Our Time Here

We moved here from Epsom, in Surrey, in 2004. We came to see the house and visit the area and it was just an instant thing. Sometimes you instantly know – it just seemed right. It’s a lovely house. It’s quirky and has some interesting features: exposed wooden beams; the garden; the fact there’s plenty of space for the children; a driveway with electric gates. A barn conversion, the upstairs has a slanted roof. It’s just a good environment, a good family home.

The two main bedrooms lead out onto the garden, which is wonderful in the summer. You can see the sun coming up and you can sit out there with your cup of tea and have your breakfast. And it’s so quiet. You don’t get any noise whatsoever. Plus, it’s a little community here – you’re quite secure. Everybody looks out for everybody.

My favourite room is definitely the living room, which is very airy and spacious, and the conservatory. Once you open up the French doors into the conservatory, it effectively becomes one room. I use the conservatory for reading and relaxing, and it’s particularly pleasant in the summer. We also have the heated swimming pool. We’ve had friends and family over for many a party, with hog roasts in the back garden. We’ve had some very fun times here.

I’m building my own home. That’s the only reason I’m moving. I’m a property developer and I have a piece of land near Broadstairs, for which I have some grand designs – the programme is an inspiration to me. I’ll miss this house, but not too much, I hope, because I’ll do such a good job of the house I’m creating.
