AlterEgo ‘Chelsea Story’ Friday 5th April Mr Syson and Mr Darby are inviting in a production company to highlight the current issues surrounding Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE).

AlterEgo’s ‘Chelsea’s Story’ is an innovative and powerful production highlighting the very serious and emotional issue of child sexual exploitation. The production shows how young people, boys and girls, are groomed by adults for the purposes of sexual exploitation using various methods, ensnaring young people and eventually taking complete control and dominating their whole lives. The audience will gain a better understanding of the devastating impact that sexual exploitation has on a young person’s life. This is a very useful and innovative way of raising awareness of the issues relating to sexual exploitation and reaching young people, giving them some skills and knowledge to be able to protect themselves from this form of abuse.

Duke of Edinburgh – Year 10 Wednesday 3 April at 6pm We will be having a parent briefing for the current Year 10 Bronze Duke of Edinburgh on Wednesday 3rd April at 6pm in the school hall. It is essential that all of our current Year 10 cohort of DofE students turn up for the parent briefing, so that we can run through the process for the expeditions and hand out the kit needed. Students will need tents, roll mats, stoves and rucksacks.

Please let Mr Bishop or myself know if you are unable to make the meeting. [email protected] or [email protected]

Mr Jeffs Duke of Edinburgh Manager

Year 10 Parents Consultation Evening Tuesday 23rd April 2019 I would like to invite you to the second Year 10 Parents’ Consultation Evening on Tuesday 23 April 2019 from 4.30 until 7.30. It is important that parents attend this evening because it provides you with an opportunity to meet your child’s subject teacher, discussing progress towards targets and their expected outcomes at the end of Year 10.

Your son/daughter has been given an appointment sheet to book appointments on your behalf with the staff. Each appointment is five minutes long and five minutes should be left between each appointment to allow you to find the next teacher. A plan will be available in the reception area to show you where staff are located. Ideally you should try to book an appointment with every member of staff that teaches your child, however, we know that this can be difficult. Should this be the case please see as many teachers as you can and make sure you get an appointment with your child’s Form Tutor. We strongly believe that the consultation is most effective when all parties concerned talk together, therefore please encourage your son/daughter to come with you!

We trust that we are able to rely on your continued support, maintaining your child’s progress towards their expected outcome.

All Geography Students KS3-KS5 Each week the Geography department will be issuing an enrichment homework to encourage students to read more widely, examining synoptic links and keep up to date with geography-related news. This week’s homework examines the impact of melting glaciers on .

Mrs Mitchell Head of Geography

Geography in the News - 11 Wider Reading in Geography

Geography in the News this week the impact of melting glaciers on Mount Everest. To get started have read this article on the BBC website: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-47638436

Key Term: Glacier: a slowly moving mass or river of ice formed by the gathering and compaction of snow on mountains or near the poles.

The Facts  Why are climbers’ bodies being found on Mount Everest?  How many mountaineers have died on Mount Everest?  How many people have climbed Mount Everest?  What percentage of climbers have died? (you’re going to need to calculate this!)  Why are glaciers melting on Mount Everest?  What do the Expedition Operators Association of Nepal (EOAN) bring down from Mount Everest this climbing season?  What is the name of the glacier where a body became exposed in 2017?  Why did Nepal's army drain the Imja Lake near Mount Everest in 2016?  What is ‘’? What is the importance of ‘green boots’?  How much does it cost to bring a body down from Mount Everest?

The Links  How does this article link to what you have previously studied in geography and/or what you already know?

The Next Level  How will melting glaciers in the Himalayas affect people downstream?

Above and Beyond  Build a model to show the main features of a glacier or upland glacial area. You can use any materials you like.
