Aug. 29 ^ at No. 5 Florida State L 1-2 WEEKEND RECAP — USC played to a 1-1 tie at home on Sept. 16 against BYU and Sept. 3 Hawaii L 1-2 recorded a 2-0 shutout on Sept. 19 at San Diego. In the BYU match, Rosa Anna Tantillo Sept. 5 Rutgers W 3-2 (OT) tallied her sixth goal of the season to tie the game in the 79th minute as redshirt freshman Sept. 10 % Mississippi State W 4-1 goalie Veronica Simonton recorded her first collegiate start. The Women of Troy outshot Sept. 12 % No. 15 Tennessee L 1-2 the Cougars by a 16-5 margin. Simonton did not record a save on Sunday, but still earned Sept. 16 BYU T 1-1 (OT) her first collegiate shutout against the Toreros. Senior Shannon Cross opened the scoring Sept. 19 at San Diego W 2-0 in the 65th minute at San Diego, followed by a last-second goal by sophomore Tracy Sept. 24 at St. Mary’s 3 p.m. Lansing. USC dominated again with a 17-5 advantage in shots. Sept. 26 at UC Irvine 1 p.m. Oct. 8 * Oregon 3 p.m. NO SOPHOMORE JINX — Sophomore midfielder Rosa Anna Tantillo (San Diego/La Jolla HS) earned 2003 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors after leading the team in goals Oct. 10 * Oregon State 1 p.m. (seven), points (16) and game-winning goals (three). This season, she leads the team with Oct. 15 * at Washington 7 p.m. six goals and 15 points (6-3=15). On Sept. 5 against Rutgers, she scored two goals, Oct. 17 * at Washington State Noon including the game-winner in overtime, in USC’s 3-2 win. Tantillo added her second two- Oct. 22 * California 3 p.m. goal effort in as many games in a 4-1 win on Sept. 10 against Mississippi State. She Oct. 24 * Stanford 1 p.m. registered a five-point game with two goals and an assist in a 3-0 upset win last year on Oct. 29 * at Arizona 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at No. 18 Santa Clara. Oct. 31 * at Arizona State 1 p.m. Nov. 7 * UCLA (FSN) 1 p.m. SUDDEN IMPACT — Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Veronica Simonton (Chino Hills/ Ayala HS) started the season as the backup goalie to senior Julie Peterson, but is making * Pacific-10 match a push to be the team’s starter. She is tied for second on the team in points (2-3=7) after posting career marks last year for goals (three) and points (seven). ST. MARY’S NOTES — St. Mary’s is 7-2 on the season after a 3-2 overtime win against Stephen F. Austin and a 3-0 loss against SMU last weekend. Head coach Paul Sapsford is 15-10-3 in his second season at St. Mary’s. Genevieve Hollis leads the team with six goals and 14 points (6-2=14). USC is 1-0-1 all-time against St. Mary’s. The Women of Troy defeated the Gaels, 3-2, on Sept. 19 last year at McAlister Field. Both teams played to a scoreless tie on Sept. 26, 2001, in Moraga. UC IRVINE NOTES — UC Irvine is 3-4-1 on the season after a 3-0 loss at No. 14 Texas A&M and a 2-1 loss at Baylor last weekend. Head coach Marine Cano is 107-74-25 in his 11th season at UC Irvine. Lauryn Birkinshaw leads the team with three goals. USC is 7- 1-2 all-time against UC Irvine. The Women of Troy have not lost to UC Irvine since their first meeting on Oct. 16, 1994. -- more -- 2004 USC Women’s Soccer • 1 McALISTER FIELD — After sharing the practice field with the football team, the USC women’s Head Coach Jim Millinder soccer team moved to its own facility prior to the 1998 season. The team split games between McAlister Field and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum before playing exclusively at McAlister Jim Millinder is in his ninth season at the helm of the Field, located on the corner of 30th and Hoover, prior to the 2002 season. USC boasts a 22-8-5 USC women’s soccer program. He has a record of 107- 53-14 (.655) with USC and an overall nine-year-colle- (.700) record at McAlister Field. giate mark of 115-80-18 (.582). Millinder has coached USC to six straight NCAA Tournament appearances. A LAST SEASON — In 2003, the Women of Troy went 9-8-4 overall and tied for third in Pac-10 former U.S. National Team member, Millinder was play with a 5-3-1 record. The Trojans made their sixth straight appearance in the NCAA named the 1997 West Region Coach of the Year and the Tournament, losing to Pepperdine (1-0) in the first round at UCLA. 1996 and 1998 Pac-10 Coach of the Year.
