GETTING THEM TO GIVE A DAMN How to Get Your Front Line to Care about Your Bottom Line By Eric Chester Table of Contents Acknowledgments The insights and ideas in the pages that follow have come from my ezperience of working with young people all of my professional life. I am forever grateful for the opportunities I have been given to speak for them but confess that I have learned more from them than they have from me. Since I founded Generation Why, Inc. in 1997, I have worked with some amazing individuals and with some truly great companies and organizations. While there are too many to list, I m indebted to each of them. Special thanks to my sister and research assistant Christie Chester; my business mentor Mark Sanborn; my editor Barbara McNichol; my colleague TJ Schier; my visibility coach David Avrin; contributors Tawnya Lassiter, Karen LaFonda and Lee McCroskey; and to the great team at Dearborn Trade Publishing. A very special thanks to my children for allowing me to learn through their experiences and to tell their stories, and to my awesome wife, Lori, for her continual support and encouragement. Give A Damn \Giv • ə • dam\ vb 1 : CARE 2 : To feel a sense of personal obligation. 3 : To commit oneself fully to a job, pursuit, or cause. see also BUY IN Preface This book is about successfully employing teenagers and 20-somethings. As of this writing, this group was born between the years of 1980 and 1994, a segment of the American population I refer to as “Generation Why.” However, as I have come to believe through my research and writings, inherent dangers lurk when generalizing about a group of individuals born between certain years.

  • Catalog 2018 General.Pdf
TERRY’S COMICS Welcome to Catalog number twenty-one. Thank you to everyone who ordered from one or more of our previous catalogs and especially Gold and Platinum customers. Please be patient when you call if we are not here, we promise to get back to you as soon as possible. Our normal hours are Monday through Friday 8:00AM-4:00PM Pacific Time. You can always send e-mail requests and we will reply as soon as we are able. This catalog has been expanded to include a large DC selection of comics that were purchased with Jamie Graham of Gram Crackers. All comics that are stickered below $10 have been omitted as well as paperbacks, Digests, Posters and Artwork and many Magazines. I also removed the mid-grade/priced issue if there were more than two copies, if you don't see a middle grade of an issue number, just ask for it. They are available on the regular web-site www.terryscomics.com. If you are looking for non-key comics from the 1980's to present, please send us your want list as we have most every issue from the past 35 years in our warehouse. Over the past two years we have finally been able to process the bulk of the very large DC collection known as the Jerome Wenker Collection. He started collecting comic books in 1983 and has assembled one of the most complete collections of DC comics that were known to exist. He had regular ("newsstand" up until the 1990's) issues, direct afterwards, the collection was only 22 short of being complete (with only 84 incomplete.) This collection is a piece of Comic book history.

TONY SOPRANO and his crew: CHRISTOPHER, SILVIO and PAULIE are standing around a tall cocktail table, surrounded by well- dressed, Happy-Hour Manhattanites. PAULIE What’s with these New York joints, no freakin’ chairs. SILVIO It keeps people movin’, keeps ‘em drinkin’. It’s smart. PAULIE Fuck smart. My feet are killing me. These are new shoes. Christopher looks down at Paulie’s somewhat dainty Italian tassle loafers. CHRISTOPHER Always with the tassles-- PAULIE Hey, don’t start with me about that. TONY Knock it off, the both of you. Tony cases the joint, looking anxious, as always. TONY (cont’d) I don’t like this. PAULIE Yeah, no chairs-- TONY It’s not the chairs, it’s it’s this-- Tony vaguely waves his arm, indicating the entire room. CHRISTOPHER Seriously, T, just lighten up and have a drink. How often do we all get to come into The City together? TONY Since when does Johnny Sack call a sit- down and we’re the ones gotta do the driving? (CONTINUED) 2. CONTINUED: SILVIO In all fairness, he’s made the past couple a trips in our direction. TONY Fuck fair. Christopher scans the crowd and sees three hot women walk into the bar and encircle a cocktail table several feet away. CHRISTOPHER (nodding toward the girls) I might have ta fuck something. Marone’ Tony, Sil and Paulie look across the bar at the three women and we see: CARRIE BRADSHAW and her friends CHARLOTTE and SAMANTHA.

  • Growing up in a Catskills Resort Hotel
Growing Up in a Catskills Resort Hotel Marc Stier Introduction One of the last times I walked on the grounds of the hotel my family owned—Stier’s Hotel—was about twenty years ago when I took my wife and some cousins to see it. That was also about fifteen years after we sold the hotel. At the time, our hotel still functioned as a hotel, although much has changed and it is owned by Hasidic Jews. They day we showed up was Shabbos and I was reluctant to walk onto the grounds. So we just stood at one of the gates and looked in. Soon a young boy, probably no more than 12 or 13, came up to us and asked who we are. I told him who I was and he said, “You, you are one of the Stiers?” I said, “yes.” And he said, “do you remember where the valve is that turns the water off in the Oak cottage?” It turned out that I was meeting the son of the current owner—I was meeting myself thirty years later. So we walked onto the property and I showed him where the valves that turned off the water to the Oak were hidden in some tall grass not far from where there once was a sandbox in which I spent many happy hours and, also from, the “climbing tree,” an apple tree that had a convenient set of “steps” that helped small kids get high up into it. I was invited to prepare this paper for a panel at a sociology conference by the leading historian of the Catskills, Phil Brown, because my family owned a hotel in Ferndale, NY for 53 years from 1920 to 1973.
