By Robert Pritchett Mac Creep Jason Brooks wrote an article in eWeek Magazine titled, "Dealing with Mac Creep", pages 34-38. I found the title rather provocative but the content was pretty good regarding Macs in the enterprise and how much easier Mac OS X has become regarding co-existing in a heterogeneous environment with each release. But he comes form the Windows Server side and Active Directory Domain members with Mac OS X entities being subservient to a Windows-dominant environment. The real challenge is still having a Mac run them without having to resort to either Coherence (Parallels) or Unity (VMWare) and added overhead of extra Microsoft licenses and using anti-virus software in either virtual or dual-boot modes. Thankfully, he kept it short. But looking at the title again, do we look at it as "Dealing with Macs, Creep"; is the Mac user a creep? Are Macs creepy? Or is it that Windows folks feel threatened with Mac systems sneaking in under the tent flaps of their environment? Get used to it. Mother's Day This is the month for honoring mothers. Face it, unless you are a test-tube baby, you would not be here without one. Any female can birth babies, but only those that rear and nurture children can be given the title as "Mother". I have one. My wife is one. And giving birth is not, nor ever has been easy. My wife went through a lot of miscarriages and according to the medical profession, was never supposed to be able to give birth. We have three great daughters who are miracle children. Women who choose to take on this roll go into the valley of death each time and usually, but not always, rise from

I am blessed to have amazing faculty whom I admire and respect on my committee. My mentor, Toby Miller, has been with me since the inception of this project and has never failed in challenging me to expand my intellectual horizons and to sharpen my critical thinking skills. Ellen Reese, Scott Coltrane, and Scott Brooks have equally been significant figures throughout the various phases of my academic career. I would be remiss not to mention Karen Pyke and Jane Ward. Collectively, they have offered me invaluable wisdom, advice, and encouragement. I also wish to express gratitude to my meticulous research assistants, Allie Green, Alan Truong, and Angela Wagner, for transcribing the bulk of my interviews. In addition, I clocked in a lot of hours at my two local coffee shops on Ocean Park Boulevard and on Colorado Avenue (“my virtual mobile offices”). I have probably spent more face time with the baristas there than anyone else while I have been dissertating. I thank all of them, especially Alex, Bastian, and Steven.

It has been accepted for inclusion in ESSAI by an authorized administrator of [email protected].. For more information, please contact [email protected]. Hren: Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet by Edward Hren (Theatre 1100) illiam Shakespeare would not only approve of Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film “Romeo + Juliet”, a modern film adaptation of his The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of WRomeo and Juliet (first printing in 1597), but he would enjoy it as well. In the four hundred years plus that passed between when the Bard’s tale of star cross’d lovers was first told to audiences and people lined up at their local multiplexes and video stores to see Luhrmann’s translation, a lot had changed. The premise that Shakespeare would indeed enjoy the film comes with one simple and obvious caveat. Under this hypothetical, the hypothetical William would have to be up to date on current pop culture. Imagine a youngster coming to Shakespeare for the first time in this day and age and how difficult it is to grasp it early on.

  • Introduction
INTRODUCTION I am keenonlearningEnglishandI have always lookedfor different andnew ways of how toapproachnot onlylanguage understandingbut alsothe knowledge about Englishspeakingcountries.I am also interestedinmanycultural events suchas theatre, concerts ordancing.I was lookingfor somethingthat would connect allthesethingsand I foundit ina musical theatre.I have always beencurious about what it is like tobe an actor, toprepare for a show, tostandonthe stage andhow the actors feel whenthey hear the applause.I have never hada chance tolive this throughbut onthe suggestion of my supervisor I decided to pursue this topic and to deal with the musical called Chicago andBobFosse,itsco-directorandchoreographer. There are manyversions of this musical that were performedall over the world during the second half of the twentieth century. Maurine Dallas Watkins created the play in the 1920s and it was remade as the musical only in the 1960s, when the copyright was soldtoBob Fosse.Finally,in2002, Chicago was filmed withthe actors such as Renée Zellwerger, Richard Gere and Catherine Zeta Jones appearing in the leadingroles. The first part of the thesis deals with the basic introduction of the American musical and with some terms that are closely related to Bob Fosse’s work and are necessaryto beunderstoodinthecontextofthe thesis. The second section introduces Bob Fosse and his status in American musical theatre. However, inthis partI alsomentiontwoother men–JohnKander andFredEbb - whowere veryimportant for the musical theatre inthe time whenFosse created his bestworks. 3 The complexview of the musical Chicago basedonthe Czechtranslationof the libretto, translated by Ivo Havlů in 1978, is provided in the third part. Owing to the unavailabilityof the original libretto,I use Englishtranslations of citations inthe text andthe CzechversionI put intofootnotes. If words inthe film script correspondedwith wordsinthelibretto, thenIusedthemfortranslation.Theothercitationsweretranslated bytheauthor.
