This past Saturday, the Gay And Lesbian Associa- tion Noordgesig (GALAN) in partnership with the Noordgesig Community Empowerment Project (NCEP) hosted Bulte’s first pride parade. It was indeed a day filled with fun and opportunities as children from the area were given a chance to showcase their talents. After working on a research pro- ject about Noordgesig, Bertha Smith convinced the founder of NCEP Jonathan Green from Eldorado Park to come back to the community and work together to fulfil their dreams. That’s how the idea of pride came into being Green said the event was a health and educational ceremony presented to the com- munity by them and their partners. The event kicked off with an aerobics session as a way of keeping everyone active and en- couraging a healthy lifestyle. Hearing about the brutal murder of Tshegofatso Pule, Toto had a flash back of what he witnessed years back and decided to re-do the song. Mtobo believes that music has the power to communicate and get an important message to the masses. Seeing, hearing and reading about the recurring issues of GBV made the artist put all his time and effort in re-making the song. It took him a whole four months to work on the song. “This thing has been happening even in the past but now it’s becoming worse. I took my time to work on the song,” he said. On the song he has worked with the likes of Seedmo, Lin Dough (Daddy ka Valdo), Moabi Kotu, Sonke Mazibuko and Ntu2ko. He felt that the song alone would not be loud enough and decided to brand the tittle of the song on t-shirts with the hope that perpetrators will be able to read the bold words and get the message. The song has two versions which is a male version and a female version. Mtobo explained that the one he just released is a male version and he want man to unite and address the issue of GBV because he feels that when the issue is addressed by man we can see positive results.
