Community Grants Scheme 2019 To the Lord Mayor and Report No. 76/2019 Members of Dublin City Council Report of the Assistant Chief Executive Community Grants Scheme 2019 Dublin City Council provides support to Residents, Community Associations, Groups providing assistance to Older Persons, Environmental Groups and a number of Local Festivals etc. annually. The criteria required to receive support from this grant fund is that Groups are locally based, and contribute significantly to the local community. Area Committee Reports. Each Area Committee has received its individual area based report outlining the Grants recommended. All grant reports were approved at Area Committee and are included in the Breviate for each local area for the March City Council Meeting and are attached as follows: South East Area Committee appendix 1 Central Area Committee appendix 2 North Central Area Committee appendix 3 South Central Area Committee appendix 4 North West Area Committee appendix 5 This combined report presented to Council also outlines other grants recommended for approval which have a City wide, Social Inclusion and Integration remit. Once approved by the City Council, payments will be processed as soon as possible. There was a change in the boundaries of the 5 Areas in 2014 based on the revised Local Government Boundaries. This review examined the process of the Community Grants scheme as it exists with the following objectives in mind :- quicker processing, more streamlining, transparency, less time consuming system, identifying overlaps, optimum use of IT, timely decisions, more clarity on criteria, evaluations etc. The grants budget for 2019 was approved by the City Council as part of the annual budgetary process. The 2019 scheme closed on 26th October 2018 and 1,166 valid applications were received. 1,042 grants are hereby recommended to the City Council for approval. The total amount recommended is €984,150.08 which comprises €300,000 for local Area projects, €333,750.00 for City Wide, Social Inclusion and Integration projects, €86,500.08 for Informal Adult Education projects, €123,900.00 for the Tom Clarke Bridge Grant Scheme and €140,000.00 for Summer Projects. The Community and Social Development team will monitor grants awarded on the basis of terms and conditions during 2019. The 2019 grants scheme will be reviewed with a view to further improving the process for 2020. Set out also in this report are details of the applications which have a City Wide, Social Inclusion and Integration remit together with recommendations in relation to the amount of grant assistance for each applicant body. It is recommended that Dublin City Council make the grants to the Groups/Organisations as set out in this report. Brendan Kenny Assistant Chief Executive 21st February 2019 CITY WIDE PROJECTS 1. Summer Projects Crosscare manages the city’s summer projects that are run by voluntary organizations on behalf of Dublin City Council. These summer projects have made a major contribution to youth development over the years. It is estimated that over 45 voluntary summer projects will take place citywide this summer catering for up to 10,000 children and with close to 1,500 workers. The Council's Community and Social Development staff will maintain close links with Crosscare and will assure that the highest standards in relation to both the range and extent of activities and childcare protection are maintained. Dublin City Council will manage the budget for the non-voluntary organizations of €50,000. Amount of grant assistance recommended for Crosscare is €90,000.00 DCC Summer projects €50,000, over all €140,000.00 2. FamiliBase The Base, Ballyfermot Youth Centre and Childcare Facility Ltd and Familscope Ltd merged in March of 2014 and T/A Familibase. This was a survival strategy to secure vital frontline service delivery in the community. The merged organization delivers evidence based and informed programmes to parents, children, young people and families that support development across a number of areas eg: personal development, social development, emotional management/regulation, behaviour management, educational development and general wellbeing. Amount of grant assistance recommended €86,250.00 3. St Ultans Childcare Project St Ultans works with the children and the community in the Cherry Orchard area. The work of St Ultans aims to break disadvantage through education and by providing an early intervention service. This grant enables St Ultans to run a campus that supports 500 children, their families and the community on a daily basis. The service is open 5 days a week, 48 weeks a year with a staff of 80 people. Amount of grant assistance recommended €50,000.00 4. Age Action Ireland Limited “Getting Started” is a project designed to develop the IT skills of residents of Dublin City Council’s sheltered housing schemes. Training courses are co-ordinated by Age Action Ireland locations throughout the city using a team of more than one hundred volunteer trainers. Training is not limited to sheltered housing residents and older persons from the communities surrounding the complexes are encouraged to attend. In addition to the training provided there is a demand for more advanced courses in the use of mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras etc. Age Action Ireland provides this where possible. Amount of grant assistance recommended €31,250.00 5. The Fingal Centre The Fingal Centre provides community, family and employment support services to the people of Finglas and surrounding areas. This grant will enable the centre to support development outreach work with the Traveller Community in the Area. Amount of grant assistance recommended €20,000.00 6. St. Agnes Community Centre for Music and the Arts in Crumlin (CCMA) The CCMA provides a platform for the entire community to have access to music and the arts. There are over 400 children and 100 adults involved in the centre. This grant will enable the CCMA develop the centre and it’s musical and artistic programme. Amount of grant assistance recommended €20,000.00 7. Cavan Centre This centre has been in operation for over 30 years and provides a residential resource to support youth and community in marginalized and disadvantaged communities through a community development process. Through their "empowering communities" programme the centre provides invaluable educational, recreational and training experiences for participants who otherwise might not have such opportunities. It is anticipated that over 200 groups from the wider city area will avail of the resource in 2019. Amount of grant assistance recommended €15,000.00 8. Dublin Community Games The City Council has been supporting the Dublin Community Games for many years. It provides many opportunities for children to engage in sporting activities, some of whom may progress to participate in their chosen sports at a more competitive level. Amount of grant assistance recommended €5,000.00 9. The New Theatre The New Theatre is a 66 seat venue in Temple Bar which focuses on nurturing and developing work with new artists. This year the New Theatre will work with ‘Uncut Diamonds Community Drama’, a North Inner City drama group, enabling them to present a production on stage. Amount of grant assistance recommended €2,000.00 10. Dublin Community Growers Dublin Community Growers is a network of Community Gardeners who meet on a monthly basis to discuss community gardening projects in the city and to provide supports to community gardening groups. This grant will enable them to carry out events throughout the year such as training workshops and information sessions on all aspects of gardening which will take place in various community gardens in the city. Amount of grant assistance recommended €1,250.00 11. Songs in the key of D This choir was established in 2013 and has 76 members who come from a diverse and multicultural background from across Dublin City.

Clanns were more clinical in taking their scoring chances and that’s what proved to be the vital difference in the end with a winning score line of 3- 7 to 0-13. As the saying goes, it’s goals that win games! The team’s abilty to score goals had already been well and truly reflected in the victory they recorded against Clann Mhuire in a replay of their semi final, where the final winning score line was 6-12 to 4-12. Great credit is due to the team mentors and managers, including Pat Kane, Clare O’Dea and Martin McDonald, as well as the players themselves.

Chairman’s report In his Chairman’s report Bernard Barron focused on the challenges posed by Covid-19 restrictions and how well the club has been dealing with these. Match activity in the earlier part of the year brought considerable joy to many and no small amount of success for many of our teams, he noted. When restrictions needed to be applied, the club did so fully and effectively and, thankfully, no cases of Covid have come to the club’s attention.     Clanna Gael Fontenoy GAA Club S CLANNS UPDATE Proud sponsors of Clanna Gael Fontenoy U10 hurlers fare well Our U10 hurlers made the short trip to Donnybrook to play our neighbours, Club News Ranelagh Gaels, in a series of friendlies. The team managed by Ronan and Cathal took a while to get into the game Stop Press….Stop Press……. but benefitted from a half-time team talk to change things around in the Evening Herald on Clanns second half. Strong performances were delivered by Ciaran Hegarty and proud history Anthony Hyland in defence, while up front the scores came from Arthur Collins, Donal Clarke and Ryan Byrne, who scored with the last puck of the A report in the Evening Herald this game. Special mention must also go to Ronan O’Connor in goal - both for week (Tuesday) illustrated a part of his numerous saves and tremendous puck outs. this club’s proud history and is worth reproducing in full here. In the other games there were great efforts put in by Conor Crowley, with one particularly fine score, as well as by Sebastian McKenna Cooper and “Mickey Whelan is Dublin gold. They Morgan Groves.     Clanna Gael Fontenoy GAA Club S CLANNS UPDATE Impressive championship win for U16s Proud sponsors of Clanna Gael Fontenoy A beautiful sunny afternoon in Ringsend Park proved the perfect setting for an impressive performance by our U16s to overcome Naomh Olafs in Club News the first round of the football championship. The first half was keenly contested with both sides seeking to move the ball quickly into the forward lines to record scores. It was one such move that led to the Family Fun Day game’s first goal, well despatched by Theo Scolard. This gave Clanns the Be sure to get down to the Club this slenderest of half-time leads of 1-4 to 0-6. A quickly-taken free found on the restart Conor Hennessy in space on the half-forward line where he brilliantly turned on his marker, charged goalwards to blast a rocket to the roof of the net. From here on Clanns took greater control of the game, especially around the middle third where the diamond of Alex Soroka, Rory Tobin, Karl Morgan and Conor Hennessy – who added some fine points to his goal - were very solid in their play.
