It has 158 member schools which enrol over 70,000 students; accounting for over 16% of Western Australian school enrolments. As a sector, Independent schools are diverse in nature. They provide for students of all abilities and all social and ethnic backgrounds. They provide quality schooling for a wide range of communities, including some of Western Australia’s most remote and disadvantaged Indigenous communities, communities in regional towns and diverse communities in Perth. Many member schools espouse a religious or values‐based education, while others promote a particular educational philosophy. They are all registered through the Office of Non‐Government Education. Member schools of the Association are not‐for‐profit and are governed independently. Alberta Camp Meeting Camp Meeting Alberta 15- 23, 2016 July Ephesians 3:7 (NIV) Message from the President Welcome to Alberta Camp Meeting 2016! When Paul wrote to the Ephesians, he commented, “I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace…” (Ephesians 3:7), hence the theme, “Servant of Grace.” Healthy leadership is a core value our Conference embraces and Scripture is full of examples. Noah demonstrates leaders persist in doing right even if they have to stand alone, Joseph proved good leaders endure in spite of diffi culties, Moses validates that leaders accept counsel, Deborah displayed a willingness to come along side of her peo- ple when diffi cult tasks are to be accomplished, David exhibited incredible courage and Jesus reveals that a true leader is focused on serving rather than being served. Perhaps the greatest threat to healthy leadership is egotism. Lucifer, a talented leader in God’s universe succumbed to pride. It leads to self-exaltation, a desire to control and ma- Ken Wiebe President nipulation. Even Jesus’ disciples openly sought to be the greatest and Jesus reminded Alberta Conference them, “But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant” (Matthew 23:11). Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges in their book, Lead Like Jesus make this noteworthy statement, “Most of the leadership that shapes our lives does not come from leaders with titles or an organization chart; it comes from leaders in our daily life role relation- ships” (page 10).

Vanuatu Mission BARRY OLIVER Barry Oliver, Ph.D., retired in 2015 as president of the South Pacific Division of Seventh-day Adventists, Sydney, Australia. An Australian by birth Oliver has served the Church as a pastor, evangelist, college teacher, and administrator. In retirement, he is a conjoint associate professor at Avondale College of Higher Education. He has authored over 106 significant publications and 192 magazine articles. He is married to Julie with three adult sons and three grandchildren. The Vanuatu Mission is a growing mission in the territory of the Trans-Pacific Union Mission of the South Pacific Division. Its headquarters are in Port Vila, Vanuatu. Before independence the mission was known as the New Hebrides Mission. The Territory and Statistics of the Vanuatu Mission The territory of the Vanuatu Mission is “Vanuatu.”1 It is a part of, and reports to the Trans Pacific Union Mission which is based in Tamavua, Suva, Fiji Islands. The Trans Pacific Union comprises the Seventh-day Adventist Church entities in the countries of American Samoa, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. The administrative office of the Vanuatu Mission is located on Maine Street, Nambatu, Vila, Vanuatu. The postal address is P.O. Box 85, Vila Vanuatu.2 Its real and intellectual property is held in trust by the Seventh-day Adventist Church (Vanuatu) Limited, an incorporated entity based at the headquarters office of the Vanuatu Mission Vila, Vanuatu.     INTRODUCTION This curriculum framework is a brief statement that provides the foundational worldview from which an Adventist teacher delivers the Australian National Curriculum. It is a concise statement of principles, values and threads that undergird and guide what we consider to be real, true and good. This worldview is shaped and permeated with our belief that Jesus is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” John 14:6. We also believe strongly that each teacher must teach from within their own authentic Christian journey and that their experiential relationship with Jesus will permeate all they say and do. This framework endorses the notion that rather than being Christians who happen to teach, we are wanting to teach Christianly. We wish to reveal a God who loves unconditionally. “To think Christianly is to accept all things with the mind as related, directly or indirectly, to man’s eternal destiny as the redeemed and chosen child of God.” Harry Blamires, The Christian Mind: How Should a Christian Think? , p. 44 Teaching is more than imparting information. Effective Christian teaching is transformational. It will take Romans 12:1-2 as its focus and try to nurture a discipleship response to God’s love in the lives of our students. This provides the basis for the term “threads” used in the Values and Response Threads section. Threads are simply the qualities or characteristics we desire as responses from our students. They help provide cohesion and linkage to everyday living. These Response Threads, like Values, will often overlap in various subject areas, and provide a discipleship response to God’s love.

    Edinburgh College Character... through Nurture, Learning and Service Term 3 August 9, 2017 Year 1 Learn about Shapes Former Student Visits Edinburgh College Playdough and toothpicks were all that was needed to have a lot of Sandra Levers, a former student of the College (1974) was delighted fun reinforcing the topic of 2D and 3D shapes and objects. to return to Edinburgh College to speak to the Secondary students during Chapel. An Indigenous Australian from Kuranda in far north Queensland, Sandra took time to visit Edinburgh during the week she was in Melbourne teaching cultural awareness to medical profession- als. Sandra shared her story and was delighted to have her son, Radayn Tanna accompa- ny her on the visit. Radayn played the didgeridoo for Primary Chapel and led two sessions with the Primary students instructing them on throwing (and catching) boomerangs. Radayn has played the didgeridoo inter- nationally and has many paintings exhibited in galler- ies across Australia.
