Thank You for Supporting BCIT Students Donor Funded Awards BCIT donors provide financial support for students entering and graduating from BCIT, as well as during their training. Donor gifts to fund scholarships, bursaries and awards are instrumental in helping students complete their education every year. Whether recognizing student achievement or providing much needed financial assistance, all awards make a positive difference to the lives of the recipients. Award Types Listed below are the various types of awards that a prospective donor may choose to establish. Please note that not all award types are available for all BCIT programs. Entrance Awards Numerous BCIT Entrance Awards are available for students entering an eligible full-time BCIT program. Students wishing to apply for an Entrance Awards must complete a BCIT Entrance Award application available from the BCIT Student Financial Aid and Awards Office. Academic Awards Based on marks only, these awards are presented to students who achieve the highest academic standing during the first and final terms of their eligible program of studies. Students must have carried a 100% course load and are identified by the BCIT Student Financial Aid & Awards office through a computer generated, ranked list of marks. Students do not apply for academic awards. They are presented annually at a formal BCIT awards ceremony. Achievement Awards Based on first or final term performance, these awards are presented to students during first or final year who have received outstanding marks in specific eligible courses or who have demonstrated a combination of high academic standing, leadership, service and/or all-round achievement. Students are nominated for these awards by faculty – no application is required. They are presented annually at a formal BCIT awards ceremony. Bursaries A bursary is a non-repayable award granted to a student who is in financial need and who is progressing satisfactorily in their eligible, full-time BCIT program. To be considered for a bursary a student must meet the eligibility criteria and submit an application form by the appropriate deadline (see the BCIT Student Financial Aid & Awards website for details and bursary application form). Scholarships Based on first-year performance, scholarships are presented to full-time technology students who received the highest averages in the first year of their eligible program and are entering second year. Students must have carried a 100 per cent course load in both levels of their first year. Presentations are made at BCIT’s annual November Scholarship ceremonies. These awards are automatic with no application required. First Year Achievement Awards Based on first-year performance, achievement awards are presented to full-time students entering second year of eligible programs who received outstanding marks in specific first-year courses or who have demonstrated a combination of high academic standing, leadership, service and/or all-round performance. Presentations are made at BCIT’s annual November Scholarship ceremonies. Students are nominated for these awards by faculty. No application is required. Graduating Awards Graduating Awards sponsored by private organizations and individuals are presented annually to students who achieve the highest academic standing in the final two academic levels of their program of studies. Students must have carried a 100 per cent course load in both levels and are identified through a computer generated, ranked list of marks. Students do not apply for these awards. All academic award winners also receive a medallion. The awards are presented annually at BCIT’s June Graduating Awards Ceremony. Graduating Achievement Awards Graduating Achievement Awards are presented to students who receive outstanding marks in specific, eligible second year courses who have demonstrated a combination of high academic standing (minimum 65% GPA), leadership, service and/or all-round achievement. Students do not apply for these awards; they are nominated by the program faculty. Awards are presented annually at BCIT’s June and February Graduating Awards Ceremony. ABBARCH Architecture Inc. An achievement award is presented to a graduate of BCIT’S Architectural & Building Engineering Technology who will be entering the Architectural Science degree program. ABSOLUTE An achievement award is presented to a graduate of Marketing Management – Professional Sales Option. ACKLANDS-Grainger Inc. An annual bursary established in 2014 for a full-time eligible student in the Professional Sales option of the Marketing Management program in financial need. ACME Analytical Laboratories (Vancouver) Ltd. A first year achievement award and a graduating award are presented to students in the Chemical & Environmental Technology program. ADVERTISING Agency Association of BC An endowment established in 2009 with matching funds from BCIT. The annual interest provides an award to recognize the first year achievements of a student enrolled in BCIT’s Marketing Communications program. The AAABC is a non-profit advertising industry association. Its member agencies are responsible for producing some of Canada's most successful, recognized and awarded campaigns. AIR CANADA PILOTS ASSOCIATION ALBERTA Land Surveyors’ Foundation A first year achievement award is presented to a student in the Geomatic Engineering Technology. ALGOMA Central Corporation Awards Two graduating achievement awards established in 2011 for students in the Nautical and Marine Engineering Programs. Bettie (E.C.) ALLARD Memorial An endowment established in 2005 by The Highbury Foundation in memory of the mother of Highbury president, Peter Allard. The annual interest provides a bursary to a student in any BCIT degree program with first preference given to a sole support parent and second preference to any student enrolled in an eligible degree program. AMERICAN Concrete Institute, BC Chapter An award is presented to Civil Engineering student based on achievement in first year of the program, who has indicated an interest in the concrete or related industry. AMERICAN Industrial Hygiene Association BC/Yukon Section An achievement award is presented to a graduate of Occupational Health and Safety. AMERICAN Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers, BC Chapter (ASHRAE) Awards are presented to students based on achievement in first year and at graduation from the Mechanical Systems Technology program, who are also a member of ASHRAE. ASQ Vancouver Quality and Business Excellence Student Award An achievement award is presented to a graduating student based on achievement in the Quality Management Option of BCIT’s Business Operations Management Technology. AMES Tile & Stone Ltd. A bursary established in 2012 to support a student in financial need enrolled full time in the BCIT Interior Design Diploma Program. AMPCO Grafix An annual award established in 2015. Ampco Grafix specializes in the design, manufacturing, and installation of wide format, screen printed, and digitally printed graphics for buildings, media, fleet vehicles, and special events. APEGBC (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC) Established in 2011, in-term awards and a graduating achievement award are available. The in-term award is available to a student in Level 3 through 6 in the Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering program or the Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering program. The graduating achievement awards recognize top students in the Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, and Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering classes. ASSOCIATION of Women in Finance Astoria Boxing Club, George Angelomatis Memorial Bursary Auto Skills Organizing Committee Endowment This endowment was established in January 2012 by the British Columbia Automotive Association. The interest earned will provide a bursary to full time students in the Automotive Foundation Program who are in financial need. Brian ANDERSON Memorial An endowment established in 2002. The annual interest provides an achievement award for a graduate of the Computer Systems Technology - Technical Programming option. Brian Anderson was program head in Computer Systems - Technical Programming who passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 13 at the age of 52. During his many years at BCIT, Brian was proud of his students' accomplishments. The program faculty and his wife, Barbara, are committed to ensuring that all students in the program will continue to receive the quality of training worthy of his memory through the creation, by Barbara, of the Brian Anderson Memorial Fund at BCIT. Brigitte ANDERSON A one-time only first year achievement award established in 2014 by Ms. Brigitte Anderson. This award is available to a student full-time student entering second year of the BCIT Broadcast & Media – Television Production program who received outstanding marks in specific first-year courses or who have demonstrated a combination of high academic standing, leadership, service and/or all-round performance. ANDREW Sheret Limited A bursary established in 2006 as the company entered its 114th year in business in British Columbia is available to a student in the Piping Program. Mark ANGELO Awards Endowment The Mark Angelo Endowment Fund was established in 2013. It was funded principally by the Real Estate Foundation of BC, alumni,
