Thomson Playford Cutlers Associate – Environmental and Planning Litigation and general commercial litigation Spends her summers on archaeological digs with Macquarie’s Australian Centre for Egyptology. “I chose Macquarie University for my undergraduate degree program primarily because of its Ancient History Department and in particular its courses in Egyptology. In pursuing this interest I participated in a number of archaeological excavations at Helwan in Egypt through Macquarie’s Australian Centre for Egyptology, directed by Associate Professor Dr Christiana Kohler. I added law to my undergraduate program in second year. I became particularly interested in criminal law, participating in a program run by a Macquarie criminal law lecturer at Silverwater Correctional Centre, the aim of which was for students to assist inmates with legal research and the preparation of their cases for trial. I majored in international law, completing a number of the international law subjects offered by Macquarie and choosing an international law topic for my major research project. I have subsequently completed a Masters of Arts in Egyptology and am currently enrolled in a Masters of Environmental and Local Government Law at Macquarie. I chose to do both my Egyptology and Law masters degrees at Macquarie because they are both particular specialist degrees not offered anywhere else in . I was fortunate to have been able to combine my interests by choosing Egypt for my comparative international environmental law paper for my current masters degree.”
