Founded in 1997, BookFinder.com has become a leading book price comparison site: Find and compare hundreds of millions of new books, used books, rare books and out of print books from over 100,000 booksellers and 60+ websites worldwide. When Shadows Turned to Night: The Motor City Thriller Series Finale by Therese Szymanski. When the Dancing Stops This is advertised as a different kind of lesbian mystery, and it is. Then again, most of them are different kinds. Brett Higgins is a young woman from the wrong side of the river in Detroit, who manages to work her way up to becoming the manager of a sleazy porn operation that has sidelines in drugs, lap dancing, and intimidation. She is as butch as they come, and fearless. She also has a taste for 17-year-old baby dykes. If Brett doesn't seem like a very sympathetic character it’s because she isn't. And if the setting seems gritty and unappealing, it’s because it is. It’s hard not to get the feeling that Szymanski is making it as difficult as she can for the reader to like Brett and her job—and also that she seems to enjoy making the reader squirm. Well, an old professor of mine once told me that just because a certain book might not be to your liking doesn't mean it’s not good. I've never quite agreed, but in this case, she might have a point. For one thing, the author’s use of roving third-person point of view is one of the best I have seen—it may even be considered omniscient, which is the hardest POV to work with. The reader may experience what is going through the minds of several characters, but you are never confused about who is thinking. She also limits herself to the points of view of only the important characters—which might seem a no-brainer, but evidently is not. The book is tough and honest and gives us a view of a world we rarely see in lesbian mysteries--or anywhere. The problem is, though, I just don’t like Brett Higgins. The fact that she can get any lover she desires irks me, but I know enough about human nature to realize that this is not even that implausible. Many of my friends have gone off with people that I can’t for the life of me respect. It happens. But when she gets the hots for Allie Sullivan I can only watch with dismay, because Allie is one of the only halfway sympathetic characters in the book. I watch the relationship unfold with the eyes of a disapproving mother. The book has twist after twist and a fairly surprising ending. Yet the climactic scene is not rendered very clearly and is improbable and forced. Yet none of this really maters—most denouements in mysteries are implausible, and we know which way this one is going to go anyway, even if the author has to transform the personalities of all the main characters midway through the book for it to happen. Everybody ends up questioning their life choices at the same time. Well, call it growth if you like. As an intellectual, I would give this book a 3.5 or a little higher. As a reader, less than 3. As Allie’s mother, I am going to have to call my lawyer and have a new will drawn up. I’m sure it would be interesting to see if the book has changed much since it was published by Bella, and to see how Brett fares in the next book under different circumstances. But I fear I am going to have to learn these things second hand. sandra bullock. SPOTLIGHT ON 2012 FOREIGN FILMS: MEXICAN EPIC "FOR GREATER GLORY" WITH ANDY GARCIA, EVA LONGORIA, PETER O'TOOLE, SWEEPING KOREAN EPIC "MY WAY", GLORIOUS EPIC "WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW" O'Toole, Andy Garcia, Eva Longoria, Bruce Greenwood, Nestor Carbonell, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Oscar Isaac, Eduardo Verastegui. .. The story of this stunning and touching epic drama revolves around the Cristeros War from the 1920's which started after a rebellion over the Mexican government's 1917 attempt to remove the influence of the Catholic Church and secularize the country. The film is directed by Dean Wright (in his directorial debut, he is known as a visual effects expert who worked on LORD OF THE RINGS and CHRONICLES OF NARNIA) and the music is composed by the best among the best - James Horner (TITANIC, AVATAR)! Tatsuo Hasegawa both find themselves in the Japanese army, fighting the Chinese and Soviets in a bloody battle. Jun-shik is there under duress, while Tatsuo is a powerful colonel. After both are taken prisoner by the Soviets, their mutual hatred and mistrust boils over into a violence that is only stopped by the continuing horror of the war. Forced to fight for the Soviets, the two eventually rely on each other for survival, making it to Germany, where they are in turn separated and forced to fight for the Nazis. They meet again at Normandy Beach, both unlikely survivors, bonded together by history as they struggle to survive one more terrible battle as the Allies arrive on D-Day. The cast includes Asian stars Dong-gun Jang, Jo Odagiri and Bingbing Fan . When Shadows Turned to Night: The Motor City Thriller Series Finale by Therese Szymanski. has left ARTHUR & LANCELOT epic due to scheduling conflict, just when the film was supposed to get back on track, and now MOTOR CITY has been left without Jake Gyllenhaal , who before that replaced Dominic Cooper . But unlike the above mentioned epic this one at least has a solution for the lead role and a worthy one: according to "Variety" Scotland's favourite Gerard Butler will take the lead in MOTOR CITY , an ex-con who goes on a quest for vengeance against the men who framed him and sent him to prison. The cast will be also supported with Gary Oldman in the villain role and Amber Heard in the female lead. Although the plot doesn't sound overly interesting currently, the script was on the famous Black List back in 2009, the list of most promising and intriguing movie scripts. Friday, March 30, 2012. "GARLIC & SAPPHIRES" GETS A FILM. ASCENDING which plot is still kept under wraps but according to the latest news Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis have been offered the lead roles in it. As you know, Channing Tatum is currently a hot good in Hollywood since he had two huge blockbusters back to back THE VOW and now 21 JUMP STREET. The Wachowski's have recently finished their current project CLOUD ATLAS the intricate and complex movie featuring six intertwining story lines set in a different times and places that become intricately related to each other, with actors playing roles in each time. The stories span from the 19th Century to a post apocalyptic 22nd Century. The cast of the film is rather big and filled with well known names from Tom Hanks, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Grant, Jim Sturgess and Ben Whishaw , to Susan Sarandon, James D'Arcy, Jim Broadbent , Halle Berry. Tuesday, March 27, 2012. ED SPELEERS JOINS "DOWNTON ABBEY"! CATE BLANCHETT TO DIRECT HER 1ST FILM "THE TURNING"! MATTHEW MACFADYEN IN "RIPPER STREET"! FABULOUS TRAILER FOR SERBIAN BLOCKBUSTER "LOVELESS ZORITSA" cast as a footman named Jimmy. You already know that Shirley MacLaine has signed on to join the third season of the show, which is currently in production, as mother to Elizabeth McGovern ’s Cora Grantham and a foil for Maggie Smith ’s irrepressible Dowager Countess. We remember Ed Speleers mostly for his brilliant role in ERAGON, but for some reason his rival in the film, Garrett Hedlund has scored a bigger success later on in Hollywood even though his role was clearly weaker in the epic fantasy movie from 2006. Speleers will appear this year in horror comedy LOVE BITE about a werewolf who prays only on virgins (I kid you not, that's the plot) alongside another stunner Luke Pasqualino (THE BORGIAS) who recently hid his pride and joy from us with a towel :) Monday, March 26, 2012.

‘CHRISTMAS IN CANAAN’ PRODUCTION BIOS MARGARET LOESCH (Executive Producer) – Margaret A. Loesch is the co-founder and former CEO of the The Hatchery LLC, a family entertainment company launched in 2003 with partner and former Co-CEO Bruce Stein and investor/partners Peter Guber and Paul Schaeffer. Loesch transitioned from The Hatchery to the recently formed Hasbro/Discovery Joint-Venture Network as its President and Chief Executive Officer. Loesch remains an integral part of the company, serving as an active board member. Concurrent with launching The Hatchery with Stein, in 2002-2003 Loesch raised the financing, produced, and in 2004 distributed, the fifth movie in the Benji franchise, “Benji Off the Leash,” with creator/director Joe Camp. From September 1998 until October of 2001, Loesch was the first President and Chief Executive Officer of Crown Media United States and its U. S. Hallmark Channel, having built and launched that channel after first restructuring and strengthening its predecessor, the U. S. cable channel Odyssey. Previously, she was President of the Jim Henson Television Group, Worldwide. During her tenure, she supervised the development and production of the award-winning “Bear in the Big Blue House” and served as its Executive Producer. While with Henson, Loesch played a key role in the 1998 acquisition of the Liberty Media-owned Odyssey Channel, which was acquired by the Jim Henson Company and Hallmark Entertainment. At the request of Odyssey’s consortium of partners, Loesch moved over to helm that cable channel, and is credited with building its programming strategy and ratings, forging a new management infrastructure, and establishing an enduring foundation for the Hallmark Channel, which she subsequently launched in 2001, replacing the Odyssey programming service.

1 4 The Tudors and the post-national, post-historical Henry VIII Basil Glynn The Tudors (2007–10) is a prime example of a relatively new type of post-national and post-historical television series that has become an established global alter- native to BBC costume drama. Drawing on international rather than specif- ically British ideals of nationhood, it often runs counter to received history 1 while the use of computer-generated imagery (CGI) gives it a contemporary rather than historical aesthetic. It also constitutes, as Ramona Wray contends, ‘an extraordinarily detailed take on the reign’ 2 of Henry VIII and is ‘with a total of thirty-eight episodes and a combined running time of almost thirty-fi ve hours’, as Sue Parrill and William B. Robinson observe, ‘by far the longest fi lmic event ever to deal with the Tudor dynasty’. 3 SCREENING HENRY BEFORE THE TUDORS As England’s most famous (or infamous) monarch, Henry VIII has featured prominently throughout the history of British national cinema, and his vari- ous on-screen incarnations could be argued to have revealed much about Britain and its national character. Raymond Durgnat famously suggested that national cinema serves as a window onto the society from which it arises 4 and Deborah Cartmell and I. Q. Hunter, considering British historical drama as such a window, claim that it has long been obsessed with periods associated with national greatness such as the Tudor, Jacobean and Victorian eras. The per- sistent representation of such eras, they argue, refl ects ‘both a British desire
