REVIEW: ‘A Simple Favor’ takes audience on wild ride By Shannon Poe News Editor

A Simple Favor, starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, was recently released and it was one of the wildest movies I’ve seen in a while. The movie centers around two moms, one is Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), the picture- perfect mom who has her own “mommy” vlog, and the other is a working mom in the city named Emily (Blake Lively). The two become unlikely friends after their sons become friends in school, and share their darkest secrets with each other. Emily suddenly disappears after asking Stephanie to watch her son and the rest of the movie is spent trying to “find” Emily. When I first watched the trailer, I thought I wouldn’t like the movie because of how shallow it felt. I didn’t want to sit in a theatre and watch an almost two-hour movie about a missing mom. I felt like that had been done before and there would only be two outcomes, she would be dead or alive. I went against my gut and watched it anyway, and Art from IMDB I’m glad I did. The SFA women’s tennis team is competing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Texas Regionals tournament Oct. 18-22 at Texas A&M in College Station. This is the biggest tournament the Ladyjacks tennis team will compete in during the fall. They have played in two tournaments so far for the 2018-19 preseason— the Rice invitational and the Ragin’ Cajun invitational. It’s the first year Erin Scott is coaching for the Ladyjacks tennis after spending 12 years coaching at the University of Texas in San Antonio. She says in the last two invitationals, she’s happy with the progress the team has made and she is excited to see where the team will stand based on the tournament. “In each tournament, you are able to reflect and see what the girls need to work on— each of them needs to work on different things,” Scott said. “I think everyone is making strides and it’s showing in their performance in the tournaments.” At the Rice invitational, the Ladyjacks had eight singles and three doubles victories. Those victories came from Kaja Ljubic, Darinka Tiboldi, Kyndall Misak and from doubles competitors Misak and Vera Carvalho, as well as Gabi Guilarte and Tiboldi.
