Domaine Laroche, Chablis `St Martin` 2015
Domaine Laroche, Chablis `St Martin` 2015 PRODUCER Domaine Laroche epitomises Chablis, with impeccable quality and a remarkable 100 hectares of vineyards, including 30 hectares of Premier and six hectares of Grand Crus. Founded in 1850, there is still a dynamism which permeates everything they do. Michel Laroche merged with another family-owned producer, Jeanjean, in 2009 and he remains involved in the business, along with his wife Gwénaël. As part of their aim to retain purity and minerality in the finished wine, Laroche was the first Burgundian producer to move to screwcaps in 2002. VINEYARDS Saint Martin refers to the patron saint of Chablis, whose relics were kept in the domaine's ancient monastery for many years. Domaine Laroche owns 63 hectares of Chablis vineyard on the famous Kimmeridgian soil that gives the wines such precision. Each plot, of which there are 30 in total, has a different exposure, soil depth and vine age which contributes complexity to the wine and means that every parcel ripens at a different time. Gregory Viennois refers to Chardonnay's 'two-day window' of maturity - if the parcels aren't harvested in this time the precious Chablis aromas are lost. VINTAGE The 2015 vintage started with very good conditions during flowering, with dry and sunny weather. These conditions continued and were ideal for preventing diseases during ripening. On the morning of 1st September, a hailstorm affected the vineyards of Les Clos and Les Blanchots. This resulted in a partial loss of yield but didn’t impact the quality of the grapes due to careful sorting in the vineyard and in the cellar. -

The Harrow Wine Story - Top of the World
The Harrow Wine Story - Top of The World We started building this list in 1998, when we had two pages, now we are rated not only as having one of the finest Restaurant Wine Lists in U.K, but were voted in the top 100 Wine Lists in the World this September. Along the road we have picked up a few “Gongs” including Decanter Wine Restaurant of The Year, The AA Wine List of The Year, The Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence and recently “The World of Fine Wine” top award of 3 Stars and The Jury Award for one of the best Wine Lists in the World. Roger is now very much involved in Wine Journalism working for Decanter Magazine and www.the- buyer.net. He is also highly sort after as a Wine Judge and is Panel Chair for IWSC, has spent over 10 years judging for The Decanter World Wine Awards and has recently been added to the judging panel for The Pinnacle Wine Awards, based in Singapore. Roger also sits on The Taittinger Sommelier of The Year Competition. All our wines are served in Grape Varietal Specific Riedel Glasses, which enhances the wine and your experience. We are able to provide a whole range of wines by the glass by using preservation systems such as Le Verre de Vin and Coravin. We list the wines by grape variety giving you a chance to reflect or choose a wine that may not immediately come to mind when you are looking for a specific grape or style. -

Domaine Laroche Vineyards
Domaine Laroche Vineyards The vineyards of Domaine Laroche are spread out across the entire region of Chablis, located in the northernmost section of Burgundy, 150 kilometers (93 miles) south of Paris, between Champagne and the Côte d’Or. Chardonnay is a vigorous variety that therefore requires careful fruit-quantity control. The Domaine Laroche philosophy relies on one-man plots, meaning that one person is wholly responsible for the care of a single vineyard parcel, from the pruning, soil conditioning and control of yields to the sorting of the harvest. Springtime frost, less frequent now with climate change, remains a constant risk that conditions the viticulture. Thus, pruning takes place twice, in order to prevent early budburst that would expose the plants to an April or May frost, as well as to shape the vines and control yields. Domaine Laroche implements a systematic debudding in order to space the branches, ventilate the grapes and control yields. This work is completed by a green harvest if the quantity of grapes is excessive. Leaf removal allows for maximum sun exposure, enabling better and more even ripening of the grapes. The soil is plowed in order to allow the roots to develop under optimal conditions. Crops are also planted for aeration of the soil, and controlled grass-seeding is used to regulate drainage and protect the soil wildlife. Vineyard irrigation is not permitted in Chablis. The area’s unique Kimmeridgian soil contains just the right amount of limestone to impart the mineral characteristics that have become so coveted in Chablis wines. This soil is also composed of the correct levels of gravel necessary for good drainage and a substratum of clay to preserve enough water for the health of the vines. -

Domaine Laroche ‘Les Chanoines’ Chablis 2018
Domaine Laroche ‘Les Chanoines’ Chablis 2018 Grape Varietal: 100% Chardonnay Growing Region: Chablis, France Chief Winemaker: Grégory Viennois Looking for a Chablis that showcases varietal typicity and classic terroir characters - then look no further than Domaine Laroche expressions. This wine is a blend of different vineyard sites of Laroche across the Chablis appellation. Grown in Kimmeridgian soils, with vines planted in a west to north-west orientation. Due to the diverse character of these unique sites, they contribute vibrancy and elegant mineral characters to this early drinking cuvée. Domaine Laroche has a respectful philosophy to viticulture. Many of their vineyards were converted to organic viticulture back in 2010 with a minimum of four consecutive years of organic cultivation (one more year than EU regulations) before they considered their viticulture to be 100% organic. They practice traditional Chablis viticulture - with aerated canopies and leaf thinning employed to prevent growth of botrytis, plus a green harvest as required. Their combined area of vines account for approximately 60 hectares, with the vines having an average age of 38 years. I was in these vineyards in 2018, having a look at the fruit across their sites. After two complicated years, loosing up to 50-60% of the harvest, the team at Laroche were looking forward to a good 2018 harvest in quantity and quality (with a vintage similar to 2015) - plus a return to classic fruit characters. As the fruit arrived into the winery the parcels were whole bunched pressed in a pneumatic press, then the must was allowed to rest for 12 hours at a temperature of 12-15°C in large specially designed wide tanks which aided in aeration during this natural process. -
Domaine Laroche, Chablis 1Er Cru `Les Vaudevey` 2015
Domaine Laroche, Chablis 1er Cru `Les Vaudevey` 2015 PRODUCER Domaine Laroche epitomises Chablis, with impeccable quality and a remarkable 100 hectares of vineyards, including 30 hectares of Premier Cru and six hectares of Grand Cru sites. VINEYARDS Vaudevey is a 35 hectare Premier Cru (Domaine Laroche own 9.96 hectares) which sits to the west of the town of Chablis. The steep slopes rest on classic Kimmeridgean soil; sun exposure on the east/south facing vines, occurs in the morning and early afternoon, which gives good ripeness and an elegance not always found in the more powerful of the Premier Crus. After the storm, the weather conditions were dry with cold nights. In this vintage more than ever, the decision of when to harvest was crucial.
