Microgrids are providing a strong and effective support for emerging power distribution system while enabling rapid integration of renewable energy systems (wind, PV, storage, fuel cell, etc.). Typically, these renewable based Distributed Generators (DGs) are connected in parallel configuration to form “parallel-topology microgrid” where each DG usually require two- stage power conversion for low-voltage and low-power energy resources. In the recent study, series/cascaded power converters and series-topology microgrids have received increasing attentions by directly integrating the

LV resources into user-level or medium-voltage microgrids, which could be cost-effective solution and may offer more control flexibility. Besides, the microgrid topologies is still an opening problem to meet the special demand and industry development. Practically, various microgrid application scenarios are springing up, e.g., shipboard microgrid, PET-based residential microgrid, offshore medium-voltage microgrid, and hybrid microgrid clusters. For these emerging applications, this special session aims to disseminate and highlight new research results and practical applications in the modeling, analysis and control of microgrids. Prospective authors are invited to submit original contributions, survey papers, or tutorials, for review and publication in these research topics.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: ⚫ Advanced power control of series-connected PV converter or microconverters ⚫ Power balance control of series-connected storage systems ⚫ Optimal sizing and control of integrated PV-microinverter and Energy Storage ⚫ Hybrid microgrid with parallel- and series-connected microconverters ⚫ Emerging paradigms for wind/PV/storage/hydrogen multi-energy based microgrids ⚫ Architecture design, and reliability and stability analysis of shipboard microgrids ⚫ Modeling and simulation of offshore medium-voltage microgrid ⚫ Topology variations of power-electronic-transformer(PET)-based microgrid ⚫ Network structure of data-center microgrid for high reliability ⚫ Coordinated control and power flow issues of Hybrid microgrid clusters
