Head Instructor of Brains & Blades 2015 - present

• The focus of Brain & Blades is to develop analytical and strategic thinking under duress. Clients are encouraged to find tactical solutions that work for them. Brains & Blades also provide training methodologies that include swordplay, stick and empty hand to foster application over theory.

Lead Instructor of Krabi Krabong @ SEAMA for MHHS 2014 – 2015

• Was teaching Filipino youth at risk as part of the South East Asian (SEAMA) program sponsored by the Multicultural Helping House Society (MHHS).

Lead Instructor of @ Mabangis Kali 2007 – 2009

• After coming back from the Philippines where I trained for 4 months with the Marines’ Force Recon instructor Rommel Tortal, I opened a small school where the focus was on tactical training.

Co-Founder & lead Instructor @ Maelstrom Martial Arts 2003 - 2013

• Designed curriculums and taught classes for beginners, intermediate and advance students, in Pekiti Tirsia Kali, Mande Muda and Jati Wissesa Silat and Krabi Krabong

• Created several marketing strategies still in use to this day. In Addition, these strategies have been emulated by other martial arts clubs to promote their own services.

• Performed as the administrator.

Lead Instructor of Filipino Martial Arts @ Main Street gym 2001 – 2003

• Was asked by the owner to create a class and a curriculum for Filipino martial arts.

Lead Instructor of Filipino Martial Arts @ Action Room in New West 1999 – 2001

• Was teaching Filipino martial arts for the context of film.

Instructor Assistant of Pekiti Tirsia Kali @ Mano y 1997 – 1999

• The main focus of this was full contact stick & knife sparring but also included empty hand and stick .

Training

Like many, my introduction to martial arts was in 1986 – 87 with lead instructor Nicole Carmel. Since then, my experience has expanded to include many more styles. While my main influences remain Pekiti Tirsia kali and -boxing, several instructors have contributed and continue to contribute to my training.
