Artist VIP presale is June 9 at 11 a.m., and venue presale is June 10th at 10 a.m. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, June 11 at noon at the Miller High Life Theatre box office or Ticketmaster. When King Crimson returns to action this July, it will be the seventh year that the band has toured since returning to performing live in 2014, a run only interrupted by the lockdown in 2020. In that time, the audience has been reinvented, as much as the band itself, something Robert Fripp noted after the band’s performance in Pompeii, Italy’s famous amphitheater: “In Pompeii, a large percentage of the audience was young couples; KC moved into the mainstream in Italy. I walked onstage knowing that this band's position in the world has changed level.” - Robert Fripp The band’s shows regularly include material from twelve of their thirteen studio albums, including many songs from their seminal 1969 album In the Court of the Crimson King, described by Pete Townshend as an “uncanny masterpiece.” The 7-piece line-up play many historic pieces, which Crimson has never previously played live, as well as new arrangements of Crimson classics – “the music is new whenever it was written.” There are also new instrumentals and songs, as well as compositions by the three drummers, Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison and Jeremy Stacey, which are a regular highlight. -

For 45 years, he has been a major force, producing a prodigious and creative body of work that expands beyond jazz. Surman’s extensive discography as a leader and a side man numbers more than 100 recordings to date. Surman has worked with dozens of prominent artists worldwide, including John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Chris McGregor’s Brotherhood of Breath, Dave Holland, Miroslav Vitous, Jack DeJohnette, Terje Rypdal, Weather Report, Karin Krog, Bill Frisell, Paul Motian and many more. Surman is probably most popularly known for his longstanding association with the German label ECM, who began releasing Surman’s recordings in 1979. Surman has won numerous jazz polls and awards and a number of important commissions. Every period of his career is filled with highlights, which is why Cuneiform is exceedingly proud to release for the first time ever this amazing document of the late 60s 'Brit-jazz' scene. Born in Tavistock, in England, Surman discovered music as a child, singing as soprano soloist in a Plymouth-area choir. He later bought a second- hand clarinet, took lessons from a Royal Marine Band clarinetist, and began playing traditional Dixieland jazz at local jazz clubs. -

Jazz, of course, has its fair share of supergroups too. Sometimes, one supergroup comes along that really is very special indeed. The Printmakers is such a group. The group formed at the instigation of Steve Mead at The Manchester Jazz Festival several years ago and since then has gone from strength to strength. Award winning Nikki Iles is one of the heroines of British jazz. She has made an invaluable contribution to the jazz scene in this country and beyond, while also making a very personal musical statement in many groups, not least her own superb Anglo-American trio with Rufus Reid and Jeff Williams. Grammy nominated and ECM recording artist Norma Winstone MBE, pioneering innovator of the voice, has been a leading light in European music for many years. She collaborated with Kenny Wheeler and John Taylor in Azimuth, described by Richard Williams as “one of the most imaginatively conceived and delicately balanced of all contemporary chamber jazz groups“. She has also worked with Fred Hersch, Steve Swallow, Jimmy Rowles, Mike Gibbs and Ralph Towner. She has had a resurgence recently, with three superb award winning ECM releases in collaboration with European musicians, Klaus Gesing and Glauco Venier. -

Candidates will be allowed appropriate preparation/ warming-up time in which to tune their instrument and, if appropriate, set up their chosen accompaniment (see subheading (d) below); this will be included in the total exam times given in the current Exam Information & Regulations booklet. The accompa - nist(s) may be present only for the tunes section of the exam, and so exams with live accompaniment will normally begin with the tunes. (c) Tunes Candidates should present a contrasted and balanced programme of three tunes (one from each list: Blues & Roots, Standards, and Contemporary Jazz). The tunes must be performed following the forms and chord sequences of the arrangements in ABRSM’s publications – the albums for each instrument at Grades 1–3 and The AB Real Book at Grades 4 & 5. -

Press Release Mick Foster is a saxophonist and composer who is known as one of the UK's foremost exponents of the baritone saxophone. 'Live at The Vortex' is an album of melodic original pieces composed by Mick. It was recorded at The Vortex Jazz Club, London, in 2018 and captures the intimacy and excitement of this venue. Mick plays baritone, alto and soprano saxophones and is joined by the engaging, versatile trio of Dominic Ashworth on guitars, Tom Farmer on bass and Tristan Mailliot on drums. The album is available in both digital format and as a physical CD, and will be released on Hainault Records (HNT 0015) on Oct 14 2020, via Bandcamp, Mick's own website and streaming sites. Biographies Mick Foster is a saxophonist and composer who is known as one of the UK's foremost exponents of the baritone saxophone. He has worked extensively in the fields of jazz, commercial and classical music as a saxophonist and composer. He has appeared with many ensembles which include the big bands of John Dankworth, Stan Sulzmann and Mike Garrick, the Back to Basie Orchestra, The Humphrey Lyttelton Band, Ginger Baker’s Air Force, Laura Jurd’s Human Spirit, The London Jazz Orchestra, The London Philharmonic Orchestra and English National Opera. As a composer Mick has written for many ensembles and his music has been played around the world and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. He has recorded three albums under his own name and runs his own record label, Hainault Records. Mick's other releases under his own name are Changing Fortunes (Black Box, 2000), October Dances (Hainault, 2011) and Four Views (Hainault 2012). -
