Every time I was told to let the Turbo S get a lead on me I was saddened only for a mere moment as I knew that I would have my fix shortly and I would get to feel the utter savagery that is the 918’s acceleration. Absolutely one of the greatest feelings I have ever had. Alas, as fast as it all happened, it all came to an end far too quickly as the two laps that I got to enjoy seemed to come to an end in no time flat. I so wanted more, but others were waiting to have their turns so I had to give up the reigns of this beast. On the drive back to the hotel we all basked in our elation of what we had all just experienced. How will I ever be able to top this? Will I be able to? Perhaps in another 10 years or so when Porsche comes out with their next super car? I certainly plan on being here for that; I’m a lifer. So to anyone that thinks that this car is an example of how Porsche has “lost its way”, I encourage you to find a way to drive this extremely rare beast. Beg, plead, pay whatever price they charge, but try to experience it, you will not regret it. The only thing you may have trouble with will be getting the grin off of your face, I think mine is still there... :) If you’re interested, here is a link to my drive. And here’s another great video on the Spyder.

FIRST RUNNER-UP SECOND RUNNER-UP Phillip Duncan’s 2014 Cayman S Chris Labossiere’s 1981 930 turbo Royal Glenora Club… Brunch with a Side of ECU Upgrading by Arthur Potts Those of us that were fortunate enough to attend our first brunch at the Royal Glenora Club were treated to good company, good food and even some serious discussion about Porsches – what more could a person ask. We also got some unexpected support for the club from the Royal Glenora. For each family or individual that attended, a gift certificate for brunch as well as a weekend pass to the club were provided at no charge. No strings attached. We had a private room for just the Polar Region allowing us the opportunity to mingle over Mimosas while renewing old friendships and making new ones. We then enjoyed a brunch with a wide selection of breakfast and lunch entrées, followed by some delectable desserts. Some stayed to continue chatting over coffee while some others went on a tour of the club given by Polar Region member Gwen Potts. Those that had a thirst for more Porsche related discussion attended a mini-tech session on upgrading engine control units (ECU). The presentation covered some of the more common approaches to upgrading, and some of the names of recognized tuners. We learned that we can upgrade an ECU without removing it from the vehicle (via the OBD II port) and, as one example, give a 997 turbo an increase of over 100 hp and similar increase in torque, all for less than one would spend on a quality exhaust system. We want to thank the Royal Glenora for treating us so well, and thank everyone who braved our winter weather for what was a really enjoyable afternoon.
