    Summary of Sexual Abuse Claims in Chapter 11 Cases of Boy Scouts of America There are approximately 101,135sexual abuse claims filed. Of those claims, the Tort Claimants’ Committee estimates that there are approximately 83,807 unique claims if the amended and superseded and multiple claims filed on account of the same survivor are removed. The summary of sexual abuse claims below uses the set of 83,807 of claim for purposes of claims summary below.1 The Tort Claimants’ Committee has broken down the sexual abuse claims in various categories for the purpose of disclosing where and when the sexual abuse claims arose and the identity of certain of the parties that are implicated in the alleged sexual abuse. Attached hereto as Exhibit 1 is a chart that shows the sexual abuse claims broken down by the year in which they first arose. Please note that there approximately 10,500 claims did not provide a date for when the sexual abuse occurred. As a result, those claims have not been assigned a year in which the abuse first arose. Attached hereto as Exhibit 2 is a chart that shows the claims broken down by the state or jurisdiction in which they arose. Please note there are approximately 7,186 claims that did not provide a location of abuse. Those claims are reflected by YY or ZZ in the codes used to identify the applicable state or jurisdiction. Those claims have not been assigned a state or other jurisdiction. Attached hereto as Exhibit 3 is a chart that shows the claims broken down by the Local Council implicated in the sexual abuse.

    Providence Bruins Games Mayflower Council is working with the Providence Bruins to provide our Scouts with discounted tickets to some of there great games. Fun for the whole family. Please see the attached flyers for more information and to reserve your tickets. Council Service Centers Closed Due to the current weather forecast, the Marlborough and Canton Service Centers will be closed on Monday, March 4th. Merit Badge University – Postponed In an abundance of caution, the Mayflower Council has postponed the Merit Badge University and the adult training classes being offered at the Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School on Saturday, March 2, 2019 due to weather conditions. While we share our participants’ obvious disappointment, the safety of our participants and staff is most important. Weather tracking has indicated there is an elevated risk for significant snowfall in the area of the event. In addition, driving conditions are expected to deteriorate with the snowfall. Both of these factors have influenced this difficult decision. Saturday, March 9th will follow our Day 1 schedule and Saturday, March 23rd will follow our Day 2 schedule.     2019 Silver Beaver Recipients The Silver Beaver Award is the council-level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America. The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self- sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. It is given to those who do not seek it. We are extremely proud of our 2019 Silver Beaver Award recipients. They are shining examples of Scouting service in our Council! Gary Bernklow – Silver Beaver Gary has been involved in Scouting for 45 years, joining Pack 39 Stow as a Cub Scout and earning both the “heavy shoulder” and the Arrow of Light. He crossed over to Troop 1 Stow and served as a patrol leader, senior patrol leader, and junior assistant Scoutmaster and earning his Eagle rank in 1984. He was also active with the Order of the Arrow during his time as a Scout, serving on the Taunkacoo executive board as a vice- chief and becoming a Vigil Honor Member of the lodge in 1983. He was a staff member at Camp Resolute for several years and attended National Camp School. Gary is a Lifetime Member of the Camp Resolute Alumni Association and served as the chair to the Resolute 100th Anniversary Camporee in the fall of 2019. Gary has served as an assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 1 since 1984 and has organized and led several high adventure trips for the troop to Maine, New York, Vermont, Montana (4 times), Wyoming, New Mexico, California, and is currently in the planning stages for a trip to Colorado for the summer of 2020.

    2021 National Venturing Leadership Award Congratulations to the nine recipients of the 2021 National Venturing Leadership Award. Two of the 9 award recipients are from the Mayflower Council. We could not be more proud of your accomplishments. Two shining examples of leadership. Ian currently serves as Northeast Region Venturing President. He has been a voice of calm and reason through many Venturing changes and proposed changes. Invites others into helping to push forward through difficult times. Samantha currently serves as National Venturing Vice President. She is an outstanding role model and leader to all of the regional vice presidents, enabling them to work effectively with each other in order to be successful and provide collaboration on projects. She has worked with the National Venturing Committee to develop a fall recruitment campaign. Read More Update to Webelos Uniform Transition Plan Last week, we communicated that the Webelos uniform will undergo a rolling change for fourth and fifth grade Webelos (effective for the 2021-2022 Scouting year). Please note the decision has been made to hold off on this planned change until further notice. Any updates (if any) to uniform requirements will be communicated in future newsletters. Awards Highlight The BSA offers numerous awards to recognize the accomplishments of Scouts and Scouters. Some are much better known than others. Some of the lesser known awards include: Founders Bar: Worn by youth and adults who are founding members of a new unit. National Den Award: Recognizes Cub Scout dens for having a quality, year-round program. National Medal for Outdoor Achievement: Earned by members of Scouts BSA, Sea Scouting, and Venturing who excel in high- level outdoor activities.
