeastern Louisiana University employee and full time student status. Recipients of this award may keep it for up to 8 semesters provided they maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Judge Sheldon Fernandez: This scholarship award is available to any full time student who is a resident of the 24th Judicial District, participates in extracurricular activities, acquired a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and is of good moral character. In order to retain this award the student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher. Claude E. Fowler, Jr. Memorial: The criteria for this award is as follows: resident of Tangipahoa Parish, full time student status and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. If recipient maintains a 2.5 GPA and remains full time, the award will be renewed. Lucius McGehee: Selection of recipients of this award will be made based on the following eligibility requirements: minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 for beginning freshmen or a minimum cumulative 2.5 collegiate GPA for continuing students, resident of Tangipahoa Parish, full time status and demonstrate a strong desire to continue education. Tom Ruffin Family: Applications for this scholarship award are available to all classifications and majors who meet the eligibility requirements of full time status and minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Financial need will be considered. This scholarship is eligible for renewal as long as the recipient maintains the above stated eligibility requirements. John Carroll Zewe Memorial: Persons meeting the listed eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply: incoming freshman, plan to enroll as a full-time student, minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.5, and Hammond High School graduate. Financial need will be considered. This is a one-year scholarship that is not renewable.

101 Student Foundation Leadership: Persons interested in applying for this award must meet the following requirements: full-time student status, completed 30 or more semester hours, and be involved in extracurricular activities. Leaders Entering Another Dimension (LEAD): Applicants must attend LEAD retreat and show demonstrated leadership ability. Additional requirements are financial need and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3 or above. Mater Dolorosa Kaycee Ladies Auxiliary: Anyone applying for this award must be a graduate of a Tangipahoa Parish high school and be a Catholic person of good moral character. Additional requirements are that the applicant be a member of Mater Dolorosa Knights of Columbus Council 5627 (or have father or grandfather in good standing or have a deceased father formerly in the Council) or applicant must have financial need. Beginning freshmen must have a minimum 3.0 high school GPA and college students must have a minimum collegiate GPA of 3.0 or higher. Retention criteria is that the recipient must remain a Catholic of good moral character and have full-time student status through the Fall semester with a cumulative semester GPA of 3.0. Charles Redman Study Abroad: In order to be eligible to apply for this award, students must: be undergraduates who have completed at least 54 credit hours or graduates who have completed 9 or more hours, return to Southeastern for at least one semester after summer abroad study, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, be a resident of the Florida Parishes, and be of high moral character. Robin Roberts: Applicants for this scholarship award must represent Southeastern Louisiana University in intercollegiate sports and have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.5. Southeastern Athletic Memorial: The criteria for this award are as follows: minimum cumulative GPA of 2.4, must be within 30 hours of graduation, must have exhausted athletic eligibility, and must have lettered 2 years in a varsity sport. Additional requirements are that the applicant should exhibit good citizenship, sportsmanship, and leadership traits. Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation: Applicants for this award can be beginning freshmen or currently enrolled undergraduate students. At the time of selection, the student must have a 3.0 high school GPA (if beginning freshman) or 3.0 collegiate GPA (if currently enrolled at Southeastern). Applicants must be residents of Tangipahoa, St. Tammany, Livingston or Washington Parishes and have high moral character. Retention requirements are that the recipient maintains a 2.8 cumulative GPA and a 2.5 semester GPA. The Dorothy McIntyre Faust Endowed Scholarship: Amount of award is $225 per semester. Applicants must be full time students who have graduated from either a Livingston or Tangipahoa Parish high school with a 2.50 or higher grade point average or a 2.00 overall college grade point average. The student may keep this scholarship for eight semesters provided he or she meets all the criteria and maintains a 2.00 overall grade point average. This scholarship is established by her husband, Mr. William Bryant Faust, Jr. along with the children of Dorothy McIntyre Faust (Mr. And Mrs. William Brant Faust III, Mr. And Mrs. John M. Faust, Mr. And Mrs. Thomas L. Faust, Sr., and Mr. And Mrs. Richard M. Faust), grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, and friends.

VETERANS SERVICES

Students seeking or receiving benefits through the Veterans Administration should conduct their official business in these matters with the Office of Veterans Services. The following guidelines are set up so that the veteran will be in compliance with Veterans Administration regulations and make satisfactory progress toward a degree or certification. 1. The student veteran must comply with and meet all standards as set forth within the University catalogue. 2. No veteran will be considered to have made satisfactory progress when he fails or resigns from all subjects undertaken when enrolled in two or more subjects. V.A. benefits are not authorized unless satisfactory progress is maintained for the entire semester. 3. A student may drop all semester hours over twelve (12) without a change in his V.A. status. 4. A student veteran who takes a course or courses (unless a creditable elective) that does not count toward the chosen degree is not considered to be making progress. Each veteran and eligible person has the following responsibilities: 1. Read and understand the standards relating to achievement, progress and conduct published by Southeastern Louisiana University that must be met and maintained in order to continue to receive V.A. benefits. 2. Notify University officials and the Veterans Services Office immediately when he/she ceases to attend a class. 3. Not expect payment for taking courses that are not part of the approved curriculum.
