“Amicitia et consortio bona”

Cranbrook & District Probus Club Introduction The Club exists to provide a regular meeting point for retired professional and busi- nessmen, particularly for those who would appreciate and value, in their retirement, increased social contacts and the opportunity for meeting others in similar circum- stances. The Club normally meets for lunch on the second Monday of each month, at 12.15 for 12.45 in The Bull, The Street, , TN17 4DE (Tel : 01580 240 054). This is a comfortable and friendly meeting place, providing excellent food and drink, with a car available. A charge of £17 is made for the lunch. Speakers are usually engaged for an after-lunch talk on various interesting and topical subjects. Attendance at the monthly meetings is encouraged and expected, and members should therefore inform the Hon. Treasurer, Dick Hill1, by no later than the Friday before the meeting date if they are unable to attend, or if they wish to bring a guest2, so that catering and seating arrangements can be made. In the event of sudden illness, cancellation can still be made until 18:00 on the Sunday preceding the meeting. Failure to provide notice of non-attendance can result in the cost of the meal being charged. Occasional social activities are also arranged at which spouses, partners & friends are also welcome. There is no joining fee, but an annual fee is charged, currently £15, payable on joining and then at the commencement of each Club year in April. The Club is run by a Committee, the Officers and members of which are listed both on page 3 of this Handbook and on the website : • http://cdpc.co.uk/ • Username: Probus (required only for the secure area of the site) • Password: this will be notified to members via e-mail; please contact the Mem- bership Secretary3 if you need to know it and cannot find the relevant e-mail. The Annual General Meeting of the Club is held in April of each year, when the Officers and Committee members are elected. All members are eligible to stand for a vacancy on the committee. The information contained in this Handbook is necessarily brief, but the website contains all the information you are likely to require. If you require any further information, or if you are unable to find what you need online, please contact the Hon. Secretary4. 1 Tel : 01580 240 157; e-mail: [email protected] 2 The cost of the guest's meal must initially be borne by the member who invites him, but this will be re-imbursed in full if the guest subsequently joins the Club. 3 Tel : 01726 891 775; e-mail: [email protected] 4 Tel : 01580 211 814; e-mail: [email protected]
