Este programa — Filosofia e Ciência Espíritas — faz o fechamento dos conteúdos doutrinários do Estudo Aprofundado da Doutrina Espírita – EADE. Organizado em 33 Roteiros, Filosofia e Ciência Espíritas prioriza os aspectos filo- sóficos e científicos do Espiritismo, tendo como base os referenciais do conhecimento universal que integra os saberes da humanidade terrestre, deles retirando subsídios que demonstram a relevância e atualização do pensamento espírita. Na construção de cada Roteiro de Estudo foi aplicada a metodologia de análise comparativa de textos, demonstrando que cada aprendizado tem um valor específico, necessário à melhoria do Espírito. Contudo, em razão do conteúdo científico ou tecnológico presentes em alguns roteiros de estudo, sugere-se que os assuntos sejam desdobrados e analisados em quantas reuniões se fizerem necessárias, a fim de facilitar o aprendizado. Importa destacar que Filosofia e Ciência Espíritas é um programa de estudo espírita, destinado ao público espírita, que prioriza a interpretação espírita, que jamais perde de vista a noção da urgente necessidade de aperfeiçoamento moral do ser humano. Neste contexto, considerando o significado e a importância do aspecto científico, filosófico e religioso do Espiritismo, adotamos como norma orientadora do trabalho este ensina- mento de Emmanuel: Podemos tomar o Espiritismo, simbolizado desse modo, como um triângulo de forças espirituais. A ciência e a Filosofia vinculam à Terra essa figura simbólica, porém, a Religião é o ângulo divino que a liga ao céu. No seu aspecto científico e filosófico, a Doutrina será sempre um campo nobre de investigações humanas, como outros movimentos coletivos, de natureza intelectual, que visam o aperfeiçoamento da Humanidade. O estudo teórico da Doutrina Espírita desenvolvido no EADE está fundamentado nas obras da Codificação e nas complementares a estas, cujas ideias guardam fidelida- de com as diretrizes morais e doutrinárias definidas, respectivamente por Jesus e por Allan Kardec. Os conteúdos do EADE priorizam o conhecimento espírita e destaca a relevância da formação moral do ser humano. Contudo, sempre que necessário, tais as orienta- ções são comparadas a conhecimentos universais, filosóficos, científicos e tecnológicos, presentes na cultura e na civilização da Humanidade, com o intuito de demonstrar a relevância e a atualidade da Doutrina Espírita. Os objetivos do Curso podem ser resumidos em dois, assim especificados: • Propiciar o conhecimento aprofundado da Doutrina Espírita no seu tríplice aspecto: religioso, filosófico e científico. • Favorecer o desenvolvimento da consciência espírita, necessário ao aprimoramento moral do ser humano O Estudo Aprofundado da Doutrina Espírita tem como público-alvo todos os espíri- tas que gostem de estudar, que desejam prosseguir nos seus estudos doutrinários básicos, realizando aprofundamentos de temas que conduzam à reflexão, moral e intelectual. Neste sentido, o Curso é constituído de uma série de quatro volumes, formatados em dois programas: Programa Religião à Luz do Espiritismo — em que se procura resgatar a mensagem cristã, indicando ser o Espiritismo o Cristianismo Redivivo —, e Programa Filosofia e Ciência Espíritas, que faz uma análise

For there to be a story, something unforeseen must happen. Story is enormously sensitive to whatever challenges our conception of the canonical. It is an instrument not so much for solving problems as for finding them. The plight depicted marks a story’s type as much as the resolution. We more often tell stories to forewarn than to instruct. And because of this, stories are a culture’s coin and currency.” – Jerome Bruner, Making Stories Unit Rationale While students usually study some mythological text in their high school English classes, such as Beowulf and The Odyssey, these texts are often taught in isolation from other myths. Their content is covered in much the same way as the content of a contemporary novel or short story, with priority given to the recall of specific plot details and the application of literary devices. In addition, because the structure of the English curriculum is often chronological by design, myths may primarily be presented as examples of ancient literature with no link to the present. The function of these myths for the societies that produced them is rarely the focus of instruction, except perhaps in the definition of terms such as hero and epic. While there is nothing wrong with studying mythology in the context of a literature class, approaching it this way has limitations.

SCHELL (Under the Direction of Howard Keeley) ABSTRACT This essay is a look at a little known Irish poet, William Allingham, who invokes the fairy as a vehicle for a political change in Ireland. It offers a close reading of a few of his poems as well as historically approaches the use of fairies in the popular culture of the nineteenth century. In Chapter I, I use an historical approach to discuss the biography of William Allingham and his place in Irish literature as “a poet we have neglected.” I also discuss a cultural study of the portrayal and use of the fairy in the nineteenth century.
