LOCATION

‘Capelli Code’ is primarily set in the fictitious re- gion of the Assunta mountains in the Swiss central Alps, home to the sources of the Rhine, Reuss, Aar and Rhone rivers. As well as the mighty 4,000-metre-high mountain, the Assunta region also contains the imposing but melting Assunta glacier, the Assunta valley – unspoiled by through traffic – and the huge Assunta dam. Nature is king in this rugged alpine region, where humans must submit to their surroundings or pay the price.

The local people are generally introverted and in- itially suspicious of all outsiders. Belief and su- perstition thrive in a fertile breeding ground for myths and legends that have arisen from their battles with the terrible power of nature. The Assunta range is the final destination for many who visit the region: the rugged faces of the im- posing 4,000-metre-high mountain have claimed the lives of numerous climbers, and many people have disappeared in the eternal ice of the mighty Assunta glacier, never to be seen again. So far the Assunta mountains have swallowed up more than 60 people – including our central character, Marie.
