NATE FELDMAN

Minnesota, 2004 Second Year at OSU

A native of Minneapolis, Minn., Feldman joins the Cowboys after spending the last three years at Norfolk State, where he coached both the men’s and women’s tennis squads. Feldman’s successful reign with the Spartans landed him MEAC Coach of the Year honors in 2013, when the men’s team earned its first share of a conference title in school history.

Upon Feldman entering the Spartan program in 2011, the men’s team was coming off a 6-18 season, while the women finished with a 4-17 record. By the end of his stint as head coach in 2014, Feldman directed the men’s squad to 40 wins--the best three-year record in Norfolk State tennis history--and saw the women’s squad to their first winning season since 2008.

Other accomplishments for Feldman while at NSU include coaching the first regionally ranked team in program history, developing eight All-MEAC selections, one MEAC Player of the Year, two MEAC Rookie of the Year selections and 25 Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week selections.

Feldman’s athletes have had great success in the classroom as he has had several Academic All-Americans amongst his different squads who have had the best GPAs of all sports on campus. Several of his athletes received several academic awards, and more than 90 percent of the men’s and women’s team were named to the NSU Honor Roll each year.

Before taking over at Norfolk State, Feldman gained invaluable coaching experience as an assistant at multiple top-tier programs, including a role with the 2010 North Carolina women’s team, which reached the NCAA Semifinals and spent four weeks as the nation’s top-ranked team. Following his run with the Tar Heels, Feldman helped guide the Middle Tennessee State men’s squad to a Sun Belt tournament title, earning him a nomination for the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Assistant Coach of the Year award.

While serving as an ITF travel coach, Feldman mentored players at nearly every major junior and professional event in both the U.S. and South America. The job also took him to more than 30 countries, traveling with some of the top male and female junior and professional players.

Feldman graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2004 with a degree in sports studies before receiving his master’s in kinesiology and sports management in 2005. While at Minnesota, he was a four-year letterwinner and member of the 2002-03 Golden Gopher tennis squad that finished No. 10 in the nation, the highest ranking in school history. He was a three-time Big Ten All-Academic selection and a four-time scholar- athlete. He received his Minnesota State coaching certification and is a USPTR certified professional. He was also the youngest coach in the USTA Northern Section to earn the distinction of “High Performance Certified.” Fluent in Spanish, Feldman has given several lectures on performance tennis in the United States and South America.
