From the Pastor Dear Parishioners: Today, June 13th, would have been the Feast of St. Anthony, however, Sunday takes precedence over the Feast. St. Anthony was born in 1195 in Lisbon, Portugal. He was a nobleman who later became an Augustinian Monk. He decided to become a Franciscan as he witnessed the procession of Franciscans who had been martyred in Morocco. After relative obscurity as a Franciscan, he was a last-minute substitute to preach at an important event. His skill was noticed, and thus began a preaching mission in many cities in Europe. Anthony’s tireless work continued until his death at the age of 36 on June 13, 1231. St. Anthony became associated with items lost and found. He had lost a book of Psalms in which he made notes to use in homilies. He prayed to find it. It did turn up along with an errant novice who returned to the Franciscans. “St. Anthony’s Bread” refers to the time when a young child drowned in a barrel filled with water. The child’s mother called on the Saint to help, and if the child was restored to her, she would make a gift of grain equal to the weight of her child; and so it happened. That is how the custom of giving bread to the hungry or other charitable donations on that day started. June 15th is the Feast of St. Germaine Cousin. She lived from 1579 to 1601. St was born near Toulouse, France. She was a poor sickly peasant girl who lost her mother at an early age. She had a paralyzed right hand and she was kept away from her stepbrothers and stepsisters. She was forced to eat leftover food and table scraps, and to sleep under the stairs. She was often beaten and ridiculed. At an early age she was sent to shepherd the sheep. There she found solace in the beauty of nature. Young children gathered around her and saw her goodness. She went to daily Mass and the sheep never strayed. Slowly holiness about her life spread. Her stepmother offered her a bed at home, but she declined. She was found dead on her bed of straw. June 16th is the Feast of St. John Regis. He was born on June 13, 1597 in France. At the age of 14 he was sent to a Jesuit College. At 18 he entered the Society of Jesus and was later ordained a priest. Regis spent much time preaching, visiting hospitals, and tending to the needy. He opened houses of refuge for wayward women. He died in 1640, and was almost immediately venerated as a Saint. June 16th is “Children’s Day.” On June 3, 2001 President George W. Bush proclaimed National Child’s Day to be held in early June to celebrate the unique gifts of every child and every neighborhood. June 17th is the Feast of St. Albert Chmielowski, who was born in 1845 near Krakow, Poland. He felt called by God to serve the poor. In 1887 adopting a sackcloth habit and the name Brother Albert, he began begging for the poor. He founded the Brothers of the Third Order of St. Francis, Servants of the Poor also known as the Gray Brothers. He established nearly a dozen homes for the poor by the time of his death in 1916. He was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1989. We remember the 9 people killed on June 17, 2015 during a Bible Study at Emanuel African Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. June 19th is the Feast of St. Romuald. He was an Abbot who in 980 founded the Camaldolese Benedictine Hermitage. He died in 1027. In the US, the order is located at Big Sur in California. Yours in Christ, Fr. Herb Spiritual Bouquet envelopes for Father’s Day are available on the table. Please fill out and place in the Offertory Box in the Narthex. Confirmation

CONFIRMATION December 1, 2020 Dear Parents and Students, You have elected to register your son/daughter for the St. Agnes Christian Formation program this year. When registering your son/daughter it is stated that our Confirmation program is a two-year program. This program challenges him or her to grow in his or her understanding of the Catholic faith and his or her personal relationship with God. There are several points to make you aware of in preparation for Confirmation (which starts in 8th grade with the student receiving the Sacrament with the completion of 9th grade studies) (due to pandemic this school year completion of 10th grade)). Successful completion of the curriculum includes once a month catechesis, service to others, and spending time with God in prayer. The greatest form of prayer is the celebration of the Mass. As Catholics, we are encouraged to attend weekly Mass in order to recognize God’s love more fully in the Word and Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. While the pandemic poses a particular challenge at this time, students and their families are highly encouraged to either attend weekly Mass in person (Precautions are in place to ensure everyone’s safety) or to seek out an online Mass to encourage growth in love for Christ in preparation for Confirmation. Below is a list of other expectations. Remember, these “assignments” are designed to support our students in their desire to know, love, and serve our wonderful God while helping to prepare them for the reception of the Sacrament. This process for being Confirmed in the Spirit is a commitment from the parish, support from parents, and a commitment from the student that wishes to be Confirmed.

    December 2020

Volume 9 Issue 2 December 2020 Padre Pio Fraternity Brothers and Sisters of St. Francis Region Fraternity On Christmas Day we are reminded that God, through the Incarnation, chose to live in fraternity with all of us, as unworthy as we may be. As Secular Franciscans we are called to imitate Our Lord, in what ways we can, through our fraternity with one another. The COVID-19 epidemic has, through most of 2020, been a disruption to our meeting one another face-to-face, and shall continue to be so on December 25. But Christ’s fraternity with us had also been met by many challenges, without His desire for such bonds having ever been dulled, and we remain called, as always, to imitate Him. Although we will continue resorting to phone calls and Zoom meetings, rather than hugging and sitting at tables with one another, for some months more, the bonds of that fraternity which began on Christmas Day, an event which can never be undone, very much remain. We will always have one another to call our brothers and sisters, no matter what challenges shape our world. We still have one another to wish a very Merry Christmas! The purpose of the paper is to present, in quantitative terms, shrines in the protected areas of Poland and to analyse the scale and forms of tourism relating to these sites. The subject of the research includes only shrines of the Roman Catholic Church. A descriptive-analytic method, a dynamic-com- parative method, as well as statistical methods were used to present the study results. Over 70 of more than 830 shrines that operate in Poland nowadays are located in areas of nature protected by legislation. At present, in the area of nine Polish national parks, there are twelve shrines and pilgrimage sites that are frequently visited by pilgrims and tourists traveling for religious or reli- gious and cognitive reasons. Nowadays, in the area of Polish natural landscape parks (with buffer zones), there are more than 60 shrines. So, on the weekend of Father's Day (how appropriate is that) following every Holy Mass (including the Saturday Vigil Holy Mass), we are invited to go downstairs to Trainor Hall and enjoy some coffee and cupcakes with him.
