WEST SENECA, NEW YORK Week of October 25. 2020 From the Desk of Jennifer Lang, Director of Faith Formation Be Today’s Gospel is the heart of the Christian life. I remember hearing a story about the Apostle St. John who was the only Apostle to not die a martyr. Rather, he lived to a very old age. At the end of his life, people would come to hear him preach. He always said, “Little children, love one another.” Finally, a person asked him, “Why do keep saying the same thing?” He replied, “That is what Jesus said to do.” There are so many things to accomplish in a day. There is a lot we want to do in our lifetimes. The only thing that Jesus requires of each of us is to love the people in our lives. Everything else is secondary. On Sunday, Grades K - 5 in the Faith Formation Program will gather at 10:00 a.m. to pray the Rosary. At the 10:30 a.m. Mass, the First Communion children will dedicate themselves to the Blessed Mary. Next week, November 1st, is the first family activity for Grades K - 5. The topic is All Saints’ Day. Jennifer Lang, Director of Faith Formation Email: [email protected]

St. Simon & St. Jude (Oct. 28th) St. Simon and St. Jude were Apos- tles who left all they had to follow Jesus. St. Simon was also known as “the Zealot” to distinguish him from St. Peter. St. Jude Thaddeus was a fisherman. In Scripture, he is called the brother of St. James, probably James the Lesser. Along with ten other men, Saints Simon and Jude followed Jesus, lived with Him, fled when He underwent his passion, and rejoined Him when He rose from the dead. At Pentecost they were filled with spirit and a burning desire to spread the Good News to all. Tradition holds that St. Jude traveled to Mesopotamia to preach, and St. Simon to Egypt. Both preached the Gospel in Persia, modern-day Iran, where they were martyred. Traditionally, St. is identified as the author of the Letter of Jude in the New Testa- ment, and has also come to be known as the of Hopeless Causes. Both names are prayed in Eu- charistic Prayer I. May they intercede for us! This Week at St. John’s LessonsSunday &Mass Carols.
