2020 Combined Fund Drive Annual Report WASHINGTON GIVES Page 1 A MESSAGE FROM SECRETARY OF STATE KIM WYMAN As co-chair of the Washington State Combined Fund Drive (CFD), I am honored to present the CFD’s 2020 Annual Report. 2020 was a challenging year for all of us. Despite a global pandemic that changed our lives in ways we never imagined, our charity and nonprofit partners have continuously and tirelessly served our communities; and, with the CFD, our state and higher-education employees and retirees have selflessly supported these organizations and numerous other causes. Due to COVID-19, we had to suspend many of the in-person fundraisers and events we have enjoyed over the years. Plus, with most of our employees working remotely, we needed to find different ways to communicate the CFD’s latest programs and initiatives, and to rally our colleagues’ enthusiasm and support. Our creative and motivated CFD team stepped up by launching several fun and unique virtual promotions, activities, and fundraisers to ensure our donors are engaged, informed, and primed to participate. The team’s ceaseless energy and imagination helped inspire our fellow employees, retirees, and corporate partners to pledge $5.1 million to the charities and nonprofits that rely on our help and generosity. After such a challenging year, and as we settle into a new one, I believe this is worth acknowledging and celebrating. I am committed to advocating and advancing the CFD’s mission and its enduring legacy. Thank you to all our wonderful donors and volunteers for your hard work and giving spirit. Words cannot adequately express our gratitude. Sincerely, KIM WYMAN Secretary of State WASHINGTON GIVES Page 2 WASHINGTON GIVES Empowering Washington public employees, retirees, and higher-education faculty to strengthen our communities through the funding and support of charities. As a result, we were able to combine the breakfast meeting with the start of the annual giving campaign and host a virtual Leadership Kickoff Breakfast. Our event sponsor, TwinStar Credit Union, provided breakfast boxes to all volunteers to pick up and enjoy while watching the event. About 300 people watched our virtual event that featured a range of guest speakers including Secretary of State Kim Wyman, and representatives from Habitat for Humanity, Mike Tice Foundation, and TwinStar Credit Union. Thank you to our sponsor and everyone that was able to join the Leadership Kickoff Breakfast! 2020 FIRST WEEK TO GIVE Our partnership with Washington State Employees Credit Union resulted in another amazing year during the CFD’s First Week to Give. Donors raised more than $70,357 to member charities during the first week of the annual giving campaign and logged 797 volunteer hours, saving charities more than $21,500 in labor costs. WSECU provided a $5 Starbucks card to any donor who either started a new donation or increased their current donation by $5 or more. Donors could also qualify by submitting 1 hour of volunteer time during that week. Thank you to our sponsor WSECU and everyone who participated in the First Week to Give!
