Local Scholarships 2018-2019 LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS 2018-2019 DEADLINE DATE: April 2, 2019 (3:00pm) TURN IN TO CAREER CENTER NO EXCEPTIONS!!! Graduating seniors from Sandy High School are eligible to apply for all scholarships. Home School students living in the Oregon Trail School District are eligible for some scholarships. Carefully read the criteria page for each scholarship to check for eligibility. Local Scholarships will be awarded at the annual Senior Awards Program which will be held on Wednesday May 29, 2019, at 7 p.m. in the SHS auditorium. LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS 2018-2019 DEADLINE: April 2, 2019 3:00 p.m. in the Sandy High School Career Center NO EXCEPTIONS! Graduating seniors from Sandy High School are eligible to apply for all scholarships. Home Schooled students living in the Oregon Trail School District are eligible for some scholarships. Carefully read the criteria page for each scholarship to check for eligibility. IMPORTANT INFORMATION! 1. All Local Scholarship information will be available on the SHS website as well as in the Senior Google Classroom on March 1st (or shortly thereafter) to download and print as needed. https://oregontrailschools.com/shs/academic-guidance-counseling/financial-aid- scholarships/scholarships/local-scholarships/ 2. When ordering OFFICIAL transcripts from the Counseling Center, please allow 48 hours for processing time. A cost of $2 per transcript will be charged at the time the order is placed. If an application requests that you attach “an official transcript,” you must use an official $2 transcript! If the application requests that you attach “a COPY of your official transcript,” you may photocopy an official transcript! 3. When asking teachers to write recommendations, please be sure to give them at least two weeks’ notice. It is also a good idea to ask them to have the letters ready about a week before you actually need them. Plan ahead! 4. Scholarship applications can be downloaded and printed from the SHS website or in the Senior Google Classroom. Applications should be neatly typed (unless the application specifically requests something to be handwritten) or NEATLY filled out in blue or black ink. All applications must be submitted directly to the SHS Career Center to Ms. Simoni. 5. HARD COPIES of all applications must be turned in to the SHS Career Center by the deadline! Electronic copies/emailing applications is NOT acceptable! 6. Please, neatly STAPLE each scholarship packet in the upper left corner – please, do NOT use folders, paperclips or envelopes! 7. The deadline for all scholarship applications is April 2, 2019 (3pm)—turn them in to the SHS Career Center to Ms. Simoni! 8. Local Scholarships will be awarded on Wednesday May 29, 2019 (7:00pm) at the Senior Awards Program. Please follow the directions carefully for each individual scholarship application! See Ms. Simoni in the Career Center with any questions. Sandy Alumni Association Scholarship Background: The Alumni Association of Sandy High School has established scholarships for graduating seniors who are children or grandchildren of SHS Alumni. One or more Academic Scholarships are awarded to any student(s) showing interest and ability in attending a 4-year college or university. One or more Vocational Scholarships are awarded to any student(s) interested in pursuing an associate degree at a community college leading to a vocational career (or leading to transferring to a 4-year school). The number of scholarships awarded each year varies depending on available funds. The winner(s) of this scholarship is(are) asked to work once in the Sandy Alumni corn booth at the Sandy Mountain Festival. Amount: Minimum $500 Eligibility & Criteria for Selection: Student MUST be a child or grandchild of a SUHS/SHS alum! Student MUST be a 2019 graduate of SHS Academic: Demonstrated interest, commitment, resourcefulness and positive attitude toward education Academic Plans GPA 3.0 and above (unweighted) Contribution toward school and/or community desirable Vocational: Objective promise of post-secondary success Vocational aptitude as exhibited in high school GPA 2.5 and above (unweighted) Contributions to school and/or community desirable Scholarship Use: This scholarship must be used during the school year immediately following graduation. The money will be paid directly to the school of the student’s choice upon notice from the school that the student has enrolled. Due: April 2, 2019 in the SHS Career Center by 3:00 p.m.! (No applications will be accepted by a Sandy High Alum or an individual member of the Association—all applications must be turned into the SHS Counseling Center!) Awarded: Wednesday May 29, 2019 at the Senior Awards Program at 7 p.m. in the SHS auditorium Bill Tanner/Iris Chambers Memorial Scholarship Background: This scholarship, sponsored by Chambers Cattle Company, is intended for a student who works very hard and who is dedicated to pursuing a post-secondary education. This student may not have the highest GPA, but he or she is dependable and has a strong work ethic. Amount: $300 Eligibility & Criteria for Selection: The student must: Be an active/paid member of FFA Have specific plans to attend a vocational or technical school, a 2-year school, or a 4-year college or university Demonstrate financial need Demonstrate a history of hard work and dedication Scholarship Use: This scholarship must be used the fall immediately after high school graduation. SHS Graduates and/or SHS Home Schoolers: SHS graduates and SHS Home Schoolers residing in OTSD Due: April 2, 2019in the SHS Career Center by 3:00 p.m.! Clackamas County Bank Scholarship Background: Clackamas County Bank of Sandy, Oregon, has established two annual scholarships for an outstanding senior boy or girl whose interest is post-secondary education in the area of business or accounting. Amount: Two (2) at $2,500.00 each Eligibility & Criteria for Selection: The student must show: Objective promise of post-secondary education Academic achievement, particularly in any related courses at Sandy High School Extra-curricular activities Field of career interest must be in accounting or the financial field Plan to attend a 2-or 4-year college in the Pacific Northwest that is accredited and features training in the area of Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance Scholarship Use: Scholarship money will be paid directly to the office of financial aid of the institution of the student’s choice. The scholarship recipient must plan to enroll for post-secondary education the fall term after graduation. In the event that the scholarship is not used beginning the fall term after graduation, the money will revert back to the Clackamas County Bank Scholarship Fund or may be awarded to an alternate previously chosen by the Bank Scholarship Committee. SHS Graduates and/or SHS Home Schoolers: SHS Graduates and SHS Home Schoolers residing in OTSD Due: April 2, 2019, in the SHS Career Center by 3:00 p.m.! The Dorothy Nelson Shrum Trust Scholarships Background: The Dorothy Shrum Trust provides four different scholarships, each with its own criteria. PLEASE be sure to read criteria carefully and pick up the appropriate application as all are different! You may apply for only ONE Shrum Scholarship! Amount: Each scholarship usually pays between $500 and $1,500 depending on available funds. The scholarships will be paid out in thirds (fall, winter and spring quarters) for schools on a quarter system, or in halves for schools on a semester calendar. Students must earn a 2.5 or a 2.25 (depending on the scholarship) or better each term to get the next term’s check. Winners must submit grades each term! Eligibility and Criteria: 1. NED AND VICTORIA NELSON EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP SHS GPA of 2.5 or above (unweighted) with strong college preparation classes Major in Elementary, Secondary, or Early Childhood Education at an accredited 2- or 4-year college; other considerations may apply. Maintain a college GPA of 2.5 to continue receiving scholarship funds after first term 2. GORDON NELSON HORTICULTURE AWARD 2.5 or above GPA (unweighted) Attend 2- or 4-year accredited institution of higher education Major in the area of Horticulture (Nurseryman studies) or closely related field Involvement in FFA or 4-H required Maintain a college GPA of 2.25 to continue receiving scholarship funds after first term 3. JOHN EDWARD NELSON VOCATIONAL AWARD 2.5 or above GPA (unweighted) Attend a 2-year accredited vocational or technical school in the state of Oregon Pursue a vocational/technical field NOT intended for students planning to transfer to a 4-year college to get a bachelor’s degree Maintain a GPA of 2.25 to continue receiving scholarship funds after first term 4. DOROTHY NELSON SHRUM AGRICULTURE AWARD 2.5 or above GPA (unweighted) Attend a 4-year accredited institution in or out of the state of Oregon Study in the field of Agriculture or closely related field Participation in FFA or 4-H required Maintain a college GPA pf 2.5 to continue receiving scholarship funds after first term Scholarship Use: These scholarships must be used in the year immediately following graduation. These scholarships are good for one year only; they are not renewable. The money will be paid directly to the school of the student’s choice upon notice from the school that the student has enrolled. The student must remember to submit grades at the end of each term in order for their school to receive the next scholarship check. SHS Graduates and/or SHS Home Schoolers: Only SHS Graduates Due: April 2, 2019 in the Career Center by 3:00 p.m.! Firefighters Scholarship Background: The Sandy Rural Fire Protection District 72 Volunteer Firefighters award two scholarships to SHS seniors who planning a career in Fire Science, Medical Services or Human Services.

INTRODUCTION Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center is a member of Legacy Health, a five hospital system established in 1989 by the merger of two nonprofit systems in the four county metropolitan Portland, Oregon area (herein called metro area).
