of Christ was confirmed in you.‖ I Cor. 1:5–6 Verse Of The Month

“Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.” Psalm 26:2

Vol. II September, 2011 No. 9

WHO AM I?

At the end of the day, end of the week, end of the month, end of the year, I lay down on my pillow and gaze at the ceiling. Yet another day is gone, an- other minute closer to eternity. “Why am I here, Lord?” I ask in the darkness, feeling His presence near. Then I close my eyes and wonder, how am I mak- ing a difference in someone else‟s life? How many times do I use the word „I‟ when in conversation? How many times a day do I say „me‟? „My‟? When talking to a friend, do I really know their heart? Or do they only know mine? Who or what consumes my prayers? Me and ? Do I fervently pray for others? Where do the hours of my day go? Serving my husband? My chil- dren? The widow next door? The mother who needs a helping hand? Or do I spend time pleasing myself as I simply „put on hold‟ the gentle words of Jesus to visit the fatherless and widows? At the Sunday dinner table, do I make sure everyone knows my point of view, or do I listen to the heart of my brother? After a full day‟s work, with whom do I spend my time? Jesus? My family? Or myself? Do I cry when a heart is hurting? Rejoice with those who rejoice? Do I serve my husband by joyfully doing what „he‟ wants to do? Do I serve my wife by seeking her heart before making a decision? Do I serve my Lord by giving up my time and my will? What do those around me think the most important thing in my life is? Who, really, am I?

Almighty Father, may we be Your children and servants who have prayers for the lost, tears for the hurting, ears for the lonely, hands for the busy, joy for the joyful, time for the family, words that truly care, and an unselfish heart to serve You, our Lord and Master, by serving others day by day.

A PRAYER Teach me, Father, how to go, softly as the grasses grow; Hush my soul to meet the shock, of the wild world as a rock; But my spirit, prompt with power, make as simple as a flower. Let the dry heart fill its cup, like a poppy looking up; Let life lightly wear her crown, like a poppy looking down When its heart is filled with dew, and its life begins anew. Teach me, Father, how to be, kind and patient as a tree. Joyfully the crickets croon, under shady oak at noon; Beetle, on his mission bent, tarries in that cooling tent. WHAT IS THE MEANING? What is the meaning of this life? Is it more than vicious strife? More than false fun and empty trust, More than fulfilling my own lusts? What is the meaning of the love, Shattered souls feel from above? Is it just fantasy inside, Or someplace safe where they can hide?

The meaning of this life is real! Jesus is waiting…to love and to heal; Sin-filled lives and broken hearts, He can destroy all Satan‘s darts. Don‘t let this life confuse you, Jesus will show you what is true. Gaze into His gentle eyes, Don‘t believe the devil‘s lies!

MY LORD IS NEAR IN GOD IS OUR STRENGTH Author Unknown Helen Steiner Rice What room is there for troubling fear? It‘s a troubled world we live in, I know my Lord and He is near, And we wish that we might find And He will light my candle so Not only happiness of heart That I may see the way to go. But longed for peace of mind…

There need be no bewilderment But where can we begin our search To one who goes where he is sent, In an age of automation, The trackless plain, by night and day With neighbor against neighbor Is set with signs lest he should stray. And nation against nation?

My path may cross a waste of sea, Where values have no permanence But that need never frighten me— And change is all around, Or rivers full to the very brim, And everything is sinking sand But they are open ways to Him And nothing solid ground

My path may lead through wood at night, Have we placed our faith in leaders Where neither moon nor any light Unworthy of our trust? Of guiding star or beacon shines; Have we lost our own identities He will not let me miss my signs. And allowed our souls to rust?

Lord, grant to me a quiet mind, Have we forgotten Babylon and Egypt, Rome, and Greece, That, trusting Thee—for Thou art kind, And all the mighty rulers I may go on without a fear, Who lived by war—not peace? For Thou, my Lord, art always near.

26 The Testimony September, 2011 THE VALLEY OF WEEPING THE BEAUTIFUL COLOR Psalm 84:4–6 OF LOVE

What color is God? I have passed through the Valley of Baca, The low, low valley of weeping. Ask the child with skin so fair, I‘ve cried all my sorrows and tears, Is He white like me? I‘ve filled a pool near full of them. Does He have light hair?

But His rain covered them with blessing, Is God dark like me? A sweet balm of Gilead. Asked the child of golden hue, Holding them in a well Has He hair that is dark and curly For a future use for His Glory. Are His eyes black or blue?

As another comes journeying along, I think God is red like me They are parched and falling down. The Indian boy is heard to say, I can draw from my well of tears To refresh and help them rise. He wears a crown of feathers And turns our night to day. I can pull up a bucket of experience, Mixed with His Grace from above; Each one of us knows that God is there Giving them a sustaining draught, In all the colors above, They can journey on, praising God. But be sure of this, the one color He is Is the beautiful color of love. I‘ve moved from that low Valley of Baca, I‘ve traveled to the mountain top. So when your soul goes to Heaven But I‘ve brought a carafe of refreshment When life come to it‘s end, For others who come journeying along. He will be waiting and His hand

Gloria Wright To you He will extend.

There will be no ―colors‖ in Heaven Everyone will be the same,

You will only be judged by your deeds and your faith, HE CANNOT HEAL Not the color of your name. He cannot heal who has not suffered much, So when your time for departure comes For only sorrow, sorrow understands; And you see God in Heaven above They will not come for healing Then you will see the only color that counts… at our touch The beautiful color of love. I think how in the Garden His heart cried out to Thee, He saw the painful burden He carried then for me. He saw the sin committed by men from then till now, And those that were committed. He saw the time was now. He looked into the cup again and groaned and cried aloud, O, Let this cup pass from me, but not my will, O Lord. I think how then on Calvary, He suffered physically, And yet I think the pain was worse He suffered spiritually. Indeed He bore my sins for me. All glory to His name. I need no longer fret and stew, His love is still the same. Oh, Father; help me every day, to come to You in prayer, Confessing all my sins to Thee, and help me leave them there. Oh, Jesus, Praise Your precious name, You died my soul to save. Oh, Lord, I have a plea of Thee. A closer walk I crave. Oh, help me as I daily go about the things I do, To constantly remember Thee, and be in prayer to You. I thank You and I praise You Lord, for all that You have done. I give my life my all to Thee, while here beneath the sun. Reuben J. Shankster

I THINK With soft quiet sigh, I toss it away, the news magazine with events of the day. In the silence of night, at the end of the day, I sit and I wonder at man‘s troubled way. I sit and I wonder at all that I read, of men and their coveting, wealth, and their greed. I sit and I think of the sweet siren call, of the world, it‘s treasures, the millions who fall.

I think of politicians, and all of their boasts. ―The world will be safer. Just give me the post!‖ Beauticians are crying, ―Come try my wares! You will be happy, just by fixing your hair.‖ I think of musicians, with all their renditions, dreams that are deluded, minds and souls in perdition. So with a soft quiet sigh, I‘ve tossed it away, and I sit and ponder at the end of the day.

I think, ―They‘ll never get it right.‖ For like blind leading blind, they grope in the night. They weary themselves, and shut out the day. While hoarding up treasures of stubble and hay. Their children are crying, their lives incomplete, they‘re crying for love… iniquity they meet. Oh, for his soul what will a man give? Oh, that to Jesus all would come; and Live!
