Paul Henderson Paul Henderson Paul Henderson scored “THE GOAL”. If you are a Canadian hockey fan, that’s all you need to say to describe Paul Henderson. On September 28, 1972, Paul scored this fabled goal with 34 seconds left in final game of an eight game series between Canada and the USSR to allow Canada to lay claim to victory in the series. Unbelievably, Paul scored the winning goal for Canada in each of the last three games of the series, must- win games for Canada to win this historical battle. Paul started his NHL career in Detroit with the Red Wings before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a blockbuster deal. He jumped to the WHA’s Toronto Toros in 1974 who became the Birmingham Bulls and finished his playing career back in the NHL with the Atlanta Flames. In his post-playing career, Paul has developed into one of the top motivational speakers anywhere. Of course, hockey stories are a part of his presentations and Paul draws analogies from the competitive hockey world to the competitive business world. Teamwork, leadership, goals, and hard work all have their place in both worlds. Paul masterfully illustrates his points through these comparisons. Everyone wants to meet the man who scored “THE GOAL” ! Paul and his wife Eleanor both speak to church groups and share their faith. Interesting, his book titled “The Goal of My Life” while seemingly about hockey, is really about his personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Sports Celebrity Marketing S.C.M. Whitten became the first to pick up a victory for Toledo on October 30, 1993, replacing an injured Alain Harvey at the beginning of the second period and stopping 15 of 19 shots in a 6-5 win over Dayton. Rheaume became the first female ECHL goalie to start and win a game on November 6, 1993 when she made 32 saves for Knoxville in a 9-6 victory over Johnstown. Knoxville captured its second Brabham Cup as regular season champions but were upset by Louisville in the first round of the playoffs, just as they were in 1990-91 when they finished first overall.

  • Paul Terbenche You Don't Have to Be Big! Paul Terbenche Was One of an Impressive Number of Professional Hockey Players to Come from Port Hope
National Hockey League Paul Terbenche You Don't Have to be Big! Paul Terbenche was one of an impressive number of professional hockey players to come from Port Hope. Like most of the others, he played his early hockey in the area, but unlike most of them he played for two major professional hockey leagues, the World Hockey Association (WHA) and the National Hockey League (NHL). In 1963-64 Terbenche played defence for the Junior “B” Ingersoll Marlands, and the next two years for the Junior “A” St. Catharines Black Hawks. In 1966 he moved up to the St. Louis Braves of the Central Pro League. His introduction to the big stage came in the 1967-68 season when he played 68 games with the Chicago Black Hawks, only to be back in the minors for the next two seasons. His small stature, standing just 5’10” and weighing 170 pounds, will have been a factor. In 1970 the Bualo Sabres claimed Terbenche in the expansion draft, but he served mostly in the minors until 1972. From 1972 to 1974 he played 109 games with the Sabres before he made the move to the Vancouver Blazers in the rival World Hockey Association. The WHA was formed to challenge the monopoly of the NHL and began play in 1972 with twelve teams. At that time sixty-seven players jumped from the NHL to the WHA, led by star forward Bobby Hull. Terbenche played for five dierent WHA Terbenche's statistics in the two professional leagues teams, including the Vancouver Blazers, combined include: 504 games, 123 points and 112 Calgary Cowboys, Birmingham Bulls, Houston penalty minutes.
