This will help greet all of the players, sponsors, coaches, media, and fans that join us in Grand Rapids for the tournament. Dear Players, Coaches, Officials, Staff, , Friends and Fans: It is a pleasure to welcome one and all to a return engagement of the US Open in Grand Rapids, Michigan! Our return to Grand Rapids in 2014 is based upon the very positive experiences we had with previous events here in 2010 and 2012. USATT Hall of Fame members, Dell and Connie Sweeris, have once again assembled a wonderfully energetic Local Organizing Committee (LOC) dedicated to making this year’s event a memorable one for the athletes, coaches, officials and family members. The LOC have worked for over a year to secure sponsors for the US Open. With their help, we can announce prize money of $65,000. The Sweeris family are not alone in their efforts - we also need to thank the West Michigan Sports Commission, the Amway Hotel Collection, DeVos fly the friendly skies Place Convention Center, and a host of valued contributing members of the LOC! We want to thank our USATT National Sponsors, JOOLA for being the Official Tables and National Team Apparel sponsors for USATT and thank Book now NITTAKU / PADDLE PALACE for being the Official Ball Sponsor of USATT. We will feature www.united.com/usoc our National Sponsors and LOC sponsors in this program and in the live streaming efforts that (promotion code: ZNYP740386) are planned. Speaking of live streaming, we are very fortunate to have the expertise of David Del Vecchio to manage the task of video streaming the event for the members. Through the combined efforts of NATT, the LOC and USATT we are pushing our horizon reach beyond expectations for our US Open in 2014. On behalf of your Board of Directors and National Staff we wish everyone a safe and successful experience in Grand Rapids and a special thank YOU for your participation! 10 TABLE TENNIS Summer Issue/June 2014 • usatt.org/MAGAZINE 11 2014 Annual Giving Campaign CLICK HERE to give to the 2014 Annual Fund The 2013 Annual Giving Campaign 30k raised $39,309 from USATT and $35,000 matching funds from the USOC $ 8,189 $ 8,189 Challenge Grants program. Minsk 2019 2nd European Games Friday 28th June – Quotes of the Day by Milica Nikolic ETTU Press Officer 10.00 am: Women’s Team Semi-Final – Nina Mittelham and Han Ying (Germany) GERMANY 3-2 POLAND Shan Xiaona replaced the injured Petrissa Solja in the German team. Nina Mittelham and Shan Xiaona lost to Natalia Bajor and Natalia Partyka (11-8, 11-2, 14-12). Han Ying beat Li Qian (11-9, 11-7, 11-3), Shan Xiaona lost to Natalia Partyka (11-5, 11-8, 5-11, 11-4), before Han Ying accounted for Natalia Bajor (11-2, 11-6, 11-8) and Nina Mittelham overcame Li Qian (4-11, 11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9). “For the doubles, I have not had much many chances to partner Shan, so it was very difficult for us. It was also her first match here and it did not end up well for us. Luckily, Han played two amazing matches. She won quite easy and it opened the door for us. I am happy I seized the opportunity that has been given to me.” Nina Mittelham In the vital fifth match of the fixture Nina Mittelham recovered from 6-9 down, winning five points in a row to secure victory. “I did not think about the fact she is the European champion. What really was on my mind is the thought that I can play well against a player with the defensive style of play. I was shaking before the match but after it started I felt well; I felt the ball and my confidence rose.
