He was from the Lycaonian city of Lystra in Asia Minor, became Paul’s disciple, and later his companion and co-worker. The New Testament indicates that Timothy traveled with Saint Paul, who was also his mentor. Paul entrusted him with important assignments. He is addressed as the recipient of the Epistles to Timothy. January 26 (Roman Catholic Church, When Paul and Barnabas first visited Lystra, Paul healed one Lutheranism) crippled from birth, leading many of the inhabitants to accept January 24 (some local calendars and his teaching. When he returned a few years later with Silas, pre-1970 General Roman Calendar) Timothy was already a respected member of the Christian congregation, as were his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice, both Jews. In 2 Timothy 1:5 (http://tools.wmflabs.org/bibleversefinder/?book=2%20Timothy& verse=1:5&src=NIV), his mother and grandmother are noted as eminent for their piety and faith. Timothy is said to have been acquainted with the Scriptures since childhood. In 1 Corinthians 16:10 (http://tools.wmflabs.org/bibleversefinder/?book=1%20Corinthians&verse=16:10&src=NIV) there is a suggestion that he was by nature reserved and timid. ("When Timothy comes, see that you put him at ease among you, for he is doing the work of the Lord...") [5] Timothy's father was Greek – that is, not a Jew. Timothy had not been circumcised, and Paul now ensured that this was done, according to the text, to ensure Timothy’s acceptability to the Jews they would be evangelizing. Acts 16:1-3 (http://tools.wmflabs.org/bibleversefinder/?book=Acts&verse=16:1-3&src=NIV) According to McGarvey:[6] "Yet we see him in the case before us, circumcising Timothy with his own hand, and this "on account of certain Jews who were in those quarters". 1 of 4 7/18/2015 5:44 PM Saint Timothy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Timothy He became St Paul’s disciple, and later his constant companion and co-worker in preaching. [7] In the year 52, Paul and Silas took Timothy along with them on their journey to Macedonia. Augustine extols his zeal and disinterestedness in immediately forsaking his country, his house, and his parents, to follow the apostle, to share in his poverty and sufferings. [8] Timothy may have been subject to ill health or "frequent ailments", and Paul encouraged him to "use a little wine for thy stomach's sake". 1 Timothy 5:23 (http://tools.wmflabs.org /bibleversefinder/?book=1%20Timothy&verse=5:23&src=NIV) When Paul went on to Athens, Silas and Timothy stayed for some time at Beroea and Thessalonica before joining Paul at Corinth. [8] Timothy next appears in Acts during Paul's stay in Ephesus (54-57), and in late 56 or early 57 Paul sent him forth to Macedonia with the aim that he would eventually arrive at Corinth. Timothy arrived at Corinth just after 1 Corinthians reached that city. The letter was not well received, and Rembrandt's Timothy and his Timothy quickly returned to Ephesus to report this to Paul. grandmother , 1648. Timothy was with Paul in Corinth during the winter of 57-58 when Paul dispatched his Letter to the Romans. (Romans 16:21 (http://tools.wmflabs.org/bibleversefinder /?book=Romans&verse=16:21&src=NIV)) According to Acts 20:3-6, Timothy was with Paul in Macedonia just before Passover 58; he left the city before Paul, going ahead of him to await Paul in Troas. (Acts 20:4-5 (http://tools.wmflabs.org/bibleversefinder/?book=Acts&verse=20:4-5&src=NIV)) "That is the last mention of Timothy in Acts," Raymond Brown notes. [9] In the year 64, Paul left St. Timothy at Ephesus, to govern that church. [8] His relationship with Paul was close. Paul entrusted him with missions of great importance. Timothy's name appears as the co-author on 2 Corinthians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, and Philemon. Paul wrote to the Philippians about Timothy, "I have no one like him." (Philippians 2:19-23 (http://tools.wmflabs.org/bibleversefinder/?book=Philippians&verse=2:19-23&src=NIV)) When Paul was in prison and awaiting martyrdom, he summoned his faithful friend, Timothy, for a last farewell. [7] That Timothy was jailed at least once during the period of the writing of the New Testament is implied by the writer of Hebrews mentioning Timothy's release at the end of the epistle. The apocryphal Acts of Timothy states that in the year 97, the 80 year old bishop tried to halt a procession in honor of the goddess Diana by preaching the gospel. The angry pagans beat him, dragged him through the streets, and stoned him to death.[7] Veneration Timothy is venerated as an apostle, saint and martyr by the Eastern Orthodox Church, with his feast day on 22 January. The General Roman Calendar venerates Timothy together with Titus with a memorial on 26 January, the day after the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul. From the 13th century until 1969 the feast of Timothy (alone) was on 24 January, the day before that of the Conversion of Saint Paul. [10] Along with Titus and Silas, Timothy is commemorated by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Episcopal Church on 26 January. Timothy's feast is kept by the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod on 24 January. In the 4th century the relics of Timothy were transferred to Constantinople and placed in the church of the Holy 2 of 4 7/18/2015 5:44 PM Saint Timothy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Timothy Apostles near the tombs of St Andrew and St Luke. • The Decline and Fall of the Pirates Family
Chapter One The Decline and Fall of the Pirates Family The 1980–1985 Seasons ♦◊♦ As over forty-four thousand Pirates fans headed to Three Rivers Sta- dium for the home opener of the 1980 season, they had every reason to feel optimistic about the Pirates and Pittsburgh sports in general. In the 1970s, their Pirates had captured six divisional titles, two National League pennants, and two World Series championships. Their Steelers, after decades of futility, had won four Super Bowls in the 1970s, while the University of Pittsburgh Panthers led by Heisman Trophy winner Tony Dorsett added to the excitement by winning a collegiate national championship in football. There was no reason for Pittsburgh sports fans to doubt that the 1980s would bring even more titles to the City of Champions. After the “We Are Family” Pirates, led by Willie Stargell, won the 1979 World Series, the ballclub’s goals for 1980 were “Two in a Row and Two Million Fans.”1 If the Pirates repeated as World Series champions, it would mark the first time that a Pirates team had accomplished that feat in franchise history. If two million fans came out to Three Rivers Stadium to see the Pirates win back-to-back World Series titles, it would 3 © 2017 University of Pittsburgh Press. The offseason after the 1979 World Series victory was a whirlwind of awards and honors, highlighted by World Series Most Valuable Player (MVP) Willie Stargell and Super Bowl MVP Terry Bradshaw of the Steelers appearing on the cover of the December 24, 1979, Sports Illustrated as corecipients of the magazine’s Sportsman of the Year Award.

ANTHONY OF PADUA PARISH EFFINGHAM, ILLINOIS “And the Gift Goes On” Today we gather to conclude this Advent Season of preparation as Catholics for the coming of the Savior, Jesus Christ, the Word Made Flesh, and the “Good News” John was chosen to be the herald of. Are we prepared? Did you make a place for the Lord to “come again”. Will he find a warm heart that is receptive to such a heavenly gift? I love to shop for those I love. In past years I would do so and would find places that “WRAPPED”. This tradition is used with a couple of symbolic purposes. One is to keep those in suspense as to “what” is wrapped. Wrapped nicely symbolizes this is an important sharing rooted in fun, and also in love and respect for the relationship we share. Our family was the newspaper carrier for the city of Gillespie. We delivered over 1500 papers on Sundays. Well, my mom saved big bucks saving the left over papers not sold at the stores and using them, especially the Sunday color comics, for her wrapping. While many others may of thought “How Cheap”, we loved it, because it was “from MOM”. God the Father gave us His Son …… God the Son gave up His life on the Cross that we might be set free of our sin ……. Joseph and Mary gave up so much to say YES to the angel that sought them out to invite them to take Jesus as their Son, and our Savior.

  • Heroes and Rallies Baseball
Heroes and Rallies Baseball Setup Pick two teams to go head to head, and fill out your lineups on the scoresheet. Each team receives 8 skill assignments to give to individual players. All of the skill assignments listed below must be used within your starting lineup for a total of 8. A player may possess two assignments if you wish. Rate your lineup by placing the appropriate notation beside a player’s name on the scoresheet. 1) star hitter (H) 2) star slugger (S) 3) star runner (R) 4) star fielder (F) 5) poor hitter (H-) 6) weak hitter (S-) 7) slow runner (R-) 8) poor fielder (F-) Once a player has a skill assignment, he cannot transfer it to another player. There is one additional skill assignment available for an ace pitcher (X). You may, however, choose not to start one. Make any pitcher a poor hitter as well (H-), so there will be two poor hitters if a pitcher is in the lineup. Game Play Roll the dice for each player who comes up to bat, reading the colored die first and the white die second. If a result occurs on the Batting chart which displays an image of a ballplayer, the inning is considered finished with no further scoring. Draw an X in the box on the scoresheet representing the current hitter’s at-bat. When his team next comes up to bat, the next player in the lineup will hit. If the color of a chart result corresponds to the color of the skill assignment of the player who is currently up to bat, the result changes to the one shown on the bottom of the Batting chart.
