On the mound, they are also going to blow by the record (156 in 1998), as they are on pace to give up 201HR.

Ain't Over 'Til It's Over Since the start of the 2014 season, no team has had more come from behind victories than the 199 posted by Columbus (24 this season) and no team has produced a better winning percentage when trailing than the .350 of the Clippers (Scranton/WB ranks 2nd in win percentage at .337 and Durham ranks 2nd in wins, 184).

Walk-Off Magic Columbus is 5-1 in walk-off games this season, winning four thanks to the courtesy runner in extra innings (Columbus pitching did not allow a run through first 9.0IP in extras this year; to date, 10.0IP, 1H, 0ER). On 6/29 at Louisville, they suffered their first walk-off loss of the year, snapping an 81 game streak without (previous loss was 5/31/18 at Buffalo; only two walk-off losses in last 135 road games). Additionally, the Clippers lead the IL with a 13-5 (.722) record in games decided in the last at bat.

Trending Downward While ranking in the middle of the IL with a 4.86ERA (8th), the Clippers currently have their worst mark since the 1983 season (5.08ERA, franchise worst). Last year, they ranked dead last in the IL with a 4.34ERA, marking the third straight season that the team ERA had gotten worse. From 2011-16, the Clipper staff turned in a sub-4.00ERA five times in six seasons (zero such seasons from 1993-2010), including the best two ERAs of the past 29 years (3.33 in 2015 and 3.65 in 2016).

Doing Damage On the season, the Clippers rank 4th in the IL with 91RBI with the bases loaded, while carrying a .259 average (7th, 29x112, 4HR). In each of the previous two seasons, the Clippers led the IL in RBI with the bases loaded (243RBI total) and paced the circuit in grand slams (16 total, no other team had more than eight).

Free Swingers After two straight seasons leading the IL in strikeouts, the Clipper lineup is atop the IL again this year (1,065K, 56 more than 2nd place). They are currently on pace to 1,434 times, a number that would obliterate the franchise record (1,297, set in 2017; 2018's total of 1,290 was 2nd worst in franchise history). On the season a Clipper has been punched out at least four times in a game on 14 occasions (Eric Haase leads the team with three golden sombreros).

That's More Like It On the year, the Clippers are 36-22 (.621) when playing errorless , while turning in a 24-22 (.522) mark with at least one error. Contrary to logic, in 2018 they actually had a worse winning percentage when playing mistake free (.514), than when committing at least one error (.530). The Clipper defense, currently 2nd in 2019 (.982), fell to 6th in the IL last year, ending a run of three consecutive seasons ranked among the top three (2015-17 resulted in the three best seasons in franchise history).

One On, No Out Success When the leadoff batter of an inning reaches base in 2019, the Clippers have been plating him over 60% of the time (over 51% only once in the last six seasons, 55% in 2016). Getting more than one base has been a specialty of Clipper hitters, as they lead the IL with 110XBH to lead off the inning, including 43HR (leads the IL, had 28 leadoff homers last season). From 4/13-4/20, the Clippers hit 16 leadoff doubles over 72 innings, including four straight innings in a win at Louisville on 4/15.

Good Baseball Manufacturing Runs Eric Stamets advanced a pair of runners with a bunt on 7/7 vs. Louisville and they came around to score in the 1-run win. On the year, Sacrifices the Clippers have struggled in the bunt department, but when the advanced runners have scored, they are 6-1. During 2018, Columbus Sac Bunt Success: 28% (10x36) was 23-2 in games in which a run was scored after a good bunt attempt, winning each of the last six (won 17 in a row from 4/12-7/31/18). Advanced Runners Scored: 9 Sacrifice Flies: 25 International Accolades Stolen Bases Bobby Bradley was named International League Player of the Month for May, reaching base in 24 of 25 games during the month while SB Success: 73% (80x110) hitting .302/.374/.740 with 12HR (led IL) and 28RBI. In May, Zach Plesac turned in 7.0IP in a win vs. Toledo on 5/23 and Peoples had 7.0IP the next night in a loss vs. Indianapolis. Asher Wojciechowski dominated in 7.0IP at Lehigh Valley on 6/15 and Peoples followed up with a win the next day (7.0IP).

Knocked Down: Heading into his 6/5 start, Peoples led the International League with a 3.22ERA (50.1IP, 18ER), almost two runs better than league average (4.99). He was then lit up to the tune of 10ER in his next 11.0IP, dropping all the way to 7th place at 4.11. He also dropped from among the top three in WHIP (1.21) to 9th (1.34) after those two starts. He currently ranks 9th in ERA and 12th in WHIP (of 18 qualified pitchers).

Out of the Pen: To start the season, Peoples was slated to pitch in relief following Cody Anderson, as Anderson worked his way back from 2017 right elbow surgery. However, Anderson was recalled to Cleveland on 4/13, pushing Peoples into the rotation. In his only relief appearance under that setup, 4/7 vs. Indianapolis (4.0IP, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 4K; 76 pitches), Peoples gave up a run in his opening frame, then fired three scoreless innings. Peoples then worked in relief for two of Adam Plutko's starts, as Plutko worked his way back from a strained right forearm (spring training injury). Following Plutko, Peoples allowed 4ER in 10.0IP (pitch counts of 78 and 56).

Month by Month: Through four April appearances, Peoples carried a 1.64ERA (22.0IP, 4ER), while allowing a line of .247/.315/.333 to 89 batters faced. In May, despite allowing a better OBP of .310, Peoples registered a 4.45ERA (28.1IP, 14ER), thanks to opponents hitting him at a .266 clip (.413SLG). Things got even worse in June, with a 6.43ERA (28.0IP, 20ER) and a line of .313/.370/.522, then that carried over into July with a 6.23ERA (21.2IP, 15ER) and line of .357/.378/.600.

Don't Try It: Of 18 pitchers in the IL with at least 80.0IP, only Pawtucket's Erasmo Ramirez (one attempt) has been run on fewer times than Peoples, as opponents have attempted only three steals when he has been on the hill (Toledo's Daz Cameron was successful on 6/5, Rochester's Jake Cave was caught by Eric Haase on 6/11, Scranton/WB's Tyler Wade was caught by Dioner Navarro on 7/17). Additionally, Peoples has two pickoffs to his credit in 2019 (prior to 2019, opponents had been successful on two of three steal attempts in 57.0IP as a Clipper, one pickoff).

2019 Transactions: - Placed on the Temporarily Inactive List on 5/29 (family illness). Activated on 6/3.

Last Season: Started the year with Akron... allowed 3ER (3-run HR) in 6.0IP at Altoona on 4/7, then registered a 0.34ERA (26.1IP, 13H, 2R, 1ER, 5BB, 21K) over next 5GS with Akron (4/13-6/14)... left game on 4/24 at Reading after taking a line drive off right foot... placed on the DL with a fractured right foot on 4/27... activated on 6/8, made a pair of starts and was sent to Columbus for the remainder of the season on 6/20... did not make it out of the 5th inning in any of 4GS with Columbus... removed from the game in the 1st inning on 7/5 vs. Toledo after suffering a right elbow injury... placed on the DL for the rest of the season on 7/6 (strained UCL, did not require surgery).
