Autobau – the Hidden Gem
www.porscheroadandrace.com Autobau – the hidden gem Published: 6th April 2018 By: Martin Raffauf Online version: https://www.porscheroadandrace.com/autobau-the-hidden-gem/ The front door of Autobau, which is built inside a turn of the 20th century alcohol storage facility There is a collection of cars that every racing and car enthusiast should see. It is at the Autobau, located in Romanshorn, Switzerland. On the southern shore of Lake Constance, the Autobau is easily accessible by train (it is located right next to the Romanshorn main train station) and is close to Zurich. It is also easily reached via lake steamer from www.porscheroadandrace.com Friedrichshafen Germany. (From L-R) Martin Raffauf, the author, with Autobau hosts and tour guides, Fredy Lienhard Sr and Fredy Lienhard Jr Autobau was originally Fredy Lienhard’s idea, the Swiss Industrialist and auto racer for many years, but it is now run by his son, Fredy Jr. Fredy has amassed a very nice collection of cars and he views the Autobau as a way to ‘share the passion’, so to speak. There are guided tours available with docents who can explain the cars. It is also open to the general public twice a week for self- tours. Frequently it is used for private events, weddings, business meetings etc, more information as to times and schedules is available at www.autobau.ch www.porscheroadandrace.com Small test track in front of Autobau, with the Autobau Factory in the background The collection is housed in an old alcohol tank storage facility in Romanshorn which was built at the turn of the 20th century, but closed in 1996. -

The company is believed to have taken the decision after indications in Japan that the automotive markets are not getting any better, Honda having recently announced a 56% drop in earnings in the last quarter, compared to 2008. Prior to that the company was looking at other options, such as selling the team on to someone else. This has now been axed and the company will simply close things down and settle all the necessary contractual commitments as quickly as possible. The news, if confirmed, will be another blow to the manufacturer power in F1 as it will be the third withdrawal by a major car company in 11 months, following in the footsteps of Honda and BMW. There are also doubts about the future of Renault's factory team. The news will also be a blow to the Formula One Teams' Association, although the members have learned that working together produces much better results than trying to take on the authorities alone. It also means that there are now just three manufacturers left: Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault, and engine supply from Cosworth will become essential to ensure there are sufficient engines to go around. -

WRC Rallye D'espagne
MEDIA INFORMATION September 1 Round 4: 2013 6 Hours of Sao Paulo New MICHELIN endurance racing tyres: Medium compound for hot weather… mission accomplished! The 2013 6 Hours of Sao Paulo saw Audi Sport Team Joest claim a one-two finish. The job of the two Audi R18 e-tron quattros was facilitated by the early elimination of the TOYOTA TS030 Hybrid following a tangle 35 minutes into the race. However, that didn‟t prevent the German team‟s drivers from producing an exciting fight as they battled for WEC FIA World Endurance Championship points. Their clash lasted until Lap 142 when the N°2 Audi lost a wheel as it re- joined the track after a pit-stop. It was compelled to complete a whole lap with just three corners attached before the situation was corrected during an unscheduled stop. Despite all these incidents, MICHELIN Motorsport‟s technical staff were able to carry out a thorough analysis of the brand‟s latest LMP1 endurance racing tyres after they had used the summer break to develop new solutions adapted to the more abrasive tracks visited by the second half of the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship. Audi Sport Team Joest and Toyota Motorsport GmbH were both able to use these new tyres during Friday‟s free practice session. They were won over by their performance and chose to use them for qualifying. “We were pleasantly surprised because we had very few opportunities to test the new medium- compound MICHELIN tyres before leaving for Brazil,” observed Audi Sport Team Joest driver Benoît TRELUYER before the start of the race. -

F1 Advent Calendar 2012 (Day 15) – Ten for Twelve
F1 Advent Calendar 2012 (Day 15) – Ten for twelve Hello and welcome to the F1 Advent Calendar 2012. This is our mini series taking a look at the highs and lows of the season Just gone, the key moments that made it a pretty incredible year. Today we are moving towards the rear of the grid where an intense battle was playing out. This is Day Fifteen - Ten for twelve. The talk from Caterham ahead of the 2012 season was all about moving forward and away from the other new teams they started their time in Formula One with. Two tenth place season finishes in a row had seen them with a cash inJection, and the hope was for them to take a leap forward and start scoring points. The double retirement in Australia wasn’t exactly the start they were looking for, but a 13th place in Mon- aco for Kovalainen and a similar result in Valencia for Petrov meant the team were keeping a comfortable hold on their tenth place. Then came the Singapore Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton put in a pretty fabulous lap to secure pole position on the Saturday, whilst all eyes were on the Williams pair. Pastor Maldonado was proving his pace in the car by hauling the Williams up to second place on the grid, whilst Bruno Senna crashed out in second qualify- ing, finding his way towards one of those pesky walls. The Ferrari drivers were split, with Fernando Alonso up in fifth, and Felipe Massa in thirteenth. Lining up on the front row of the grid, after a minute of silence paying tribute to Sid Watkins, Hamilton pre- pared for the lights to go out and the race to begin. -

It is a pleasure to welcome you all to México as we celebrate our country’s return to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship calendar. Twice before, from 1963 to 1970 and from 1986 to 1992, México City has been the scene of exciting World Championship races. We enjoy a proud heritage in the sport: from the early brilliance of the Rodríguez brothers, the sterling efforts of Moisés Solana and Héctor Rebaque to the modern achievements of Esteban Gutíerrez and Sergio Pérez, Mexican drivers have carved their own names in the history of the sport. A few of you may have been here before. You will find many things the same – yet different. The race will still take place in the parkland of Magdalena Mixhuca where great names of the past wrote their own page in Mexican history, but the lay-out of the 21st-century track is brand-new.
