HOCKEY NSW BULLETIN #27 PAGE 2 Hockey NSW is pleased to announce the return of our highly successful Centre of Development (COD) Program for Under 13s and 15s (DOB 2004 – 2007).

As in the past, the COD will provide 21 hours of high-level coaching in an athlete’s home region and is suitable for players of all abilities.

In 2018, we will continue to provide an Individual Player Plans via Sports Card and an invitation to the Regional Challenge at Moorebank for all participants as well as a local focus on preparing athletes for Hockey NSW Field State Championships for their associations.

Registrations will open on the 7th September 2018 at a cost of $310-$435* (dependent upon turf fees and uniform, which may attract an additional cost). The COD will run from the 1st November 2018- 24th of February 2019.

HOCKEY NSW BULLETIN #27 PAGE 3 Last year’s highly successful Indoor Development Program (IDP) is coming back again in 2018.

Designed to act as a valuable primer ahead of the 2018 Indoor Season, players will be taken through an 8-hour course over two days focusing on the finer points of indoor hockey playing and led by experienced Hockey NSW-appointed coaches.

Taking place in regional centres Orange, Niagara Park and Wollongong, the IDP will be led by identified coaches with expertise and experience in Indoor Hockey. In addition, the State Coaches have also been invited to assist along with the relevant RCC, Kate Pulbrook, Kate Jenner and/or Paul Schofield. For $169.90, each participant will receive expert and individual coaching and a specially designed IDP Singlet.

As an extra bonus, if you register before the 30th of September you will receive FREE entry to Round 1 of the AHL held at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday the 6th of October and Round 3 in on Saturday 20th of October.

There are limited numbers of participants per session though, so don’t hesitate – click here to sign up now.

Congratulations to our two NSW State Teams who travelled to Berri in for the 2018 Australian Country Championships earlier this month.

Both of the Men’s and Women’s teams performed fantastically during the tournament, racking up plenty of wins in the round matches to sit first and second on the table respectively.

Both teams progressed to the gold-medal matches where our Men were victorious over Queensland 5-0, while our Women were unlucky to go down to Queensland 0-1 in a tight game.

Over a dozen athletes from both teams were announced in the Australian Country Representative Teams. The Australian senior teams selected will play at the Hawkes Bay Hockey Festival in New Zealand, while the Australian Under-21 teams will compete at the Oceania Pacific Cup in Fiji in December. HOCKEY NSW BULLETIN #27 PAGE 4 Last week, Hockey NSW sent out a survey to participants via email wanting their feedback on a variety of issues.

If you haven’t yet completed this survey, we encourage you to do it as soon as possible. After finishing the survey, you will go into the draw for a selection of prizes.

Please make sure to check your junk and/or spam folders if you didn’t receive the survey. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact our office on (02) 9764 1911.

HOCKEY NSW BULLETIN #27 PAGE 5 Hockey NSW Life Members

Hockey NSW has recently committed to recognising and acknowl- edging our long list of life members.

Our CEO David Thompson will be attempting to contact and meet with all of our living life members throughout the year to present them with a special life member pin.

Additionally, we will be featuring a life member in each of our Bulle- tins this year to allow the hockey community to get to know these great stalwarts of our sport.

Last month we profiled Adele McDonald. This month, we would like to introduce you to Beverly Wilson who was made a life member in 2004.

What is your earliest memory of your introduction to Hockey? My introduction to hockey was when I was at Teachers College. I was invited to join the College hockey team - as Goalkeeper! I spent 2 years in that position, in that team, playing in the North Shore Women’s competition. When I left College I continued playing but as a fullback.

What is your fondest memory of your journey in hockey? My most exciting memory was when I was selected in the first NSW Women’s Masters team to play in in 1985. Being awarded my A badge for umpiring was also memorable. It was also special being on the Board for NSW Women, and then a member of the first joint Board when the men and women came together. I have thoroughly enjoyed my involvement with Women’s Masters.

What would you tell a junior player to look forward to in hockey? Enjoyment of a great team game is what a junior player should be looking forward to with opportunities to play at representa- tive level. It’s a game for life and the friendships you make can be life-long. Getting involved in umpiring, coaching, managing are also fantastic experiences.
