The hotel’s signature restaurant, Maialino Mare, from Union Square Hospitality Group is a coastal sister to the original Maialino in New York City. Focusing on seafood-forward pastas and other seasonally-inspired dishes. The design reflects a nod to Italian tradition but is rooted in the local metropolitan, modern setting and community. The Roman- style trattoria encompasses both a modern sensibility and traditionally applied moments such as the high wainscot and the artwork collections adorning the walls. The design references a seaside connection that is not only inspired by the cuisine but the subtle nautical cues from the architecture and the location near the waterfront of the historic Navy Yards.

The Grey

Client: John O. Morisano Contact: John O. Morisano - [email protected] Location: Savannah, GA Year: 2015 Category: Restaurant Role: Interior Design

PLD worked alongside John O. Morsiano and chef Mashama Bailey to restore a dilapidated historic Greyhound bus terminal that had been abandoned for 12 years. The exisitng footprint determined the layout of the restaurant while its history and previous function inspired the design elements throughout. The old diner became the magical little bar at the front, with the counter now at bar-, rather than lunch- counter, height. The main space—the waiting hall—became the dining room. The space that feels trendy but timeless, gesturing toward the past while creating something truly original.
