Darke County Chamber Directory 3 The Chamber Thanks our Covid-19 Heroes! To our doctors, nurses, first responders, nursing home caregivers, truck drivers, grocery stores, restaurants, mail and delivery workers, government leadership, community volunteers, churches, law enforcement, and everyone that has made a difference. The Chamber appreciates you! We are still in this together! You may have heard the following quote from television personality Fred Rogers: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” In times of crisis, people don’t always rank the business community high on their list of society’s helpers, but we should. Whenever a crisis materializes, businesses have always been among the first to step up and help lead efforts that make positive impacts in people’s lives. Whether it’s delivering clean water and supplies to tornado ravaged communities or donating funds to help families rebuild after a storm, make no mistake—businesses have always been impacted by crisis and yet they continue to help our community and each other. Please continue to support our local chamber member businesses. OH-70205891

History Local “Champions” The Coalition for a Healthy Darke County was founded as a 501(c)3 in 2016 with a goal of “leading our community in a collaborative effort to impact health, wellness and social issues.” In 2019, the Coalition was approached by members of the Healing Communities Study (HCS) from Ohio State University and asked to participate in a community-based research study with the primary goal of reducing opioid overdose deaths by 40% over 3 years. The HCS is funded and overseen by the National Institutes of Health and is taking place across four states and in 18 counties throughout Ohio. In Darke County, the study provides $900,000 in grant funding to support the implementation of local, evidence-based interventions to meet the study’s primary goal. State of the Heart Care State of the Heart Care provides patients and families the services they need, where they need them, and when they matter most. State of the Heart Care has adopted best practices to ensure peace and comfort. The goal of State of the Heart Care is to enable patients to continue an alert, pain-free life and to manage other symptoms so that their last days may be spent with dignity and comfort, surround- ed by their loved ones. Hospice affirms life and does not hasten or postpone death. Hospice care treats the person rather than the disease; it focus- es on quality rather than length of life. Hospice care is family-centered care — it involves the patient and the family in making decisions. At State of the Heart Care, the interdisciplinary health care team manages hospice care. Doctors, nurses, social workers, counselors, hospice aides, clergy, therapists, and trained volunteers care for patients. Each of these people offers sup- port based on their special areas of expertise. Together, they then give patients and loved ones complete palliative care aimed at relieving symp- toms and giving social, emotional, and spiritual support.
