Our staff continues to be dedicated to providing a quality rigorous ed ucational program. Monroe Grade School is committed to our families and community and to an ongoing collaborative partnership providing a network of support for each student preparing them for the future. We have included in this handbook information which we hope will be helpful to you throughout the school year. We hope you will use it as a reference whenever you have questions about school programs, events, and procedures. Students are required to share this handbook w ith their parents and return the completed sign-off page to their homeroom teacher as a way of meeting our responsibility in communicating student behavioral expectations and the general rules of Monroe Grade School. Please take a moment to read and sign the Student-Parent and Internet Handbooks. If you have questions do not hesitate to call. Safe, Respectful, and Responsible 4 Lunch and Breakfast Program Monroe Grade School participates in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. Meals are available on advanced purchase or a pay-as-you-go basis. Applications for free and reduced-priced meals based on financial need are available in the grade school office. Students who receive free or reduced meals are entitled to one milk with each meal. Milk is only available at the regular rate. Meal money is collected at the office and can be paid in advance. All student accounts will be balance in May. Overpayment balances will be credited to the following year except for graduating or non-returning students who will be issued a refund by the District Office. Accommodating Children with Special Dietary Needs in the School Nutrition Programs: USDA regulations 7 CFR Part 15b require substitutions or modifications in school meals for children whose disabilities restrict their diets. A child with a disability must be provided substitutions in food when that need is supported by a statement signed by a licensed physician. The physician's statement must identify: • The child's disability; • An explanation of why the disability restricts the child's diet; • The major life activity affected by the disability; • The food(s) to be omitted from the child's diet, and the food or choice of foods that must be substituted. Children without disabilities, but with special dietary needs requiring food substitutions or modifications, must also submit documentation by a recognized medical authority. The physician's statement must be submitted to the school office and will be kept with the child's records. A listing of those children with special dietary needs will be posted in the school kitchen, accessible to staff only.     CITY OF SILVERTON EXECUTIVE SESSION NEWS MEDIA ATTENDANCE POLICY WHEREAS Oregon Public Meetings Law provides that representatives of the news media shall be allowed to attend certain executive sessions of public bodies, but may be required to not disclose specified information (ORS 192.660(4)); and WHEREAS the City of Silverton finds that in the absence of a statutory definition of "news media" as that term is used in ORS 192.660(4) it is necessary to adopt a policy that implements the intent of the Public Meetings Law relating to executive session attendance without precluding attendance by Internet-based or other "non-traditional" information disseminators that are institutionalized and committed to compliance with ORS 192.660(4); and WHEREAS the City of Silverton recognizes that this policy is solely for the purpose of determining eligibility to attend executive sessions, which requires non-disclosure of specified information from executive sessions, and is not intended to otherwise define "news media" or to determine eligibility to report on Silverton activities or to limit access to other Silverton meetings by any person; The City of Silverton hereby adopts the following policy: 1.
