For us men and for our salvation I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, he came down from heaven, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. THE LORD’S PRAYER

AGNUS DEI COMMUNION God with Hidden Majesty ADORO TE DEVOTE

1. God with hidden majesty, lies in presence here, 3. God lay stretched upon the cross, only man could die. I, with deep devotion, my true God revere. Here upon the altar, God and man both lie. Whom this outward shape and form secretly contains, This I firmly hold as true, this is my belief, Christ in his divinity, manhood still retains. And I seek salvation like the dying thief.

2. All my other senses cannot now perceive, 4. Wounds that doubting Thomas saw, I could never see, But my hearing, taught by faith, always will believe. But I still acknowledge you my true God to be, I accept whatever God the Son has said. Grant that I shall always keep strong in faith and trust, Those who hear the word of God, by the are fed. Guided by my Savior, merciful and just.

As our summer begins to wind to a close and I look over these past few months, it seems to me that there is much for which to be grateful. In June, we completed a successful campaign in which you committed over one million dollars for improvements and upgrades to our Cathedral Campus. July and August have been filled with construction workers making repairs, replacing the rectory roof and upgrading the Ribble Center. It looks as if we will now have all of the weather sensitive projects completed by the time the wet and cold months set in.

Some have asked me when we will begin work on the bishop’s chair and Cathedral Sanctuary. My most accurate response would be some time in the next three years. We need to keep in mind that the Cathedral Campaign for a Second Century was designed as a three-year campaign. Although some have been able to make one time gifts and complete their pledges early, many parishioners (including me) will need the full three years to fulfill pledges.

We are going to continue improvements at a steady pace over these next three years. The schedule will be driven by budget as well as the amount of money we have on hand from pledge redemption. Within a few weeks, we will see the final completion of the Ribble Center and then we will move on to the Rectory (window replacement, electrical, etc.).

The Building Committee is currently doing some work behind the scenes in preparation for our sanctuary upgrade. We are gathering information from restoration painters and marble experts to help us when the time comes to cut down the cement cloud and install the bishop’s chair. Again, this is going to take some time but we do have three years in which to make these changes.

I hope you will join me in thanking God for what has been achieved over these summer months. We have certainly done our very best to honor our past and lay a solid foundation for the future.

Asking for the prayers of Our Lady of Lourdes, I remain,

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Father Darrin Connall Rector 6

Sister M. Celeste SSND October 3rd, 1913 – August 27th, 2012

Notre Dame Sister Celeste died peacefully on August 27th, 2012 in Mankato, Minnesota. The funeral Mass was held at Good Council Chapel on August 31st, 2012, followed by burial in Good Council Cemetery. Sister shared in the SSND presence on Good Council Hill for 93 years, having attended primary and secondary school there before entering the order.

She was born in Windom, Minnesota on October 3rd, 1913. She was the daughter of Henry and Mary Glovka and named Viola Mary. Her decision to enter the Notre Dame order came during her High school senior retreat. She had been thinking about being a sister and considered joining her aunt in the Rochester Franciscans, or perhaps Maryknoll. She recalled “I’ll never forget it. On February 2nd, 1930 as I was coming from Holy Communion, I heard the words “My Child to Notre Dame”. She entered the candidature on August 27th, the same day on which she died 82 years later.

Sister Celeste arrived in Spokane in 1936. Her first of many assignments in the state of Washington was at St. Joseph’s in Spokane, where she taught from 1936-1944, during which time she earned her B.A. from Holy Names in 1941. In 1951 she was assigned to Holy Family School in Clarkston for ten years. She returned to Spokane to earn her M.A. from Gonzaga in 1962. Other Spokane Diocese assignments were Guardian Angel and St. Bonifice in Colton. She also taught in Omak. Her final assignment was at Trinity in Spokane from 1975-81. She retired from active teaching in 1981.

Sister Celeste, a gentle woman, was always faithful to prayer. On the occasion of the 75th Jubilee in 2008, she wrote “God has been very good to me over these 75 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. I owe Him great love & thanks”.

Over a span of forty five years, Sister spent thirty of them teaching in the Spokane Diocese. The current ages of her former students range from 45 up to 85. She touched the hearts of all. She was dearly loved and respected by students. What beautiful memories we have of her. A Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated on August 27th at the Noon Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. A former student himself, Father Darrin Connall will preside. Job Opportunity! Campaign Update

The concrete work has been completed on the Ribble Center and the brick paving stones are being installed. The pavers will help to provide an attractive and inviting entry to the Center. The next step in the project will be to install awnings over the entrances which will then be followed by lighting and landscaping. These improvements would not be possible without your generous contributions to the Cathedral Campaign for a Second Century.

August 27 BBQ & Homeless Connect

There have been previous announcements about the work being done for this event. This work will continue right up until the last dust bin of dirt is swept up after all is said and done. Our Buildings fellows will be the first ones there and the last to leave.

The Social Justice and Solidarity Committee hope to have you - members and attendees of this Parish - there to attend and help if you can or would like to. It is obvious to me that you already have given during the second collections to make this event happen. The proof of your generosity will be on the plates the day of the BBQ and the smiles on the faces of those folks carrying those full plates. I humbly ask you to do yourself a huge favor and come and see and experience the joy and appreciation of the fruits of your generosity. Even more terrifying to some - I would further challenge anyone coming to interact with our guests - many homeless - many marginalized - some with challenges that....well, you get the idea. All children of God wish to be treated with dignity and courtesy; to connect with others on opinions on day to day issues: sports teams; movies; weather or what have you. I promise you that if you come and invest time, step a little out of your comfort zone and endeavor to help feed a tummy and a heart - you will be paid back ten fold in blessings that comes from service to others.

Sincerely, Catholic Charities' Care Cruiser will be at our Parish Colin Harris BBQ/Homeless Connect
