This past Thursday I had a very nice visitor in my office from Abilene. He is from the Texas Workforce Commission, which has just formed a new organization called the Texas Veterans Leadership Program. The program is designed to assist veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan as they transition from military back to civilian life. His name is Scotty Henderson, and he has a 19 county area in which he has the duty to help those veterans make that transition. Scotty is a 23 year veteran recently retired from the Army. The program is modeled after the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program established under President Reagan. That program involved veterans help- FCCLA SWEETHEART. The Texas Veterans Leadership Program has recruit- ed 28 veterans as Veterans Resource and Referral Specialists to provide veterans with employment and training services. They are stationed in workforce centers in each Local Workforce Development Board area while working closely with workforce center staff and the local staff of the Texas Veterans Commission. Returning veterans, employers interested in hiring veterans, and organizations seek- ing to join their effort, can find their local Veterans Resource and Referral Specialist at vets.texasworkforce.org or by calling 1-888-VET-TEX1. This is another service designed to help a veteran.
