July 6 - 10, 2020 1 Welcome to the 2020 Quilter’S Affair Class & Event Guide! July 6 - 10, 2020 1 Welcome to the 2020 Quilter’s Affair Class & Event Guide! Thank you to all who visited the Stitchin’ Post, in person or online, and to all who attended Quilter’s Affair and the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show last year. It is always a pleasure to see familiar faces and a joy to make new friends. You honor us with your patronage, and we treasure you. We are hard at work preparing for a fantastic Quilter’s Affair 2020. My staff and I strive to make your experience positive and we listen to your suggestions for improvements. As part of that, we are happy to debut a new website and registration process. New website features include: searching classes by teacher or day, teacher pages with bios and classes, cart hold, and easy navigation to all the information you need. We have added a worksheet to this guide to help you plan your visit (see p. 48). This year, lunches will be provided by Melvin’s, our local market–their food is outstanding, and we think you will love it. Thank you for all of your suggestions and your patience, as we strive to create a special experience for you. 2020 will bring back lots of our favorite teachers and some new faces. We have some special guests from Egypt, The Tent Makers of Cairo, coming to teach Egyptian appliqué all week long, as well as Jenny Bowker from Australia. They are the special event program for the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show on Wednesday night. You won’t want to miss it. Quilter’s Affair offers more opportunity for education than any other textile art event in Oregon, and workshops abound throughout the year at Stitchin’ Post. Education is the foundation of our business! We welcome you to check our website frequently and subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date on all our workshops and events. You may subscribe online at https://mailchi.mp/stitchinpost.com/signup We look forward to seeing you this summer, if not before, and invite you to stop by the Stitchin’ Post anytime you are in Sisters, where we are very busy writing orders for new products that will fill the store to the brim by July! The Godey Quilt: One Woman’s Dream Becomes a Reality Sandra Staebell The Godey Quilt is a 1930s appliqué quilt composed of fifteen fabric portraits of men and women clothed in fashionable mid-nineteenth century attire. The dream of Mildred Potter Lissauer (1897−1998) of Louisville, Kentucky, this textile is a largely original design that is not representative of the majority of American quilts made during the early 1930s. Notable for the beauty and quality of its workmanship, the quilt’s crafting was, in part, a response to the competitive spirit that reigned in quiltmaking at the time. Significantly, the survival of the materials that document its conception, design, and construction enhances its significance and can be used to create a timeline of its creation. Reflecting Colonial Revival concepts and imagery, the Godey Quilt is a remarkable physical expression of that era.

The planning for the quilt show was already in full swing at this time, resulting in the Sport with best ever show in March 2017. Lee Schulstad and Caroline Cory co-chaired the show Jenny K. committee and did an excellent job combining three talented guest artists with a Lyon number of inspiring group exhibits. The winner of the Opportunity Quilt was also drawn, under the stewardship of Sylvie Marquet. Sylvie was unexpectedly thrust into the role of coordinator and rose to the challenge, also planning and organising what will be our 2018–19 quilt. The show brought more than $10,000 of profit to the guild but the real value lies in the opportunity it has brought to our members and the November & December community we belong to. meetings in 2017 While our big events, the show and QuiltAway, are easy to focus on, in January we second held our 35th Anniversary Dinner, organised by our historian Jeanie Low and her are on the committee.
