Oasis Welcome Back Party slated for Friday, October 23rd

A yearly tradition to celebrate the welcom- ing back of all Oasis members for the 2015- 16 season is upon us. This year’s theme again is the very popular Oktoberfest. Historically, Oktoberfest was originally celebrated first in 1810 on Octo- ber 17th to celebrate the marriage of King Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. The festive at- mosphere brought about the inclusion of beer and brat stands to the festival. Apart from the food, Oktoberfest is also known for the outfits known as lederhosen fur die Manner (men) and dirndls fur die damen (ladies). Oktoberfest clothing could vary (see picture) however normal attire could be as simple as jeans with a pat- terned dress shirt for men and a blouse and skirt for women. This year’s welcome back party includes live entertainment, Oktoberfest contests, german beer specials, and an authentic Ok- toberfest menu that includes Hendl (roasted chicken), Wurstl (sausages), Brezn (pretzels), and Rieberdatschi (potato pan- cakes). There will be a sign up sheet posted in the member’s lounge for the event. You may bring guests as well. Cost will be $15/ person. Page 7 The Oasis Spin
