Since OL Groupe was created in 1999, it has built an innovative business model combining financial durability and a recurrent revenue stream. This strategy was strengthened in January 2016 when Olympique Lyonnais Park was brought into service. OL Groupe is now the only club in France with a 100% privately-owned, ultra-modern, connected stadium with nearly 60,000 seats in a multi-functional park open 365 days a year. The Group’s activities are articulated around five complementary sources of revenue: TICKETING SPONSORING AND ADVERTISING MEDIA AND MARKETING RIGHTS BRAND-RELATED REVENUE (derivative products, new stadium products, image/video, travel, etc.) PLAYER TRADING In operating the Olympique Lyonnais Park, pursuing a strategy to train and capitalise on young, talented players from the Academy and strengthening international partnerships, OL Groupe is focusing on the priorities that are enabling it to grow and maintain its recurrent revenue over the long term. The risks to which the Group is exposed are described in chapter 4 of the Registration Document. IS THIS ALSO YOUR TAKEAWAY FROM 2015/16? "9 January 2016 will be a day to remember in the history of the club! The inauguration of OL Park marked the culmination of 10 years’ work during which we developed a totally new concept in France. Culmination on the one hand, and the beginning of a new economic era for OL Groupe on the other, with the implementation of a strategy built around a private stadium generating significant additional revenue, similar to that of other major European clubs. The opening of the stadium was the most significant event of the financial year and also contributed to making the Group profitable again, with profit from ordinary activities well into the black at €27 million and substantial EBITDA of €52.1 million. Over only six months of operation, OL Park had an immediate impact on the Group’s revenue, which surged by over 93% (excluding player trading) to €160.0 million vs. €96.3 million in 2014/15, thereby demonstrating that this strategic choice was the right one for OL Groupe and for the club’s future. We remain determined to strengthen OL Groupe’s place among the top European clubs. This is the reasoning behind the plan we announced to welcome the IDG group as a new, 20% shareholder of OL Groupe for €100 million, as specified in the term sheet signed last August. Finalising this plan will enable us to step up the deployment of our strategy around the new stadium we inaugurated on 9 January." IV OL PARK IS ALREADY MUCH MORE THAN A STADIUM. IS THE REST OF THE PROJECT UNDERWAY? "Underway and already partially completed. Four other facilities are now in place: the Groupama OL Training Center; the Groupama OL Academy; the Brasserie des Lumières and the Community Innovation and Corporate & Employment Centre. The men’s and women’s professional teams as well as the Pro2 squad began using the Groupama OL Training Center right from the start of the 2016/17 season. This joint approach – men/women and professional/neo-professional – the first of its kind in France for this type of facility – reflects both the club’s philosophy and its three-pronged sporting strategy based on Excellence, Women’s football and the Academy. The 25-acre complex comprises five pitches including one with 1,500 seats, 5,000 sq. m. of indoor space with changing rooms, a medical unit, a gym, a balneotherapy space, a warmup area, a company cafeteria and an area dedicated to the media. The Groupama OL Academy, also open since summer 2016, forms an integral part of the plan. A mixed-sex facility like the one the professionals use, also a first in France, the OL Academy offers optimal conditions for training OL’s 500 young licensed players, both boys and girls (6 pitches including 1 grass pitch, a medical unit, a gym, etc.) and has two buildings with a total of 8,000 sq. m. of space for the changing rooms, the residence halls and the offices of Association Olympique Lyonnais. The Brasserie des Lumières opened in early September. With capacity for 300 customers, this Bocuse-branded brasserie rounds out OL Park’s services and helps to develop the economic fabric of the eastern Lyon suburbs by offering the largest dining facility in the area. The Corporate and Employment Centre, inaugurated in October 2016, expresses OL Groupe’s determination to turn OL Park into a community innovation centre, a place for work, relaxation and regional development. It is an extension of the work undertaken during the stadium construction phase, when nearly 500 people benefited from an integration clause and put in 17% of the hours worked on the construction site. The Corporate and Employment Centre will help local employers identify the skills they need and the opportunities they offer, thereby facilitating their search for suitable candidates. Sanofi and Groupama are the first two companies to support the programme directly." WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF OL GROUPE? "A museum, a medical unit, a hotel, a leisure & entertainment complex and office buildings will soon complement the existing facilities. As to the stadium itself, the success of the first few non-OL events is generating interest among producers and domestic & international sports organisations. Two major events have already been scheduled between now and 30 June 2017: the first Coupe de la Ligue outside of Paris (1 April 2017), and a Coldplay concert on 8 June 2017. We have also been solicited to work on other projects with a good chance of success, such as concerts during summer 2017 and maybe the Europa League final as early as 2018, not to mention the 2019 Women’s World Cup for which FIFA has already awarded us the opening and final matches." AND AMONG YOUR FUTURE PLANS, YOU PLAN TO BRING THE IDG GROUP IN AS A SHAREHOLDER? "This deal should be finalised by the end of 2016 or February 2017 at the latest. It has two objectives. Firstly, it should strengthen our equity, facilitate the refinancing of our stadium-related debt and reduce our interest expense. Secondly, we’re going to create a joint venture to promote and develop the OL brand. For example, we will create sponsorships with Chinese companies and transfer our training expertise to football academies and professional training facilities." THIS EXEMPLARY CORPORATE STRATEGY ALSO AIMS TO OPTIMISE FOOTBALL RESULTS. ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS ON THIS SCORE? "Yes. The men’s team has qualified once again for the Champions League and the first 2016/17 matches were played in OL Park in September. The women’s team once again won a triple: Champions League, Division 1 and Coupe de France last June. The OL Academy was named no 1 in France for the fourth consecutive year and no 2 in Europe. The foundations of the club’s football success were strengthened when the new training facilities opened. The virtuous circle set in motion when OL Park opened is having a positive impact both on the pitch and on the financial statements. 9 January 2016 will indeed be remembered as a pivotal date in the club’s history."
