The Opening Acclamation Book of Common Prayer, Page 299 Celebrant: Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. People: And blessed be God’s Kingdom, now and forever. Amen Celebrant: There is one Body and one Spirit; People: There is one hope in God’s call to us; Celebrant: One Lord, one Faith, one ; People: One God and Father of all.

The Collect of the Day Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Celebrant: Let us pray. O God, from whom all good proceeds: Grant that by your inspiration we may think those things that are right, and by your merciful guiding may do them; through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The First Reading Genesis 3:8-15 They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” He said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate.” Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent tricked me, and I ate.” The Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you among all animals and among all wild creatures; upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.” Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

The Psalm The people read the verses in bold. Psalm 130

Out of the depths have I called to you, O Lord; My soul waits for the Lord, Lord, hear my voice; let your ears consider well more than watchmen for the morning, the voice of my supplication. more than watchmen for the morning.

If you, Lord, were to note what is done O Israel, wait for the Lord, amiss, O Lord, who could stand? for with the Lord there is mercy;

For there is forgiveness with you; With him there is plenteous redemption, therefore you shall be feared. and he shall redeem Israel from all their sins.

I wait for the Lord; my soul waits for him; in his word is my hope.

Anthem With One Voice Terry Sinclair Jubilate Deo 3rd – 6th Grade Choir

With the sound of a drum, with a mandolin strum, use your music to sing God’s praise! With the pluck of a string, with a dulcimer ring, let your glorious songs be raised! From the African plain, through the Amazon rain, let God’s melody now be heard. From Brazil to Japan, from Peru to Iran, let the hearts of God’s children be stirred!

Alleluia, alleluia, together with one voice. Alleluia, alleluia, all nations now rejoice!

Praise him, praise him, all you little children, God is love, God is love. Praise him, praise him, all you little children, God is love. God is love.

From the African plain, through the Amazon rain, let God’s melody now be heard. From the Syrian land, to the Indian sand, let the hearts of God’s children be stirred!

Alleluia, alleluia, together with one voice. Alleluia, alleluia, let all the earth sing with one voice!

The Holy Gospel Mark 3:20-35 Gospeller: The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark. People: Glory to you, Lord Christ. The crowd came together again, so that Jesus and his disciples could not even eat. When his family heard it, they went out to restrain him, for people were saying, “He has gone out of his mind.” And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He has Beelzebul, and by the ruler of the demons he casts out demons.” And he called them to him, and spoke to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but his end has come. But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his property without first tying up the strong man; then indeed the house can be plundered. “Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for their sins and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”— for they had said, “He has an unclean spirit.” Then his mother and his brothers came; and standing outside, they sent to him and called him. A crowd was sitting around him; and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers and sisters are outside, asking for you.” And he replied, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” And looking at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.” Gospeller: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

6 Thanksgiving over the Water Page 306 Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give God thanks and praise.

Celebrant: We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life. We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from sin and born again may continue for ever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

The Baptism and The Sealing by the Holy Spirit Page 307 Celebrant: I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Celebrant: You are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ’s own for ever. Amen.

Celebrant: Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon this your servant the forgiveness of sin, and have raised her to the new life of grace. Sustain her, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give her an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen.

The Giving of the Christ Candle Celebrant: Esther, receive the light of Christ, a sign of the new life enkindled within you. People: Thanks be to God.

The Great Thanksgiving: Eucharistic Prayer A Page 361

Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give God thanks and praise. Celebrant: It is right and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

Because in Jesus Christ our Lord you have received us as your sons and daughters, made us citizens of your kingdom, and given us the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth.

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

The Sanctus and Benedictus qui venit

Music: American Folk Melody arr. Marcia Pruner Copyright: From Wonder, Love and Praise © 1997 the Church Pension Fund. All rights reserved. Used by permission.

9 Celebrant: Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper, he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me."

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Celebrant and People: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Celebrant: We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever.

People: AMEN.

The Lord's Prayer Page 364 Celebrant: And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, Celebrant and People:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread Page 364 Celebrant: Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. People: Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. Celebrant: The Gifts of God for the People of God.

10 The Post Communion Prayer Page 365 Celebrant and People: Almighty and everliving God, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal kingdom. And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

The Blessing Remember that life is short and we have too little time to gladden the hearts of those who travel the way with us. So be quick to be kind, make haste to love, and may the blessing of God Almighty: Father, Son and Holy Spirit be with you now and always. Amen.

St. Patrick’s filed a regathering plan with the diocese last summer after the bishop closed all of our parish buildings in March 2020 and we have been following those guidelines faithfully ever since. As of last week, the bishop has lifted those restrictions and is allowing us to follow public health guidance and the feelings of our individual community.

The Regathering Committee reconvened earlier this week to discuss the Bishop's letter, as well as the updated guidance and regulations from the DC government and the CDC. They presented recommendations to the Vestry for how to adjust our worship protocols going forward, which were approved at last night's meeting.

Going forward, we will no longer require advance registration to attend indoor services. We simply ask that you give your name and contact information to one of the ushers so that we can keep track of attendance for contact-tracing purposes. We are also doing away with the check-in process, and we will no longer require the signing of the diocesan covenant or take your temperature at the door. However, as always, we ask that you please stay home if you are not feeling well.

Because we will not be inquiring about vaccination status of people attending worship, we will continue to require masks inside our building including in the nave. Once you enter, you will choose a socially- distanced "seating pod" that will accommodate your family. Seating will also be available in the balcony. During the service, you will be able to sing softly while masked.

We will offer coffee refreshment outside in the courtyard after the Sunday service concludes, so it will be an actual coffee hour! Communion will be available for pick up as you make your way to the courtyard.

While we are excited to be able to loosen these restrictions, the health and safety of every parishioner is our primary concern. Therefore, for the foreseeable future, we will continue to live-stream every service for anyone not yet ready or able to meet indoors.

Thank you for the grace and patience you all have shown during these strange and difficult times. I pray that this next step will allow our community to safely meet together more regularly.

Faithfully, Kurt+

Thank you to our Jubilate Deo Choir! These 3rd through 6th graders have really persevered through our music program this past year and a half. They gather each week on zoom to go over our anthems, share some fellowship and strengthen their bonds as a community here at St. Patrick’s even though they have done it all “at a distance.” Many thanks to our singers, as well as their parents and helpers who monitor tech, send recordings, arrange backgrounds for videos and stay on top of schedules. As we finish up our singing year today, we especially recognize our 6th grade singers, Kaeje Flannigan and Mariana Rahal who will be moving on to the Classy program grade when we resume in the fall. We look forward to seeing Sloane Carter, Eliot Christensen, Thea Garber, Daisy Hough, David Hounshell, Lila Kean, Eviana Lobene, Artha and Anatole Princivil, Riley Smith, and Louise Tucker back with us for Jubilate Deo in September.

Have a rising 3rd- 6th grader who may be interested in singing with us? Let me know!
