It grew out of the Agency's Operation BLACKBIRD and was a forerunner to the Agency's MKULTRA. Project ARTICHOKE also known as Operation ARTICHOKE was run by the CIA's Office of Scientific Intelligence. The project went deeper into interrogation methods studied in the CIA's Project BLUEBIRD. ARTICHOKE offensive mind control techniques experiments attempted to induce amnesia and highly suggestive states in its subjects. ARTICHOKE focused on the use of hypnosis, forced morphine addiction, forced morphine addiction withdrawal, along with other drugs, chemicals, and techniques. The main focus of the program was summarized in a January 1952 CIA memo, "Can we get control of an individual to the point where he will do our bidding against his will and even against fundamental laws of nature, such as self-preservation?" One program experiment attempted to see if it was possible to produce a "Manchurian Candidate." In Richard Condon’s 1959 novel "The Manchurian Candidate" an American soldier, who has been placed into a hypnotic state by Communist forces, returns home to assassinate on command. Five years earlier the CIA considered the possibility. A January 1954 CIA report asks the question, “Can an individual of [redacted] descent be made to perform an act of attempted assassination involuntarily under the influence of ARTICHOKE?” About BACM Research – PaperlessArchives.com BACM Research/PaperlessArchives.com publishes documentary historical research collections. Project MKULTRA From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_MKULTRA Project MKULTRA (also known as MK-ULTRA) was the code name for a CIA mind-control research program that began in the 1950s[1], and continued until the late 1960s[2]. There is much published evidence that the project involved not only the use of drugs to manipulate persons, but also the use of electronic signals to alter brain functioning.[3] It was first brought to wide public attention by the U.S. Congress (in the form of the Church Committee) and a presidential commission (known as the Rockefeller Commission) (see Revelation below) and also to the U.S. Senate. On the Senate floor, Senator Ted Kennedy said: "The Deputy Director of the CIA revealed that over 30 universities and institutions were involved in an 'extensive testing and experimentation' program which included covert drug tests on unwitting citizens 'at all social levels, high and low, native Americans and foreign.' Several of these tests involved the administration of LSD to 'unwitting subjects in social situations.' At least one death, that of Dr. Olson, resulted from these activities. The Agency itself acknowledged that these tests made little scientific sense. The agents doing the monitoring were not qualified scientific observers."[4] Contents [hide] * 1 Origins * 2 The experiments o 2.1 Budget o 2.2 Canadian experiments * 3 Revelation * 4 U.S. General Accounting Office Report * 5 Legal issues involving informed consent * 6 Conspiracy theories * 7 Pop culture references * 8 See also * 9 Sources o 9.1 References o 9.2 Government Documents o 9.3 Articles o 9.4 Books o 9.5 Essays * 10 External links [edit] Origins Headed by Dr.

  • And Issues of Life and Death
TRUTH BE TOLD: TRUTH SERUM AND ITS ROLE IN THE WAR ON TERROR INTRODUCTION It is a terrifying scenario: a terrorist group has acquired numerous canisters of deadly poison gas and has threatened to unleash these weapons of mass destruction upon American civilians. A valiant counter terrorism agent has apprehended an individual who possesses valuable information that could thwart the impending attack, but the individual is immune to traditional methods of “information extraction.” To facilitate a more effective interrogation, the counter terrorist agent transports the subject to agency headquarters and injects him with a chemical compound, which inhibits the subject’s psychological defenses and makes him more responsive to questioning. Fortunately, this scenario is the product of popular Hollywood fiction, and not a description of a real-life occurrence.1 The events of September 11th fundamentally altered America’s awareness concerning the threat of devastating terrorist attacks. The al- Qaeda terrorists who perpetrated the September 11th attacks used commercial airliners as weapons,2 but the specter of an attack employing radiological, chemical, or biological weapons looms over American cities.3 Furthermore, the likelihood that a nuclear, chemical, or biological attack will occur has increased due to the emergence of Iran and North Korea as nations that are currently producing, or could have the potential to produce, nuclear weapons.4 The level of insecurity and anxiety is only 1 24: Day 5: 5 pm–6 pm (FOX television broadcast Mar. 6, 2006). 2 THE 9/11 COMM’N REPORT: FINAL REPORT OF THE NAT’L COMM’N ON TERRORIST ATTACKS UPON THE U.S.

Grant 2 Introduction: Certain times our government takes actions in order to try to protect its people, even when a threat is merely suspected. Many times we do not know about the precautions our country takes in order to keep us safe. Sometimes though, in order to keep us safe, our government might believe it necessary to sacrifice the rights of our people. This was such during the 1950s and into the 1960s when the CIA was experimenting on unwitting U.S. citizens with a new drug called lysergic acid diethylamide often times referred to as LSD or acid, in hopes to outsmart the Soviet Union.
