Metabolic pathways usually are common between archaea and bacteria. Diazotrophs are categorized into two main groups namely: root- nodule bacteria and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria. Diazotrophs include free living bacteria, such as Azospirillum , Cupriavidus , and some sulfate reducing bacteria, and symbiotic diazotrophs such Rhizobium and Frankia . Three types of nitrogenase are iron and molybdenum (Fe/Mo), iron and vanadium (Fe/V) or iron only (Fe). The Mo-nitrogenase have a higher specific activity which is expressed better when Molybdenum is available. The best hosts for Rhizobium legumiosarum are Pisum , Vicia , Lathyrus and Lens ; Trifolium for Rhizobium trifolii ; Phaseolus vulgaris , Prunus angustifolia for Rhizobium phaseoli ; Medicago, Melilotus and Trigonella for Rhizobium meliloti ; Lupinus and Ornithopus for Lupini, and Glycine max for Rhizobium japonicum . Termites have significant key role in soil ecology, transporting and mixing soil. Termite gut microbes supply the enzymes required to degrade plant polymers, synthesize amino acids, recycle nitrogenous waste and fix atmospheric nitrogen.

  • Stored Grain Insects and Pea Weevil (Live)  Insects Large – Dead Or Alive
To whom it may concern, Proposal for GTA Standards change regarding Cereal grains for categories: Stored Grain Insects and Pea Weevil (live) Insects Large – dead or alive Currently there is a lack of reference with insects of NIL tolerance applied by DA for export and that listed within GTA standards. This has the potential to cause contract disputes especially in the grower direct to port transactions. At present if a supplier delivers grain with live insects for example Small-eyed flour beetles and Black fungus beetles, there is no reference in the standards that declare such insects as NIL tolerance. If the buyer was loading a container direct for export this would pose a problem due to the NIL tolerance being applied by DA for export phytosanitary requirements. These insects are in the same category as Psocids which are listed in GTA receival standards. I would like to see the GTA "Stored Grain Insects and Pea Weevil (live)" & "Insects Large – dead or alive" reflect the Department of Agriculture PEOM 6a: Pests, Diseases and Contaminants of Grain and Plant Products (excluding horticulture) http://www.agriculture.gov.au/SiteCollectionDocuments/aqis/exporting/plants-exports-operation-manual/vol6A.pdf I put forward the motion to have all major and minor injurious pests listed within PEOM 6a that apply to cereal grains to be of NIL tolerance within the GTA standards. 1) This would involve moving the Hairy Fungus Beetle Typhaea stercorea from “Insects Large – dead or alive” to the list of “Stored Grain Insects and Pea Weevil (live)”. Thus taking it from a tolerance level of 3 per half litre to NIL.

The present work represents the first part of a series of papers studying the type material of the New World Scarabaeinae deposited in all major museums of the world. The main goals of this series are to locate the whereabouts of those types, designate, when appropriate, lectotypes and neotypes, and illustrate those speci- mens and their labels so that it will be possible for anyone interested to identify species already described and recognize new ones. As a start to this series, we present information on and illustrate the type material of the nominal species- group taxa proposed by the German entomologist Adolf Schmidt in the genus Canthon Hoffmannsegg, 1817, in two papers published in 1920 and 1922. Deposited in five European museums (Berlin, Dresden, Müncheberg, Brussels, and Stock- holm), we were able to find the type specimens of all but one of the 51 names firstly established as new species or new varieties by Schmidt. Of these 50 names, we designate lectotypes for 38. Schmidt also proposed three nominal species in Canthon as replacement names – C.

Current address: 8920 South Bryerly Ct., Hereford, AZ 85615, U.S.A. ABSTRACT This article presents both ethnoentomological notes on Nahuatl and Mixtec language terms as they are applied to Cerambycidae (Coleoptera) and distributional records for species collected during three projects carried out in the states of Guerrero and Puebla, Mexico. Some comparative data from other Mesoamerican and Native American languages are discussed. Indigenous common names are mapped onto current taxonomic nomenclature, and an analysis is offered of the logical basis for Indigenous classification: the exclusion of some cerambycids and the inclusion of other beetles in the nominal native “cerambycid” category. New state distributional records for the Cerambycidae collected in this study are offered for Guerrero: Bebelis picta Pascoe, Callipogon senex Dupont, Neocompsa macrotricha Martins, Olenosus ser- rimanus Bates, Ornithia mexicana zapotensis Tippmann, Stenygra histrio Audinet-Serville, Strongylaspis championi Bates, Lissonotus flavocinctus puncticollis Bates, and Nothopleurus lobigenis Bates; and Puebla: Juiaparus mexicanus (Thomson), Ptychodes guttulatus Dillon and Dillon, and Steirastoma senex White. Key Words: linguistics, etymology, Nahuatl, Mixtec, longhorned beetle, wood-borer DOI.org/10.1649/0010-065X-71.2.301 The present article emerges from two language shapes.

  • A Revision and Phylogenetic Analysis of Trichrous
A revision and phylogenetic analysis of Trichrous Chevrolat 1858, and a review of Plectocerum Dejean 1835 (Coleoptera:Cerambycidae:Elaphidiini) by Kelvin Antonio Guerrero A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Entomology Montana State University © Copyright by Kelvin Antonio Guerrero (2001) Abstract: Trichrous Chevrolat was found to be polyphyletic, with 17 named forms belonging to 2 tribes, 5 lineages, and 15 species. Three species are recognized in the redefined elaphidiine genus Trichrous: T. irroratus (Olivier), T. jaegeri Chevrolat, and T. nigripes Fisher. The monophyly of Trichrous sensu nov. is supported by synapomorphies of the hypomeron punctation (relative to disc) and pronotal shape. The relationship between the included species was hypothesized as [[T irroratus, T nigripes] T jaegeri]. This monophyletic genus is endemic to Hispaniola. Trichrous bicolor Fisher (not Salle) is placed under T. jaegeri Chevrolat as a NEW SYNONYMY. Poeciloderma lineolatus White and T pilipennis Chevrolat are moved to Plectocerum Dejean as P. lineolatum (White) NEW COMBINATION and P. pilipenne (Chevrolat) NEW COMBINATION. Eleven names are provisionally removed to the heteropsine genus Heterops: Mallosoma bicolor Salle, Poeciloderma terminalis White, Poeciloderma basalis White, T brevicomis Zayas, T. dimidiatipennis Chevrolat, T. divisus Chevrolat, T. jamaicensis Chevrolat, T. major Gahan, T. prasinus Cazier and Lacey, T. violaceipennis Fisher, and T. vittatus Fisher are now treated as H. bicolor (Salle) NEW COMBINATION, H. terminalis (White) NEW COMBINATION, H. basalis (White) NEW COMBINATION, H. brevicomis (Zayas) NEW COMBINATION, H. dimidiatipennis (Chevrolat) NEW COMBINATION, H. divisus (Chevrolat) NEW COMBINATION, H. major (Gahan) NEW COMBINATION, H. prasinus (Cazier and Lacey) NEW COMBINATION, H.
