Keywords: globalization, sport labor migration, sponsorship in sports 1. Introduction 1.1 The Concept of Globalization Globalization is discussed as a new solution which was developed in order to reestablish capitalism after the 1980s and for capitalism to overcome the last crisis it had experienced (Özer, 2005). It is therefore not possible to treat globalization separately from capitalism and its historical development.

Although it failed in the last round for the 2020 Olympic Games (beaten by Tokyo in 2013), and for the Euro 2016 (beaten by France in 2010), it has since been tipped as the strong favourite to host Euro 2024. International matches have been simultaneously utilized by the Turkish government as an opportunity to publicly demonstrate its willingness to resolve historically problematic issues with other countries, notably Armenia, Greece, and Syria.

In Turkey the growth rate in college graduates with degrees aligned to the industry is significant. However, despite the representation of women in the industry as athletes and teachers, within sports management women remain significantly underrepresented. This discussion highlights the cultural norms that contribute to gender representation and forecasts the gender equity benefits that would accrue to greater female representation in the sports industry.

  • History of the Silent Revolution in Women's
Sp Soc Int J Ph Ed Sp 2016 - Volume 16 – Issue 2 HISTORY OF THE SILENT REVOLUTION IN WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL IN TURKEY WHERE CONFUSION PREVAILS BETWEEN EASTERNIZATION AND WESTERNIZATION EREN ULUÖZ1 1School of Physical Education and Sports, Çukurova University, Adana/Turkey Abstract. Previous studies have discussed that religious beliefs, traditions and social barriers seriously constrain women’s participation in physical activity and sports. In Turkey, however, although there are no restrictions against the participation of women in either physical activities or sports in the legal sense, it has been reported in many scientific research-projects conducted that certain segments of the society have a negative attitude against sports. The aim of this study was to determine the history of the women’s volleyball in Turkey where confusion prevails between Easternization and Westernization. In this connection, the paper reports on how women’s volleyball has undergone a successful silent revolution and become internationally successful by overcoming religious and traditional barriers. In conclusion, the international successes of the Turkish Women’s Volleyball in spite of its short history, has not emerged as a result of a generally widespread and institutionalized volleyball culture in the country. Ever since volleyball has emerged in Turkey, it has attained permanent success with the extraordinary contributions of the Istanbul teams with large budgets, teams owned by state organizations, company teams and individuals like Selim Sırrı Tarcan, Sabbiha Rifat Erayman and members of the Eczacıbaşı family who were devoted supporters of sports, especially women’s volleyball. Keywords: Easternization; Westernization; Turkey; Volleyball; Women Introduction Sports have been used as a vehicle of self-expression by individuals at various levels almost in all societies ever since the advent of the Modern Olympics in 1896 [1].

UNIVERSIADE TORCH AND THE OLYMPIC/INNOVATIVE DIMENSION The 2013 Trentino Universiade Torch has been welcomed by Francis Gabet (Director of the Olympic Musum at the International Olympic Committee) in front of the Olympic flame at the IOC in Lausanne. This has been a symbolic moment, celebrating the 90th anniversary of the “World University Games” of Paris 1923, the mutual friendship between Jean Petitjean (inventor of the World University Games) and Pierre de Coubertin (inventor of the modern Olympics) and the mutual inspiration between Olympics/Universiade (the Olympic Games and Pierre del Coubertin inspired the 1923 World University Games; the 1960 Rome Olympics inspired Primo Nebiolo and the first modern Universiade in Turin 1959). An academic dialogue with Nuria Puig Brandes (Head of University Relations, Olympic Studies Research Centre, IOC) has followed on the themes of sport, innovation and the Universiade Conference. www.universiadetrentino.org/conference The Trentino Universiade has learned that the Olympic Museum is in a phase of “total metamorphosis” and will be inaugurated on December 10th, the day of the Universiade Conference (9-10.12). Also this seemed particularly symbolic to the interlocutors, as it is an additional element linking the academic dimension of sport, the mutual inspiration of Universiade-Olympics and the current focus on sport/innovation. The previous day, the Universiade Torch has been welcomed by the FISU Secretary General Eric Saintrond at the Maison du Sport International (FISU Headquarters) and at City Events (below with Vice-President Leonz Eder. This passage celebrated the 90th anniversary of the “World University Games”, the 10th edition of the Universiade in Italy (where the Universiade has been invented in Turin 1959), the “the Universiade of Innovation” (as the FISU President Gallien suggested last week in a Brussels workshop with Prof.

ABSTRACT The main focus of this study is to examine the modernization of the Ottoman navy during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz, exploring naval administration, education, and technology. Giving a summary of the transformation of shipbuilding technologies and bureaucratic institutions of the Ottoman naval forces between 1808 and 1861, it analyses the structure of the Ottoman navy, its level of development in comparison to previous periods of time, and the condition of the vessels making up the naval fleet from 1861 to 1876. It also intends to evaluate the character of existing administrative structures at the outset of Abdülaziz’s reign in 1861 and the nature of subsequent changes, including structural reorganization of the Imperial Naval Arsenal, the Ministry of Marine, and the Naval Academy, as well as advancements in military training and seafaring; all within the context of the impact of these changes on the military, political, and economic condition of the Empire during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz.

  • Use of New Media by Turkish Fans in Sport Communication: Facebook and Twitter
Journal of Human Kinetics volume 28/2011, 165-176 DOI: 10.2478/v10078-011-0033-x 165 Section III – Sport, Physical Education & Recreation Use of New Media by Turkish Fans in Sport Communication: Facebook and Twitter by Selami Özsoy1 This research examines the use of Facebook and Twitter, two social networks, for sportive reasons in Turkey. To this end, the literature was surveyed and a 5 Likert type data collection tool consisting of 21 questions was developed by the researcher based on the expert views. The sample of the research included 460 sport fans who are college students at Abant İzzet Baysal University and Sakarya University. It was found in the research that 91.7% of the participants had a profile on Facebook and 13.3% had a profile on Twitter. The rate of opening an account on Twitter, which still has no version in Turkish language, was low. It was found that the fans mostly followed the official site of their favorite team on Facebook, got informed about the sports activities through Facebook and learned news, which they did not hear from other sources. It was also ascertained that male fans used social networks for sportive reasons more than female fans did (p<.05). It is possible to state that social networks such as Facebook and Twitter have become a rapidly-developing alternative medium in sports against traditional media such as newspaper and television. Key words: sports, media, social networks. Introduction characterized as mostly a one-way communication system. On Web 1.0, a person or The Internet, which was introduced into company would generate a website and expect people’s lives within the last 20 years, has the target people to visit the website.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE National Wrestling of Tuva Turks: Huresh (Hüreş) INGA MENDOT*, MEHMET TURKMEN** *PhD, Tuvan State University, Kyzyl – Tyva, Russia. **Prof. Dr., Mus Alparslan University & Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, Bishkek, Kyrgyzistan. https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5926-7522 Correspondence to Inga Mendot, Email: Email: [email protected], ORCID ID:https://orcid.org/000-0002-5416-7573 ABSTRACT Aim: In this study, national traditional wrestling ‘Huresh / Hüreş’ of Tuvas, one of the ancient Siberian Turkic peoples, has been examined. Methods: Descriptive research and comparison method, one of the models included in the qualitative approach, was used in the study. Tuva national wrestling ‘huresh’ is an old, favourite kind of sport among tuvans. It is an inseparable part of any holidays, whether they are family, national or religion. Huresh competitions are usually held during the annual celebration of such holidays, as Naadym and Shagaa (New-Year). Results: Traditional wrestling, not only is Tuva a living symbol for the cultural characteristics of society, it is also a resource that produces identity for all Turkish people (at individual and collective level). In addition, in the research, a propositional legend was used to explain the importance of ‘Huresh’ and its rituals and the musical ceremonies in which they were consumed, to suggest a continuity between social signs, to create social meaning and national identity. Conclusion: The various cultural representations of Tuva Turks directly associated with wrestling are: national power myths, moral codes regarding the knightly ideals of competition and display; the importance of male power is that it expresses consensus notions in social coding.

Indeed Turin boasts an extensive network of sports associations, which involve hundreds of thousands of people in basic sports activities. It is for these two fundamental reasons that Turin’s candidature as European Capital of Sport in 2015 holds meaning and credibility. This is a candidature that highlights the multifaceted nature of a city that has been able to transform itself over the years, to turn from an industrial centre into a university city, and one which invests in research and innovation, tourism, culture and technology.
