PRESIDENTS REPORT

The 2010-2011 season has been one of the clubs strongest for many years.

The season started with an excellent “Pathways Night” held in August at Sharks Leagues Club. This educational session outlined the goals, roles and responsibilities that all club members share and acted as a “Season Launch”. This launch was a credit to the team involved with its inception lead by Ian Gatherer, Bruce Reilly, Mel Carr, Dick Davies, Sandra Holden and Kerry Turner.

Our Club has continued to perform incredibly well throughout our age groups and grades at Metropolitan, State and National levels. There were so many stand out results but I’d like to especially congratulate to our top teams in 2010 – 2011; 14A girls – metro state and national champions, undefeated in 3 competitions, 14A boys – metro, state and national champions, 16A boys metro and state championships undefeated in two comps, National League / L1 women NL minor premiers and NL & Metro runners up, M4 Metro champions.

We admire and congratulate our club members selected to represent in school, state and national teams. The whole club is behind our Rep Players so go out show that Sharks spirit.

The Trivia Night was again held at Gunnamatta Pavilion hosted by Dick Davies and assisted by Janine Kerr, Mark Penklis and the Men’s and Women’s NL Teams. This even grew in its second year and was a fun way to raise money for our club. Start studying for next season because this event will remain on our calendar I’m sure.

The annual Sports Luncheon was again held at the Georges River Sailing Club and was again a huge success. This event raised funds for the Club and the Violet Foundation. Jon Harker was the MC and interviewed many special guests throughout the afternoon including Shane Flanagan (Sharks NRL Coach) and John Coates (AOC President). Many thanks to Dick Davies who managed to organize an impressive list of guests and Janine Kerr for leading the event sub-committee. Make sure you don't miss this wonderful event next year.

- 3 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

During this season we again held two School Holiday Kids Training Camps at Sans Souci Swimming Pool which were run by our National League stars. These events were well attended and will surely build up as time goes on. Let me congratulate Ian Gatherer and Karen Kerr for a job well done.

As announced previously a proposal for the development of a dedicated water polo facility within the grounds at Cronulla High School has progressed with a deed agreement having been negotiated with the NSW government.

I was pleased to see club members gaining recognition at the Australian Water Polo Inc awards and Hall of Fame dinner. Sharks life member Peter Kerr became Hall of Fame inductees, together with past Olympian Chris Wybrow , was awarded AWPI Junior Player of the Year, and Bec Rippon was named in the AWPI Team of the Decade.

After 21 years, Bruce (Brew) Falson announced his retirement from state and national team coaching. Bruce had arguably established himself as one of the most successful coaches in . He has talent scouted and then developed countless number of players to achieve impressive results in our sport. His absence from state and national teams will be a loss but thankfully he continues to coach the Cronulla Sharks. Thank you Brew for your contribution to our sport.

Our club is run day-to-day by a small group of very energetic and dedicated volunteers. Our management team is growing year by year but needs more supporters to accept formal roles. At the end of another wonderfully successful year we should all thank those who dedicate so much of their energy and time to make our sport great.

Let’s pull together and continue to make Cronulla Sharks the best club in Australia.

Go Sharkies !

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND PLANNING REPORT 2010-2011 The financial statements of Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo Club Inc that appear in this report have been audited by the auditor duly appointed by the Club Tom Iceton, OAM CA Chartered Accountant. The accounts show a very disappointing loss of -$20,891.58 with the accumulated total of members’ funds of $50,849.36. While this is a large decrease on the previous year’s net profit of $10,934.46 with the accumulated total members’ funds of $71,740.94, we must consider the following points:  Our inventory has been over valued going back several years with the stock purchase price being used to value the stock. We have on the advice of the auditor, depreciated the stock by $6236.17.  We have had several bad debts amounting to $619.30 which we have written off.  National League remains in deficit -$24,207.44 in 2011 compared to deficit of -$14,459 in 2010. The Zagame and Lincoln-Smith Families, The Plant Yard and Cripps and Cripps Real Estate have continued their very generous support of the National League Program. National League fundraising has not been as successful in 2011 as 2010. Net revenue for the Sports Lunch, Trivia Night and Water Polo Camps was $26,871.46 in 2010 compared to $19,253.90 in 2011. While the Sports Lunch remains the most profitable area of fundraising for National League we require innovation in regards to funding the National League in the coming year.  The Academy Program area while still turning a healthy profit of $17,148 has not benefited from team sponsorship this year which amounted to $3,272.73 in 2010. Via the Academy the club offers a pathway for athletes to elite water polo so this profit area is vital to the ongoing success of the club.  The Senior Program area figures’ have shown improvement over the last 12 months showing a small loss of $1,630. Hopefully this is due to the retention of juniors as they move into the senior ranks.

- 5 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

 It is anticipated that the amount of $6093.50 accounts receivable will be paid. My term as Director of Finance and Planning finishes at the AGM on 25 June 2011 after 10 or so years involvement with the club. It is personally disappointing to finish in the red. The club has a bright future to look forward to in the pool and it is vital that all program areas strive to become self supporting. In the coming year we will have additional costs with the employment of a head coach Pedrag Mihailovic as well as the usual increase in fees from our governing bodies. It goes without saying that we cannot continue to draw on our cash reserves. We will need to look at the fee structure, work hard to raise funds to cover the National League costs by way of sponsorship and innovative fundraising. I propose the club form a sub-committee to drive fundraising and sponsorship on behalf of the all program areas. I would like to thank those already mentioned for their very generous support of our club. Also many thanks go to the very generous support of the Sports Lunch to Kemp Strang Lawyers, Subway, Violet Foundation, Elliot Tuhill, Frank Doran Financial Service, Jones Nicholson, Baden Green and Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. Thank you also to everyone who made donations to our other fundraising activities. Finally, many thanks to my fellow committee members for their support and tireless work. Many thanks also to Anne Turner and Turner Bros for their assistance with the Gunnamatta Division’s banking, Chris Brooks and the U16 boy’s parents for organising the U16 Boys NSW Club Championships. I wish Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo Club all the best for the future. Janine Kerr Director of Finance and Planning

CAPITAL PROJECTS REPORT

Another year has passed and the Pool Project is still progressing. At this point in time renewed interest has eventuated and continuing discussion are being held particularly with respect to the Sharks NRL and Leagues Club Development Consortia and Cronulla High School.

Our next steps are to re-establish engagement with key stakeholders in an attempt to ensure that our facility is part of any development master plan and included in any development application process.

I would like to thank all who have helped keep the flame burning and in particular Colin Nicholson, principal of Jones Nicholson, our Club’s National League sponsor.

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS REPORT What a year. I think we posted some of the best results for a single season in the history of the club. The successes ranged from academy teams winning Metro, State and even National Titles to our National League girls winning the National League Minor Premiership (Southern Cross Trophy). The Club was also well represented in National and International Competitions. As well as the competition success the club is enjoying, it is a pleasure to see how the players are carrying themselves. An important part of our club is to display our skills but just as important is to do it in friendly, polite and harmonious manner. This may be a by-product of the inaugural Pathways Night which was held at the beginning of the year. Another thing I feel that has contributed to the club’s success this year has been the volunteers that have selflessly donated their time in one way or another. A couple years ago I started a volunteer program called “put your hand up”. I have noticed this season that more people are doing exactly that. This is not only the coaches and managers (who did a great job) but the people who asked if they can help in any way. This may vary from setting up a pool, reffing a game after you play, ball judge, booking accommodation, running tournaments, joining a sub-committee or helping out at functions such as the Xmas party, Trivia Night, Sports Luncheon or Presentation Night. This is paramount to the club’s ongoing success. Congratulations to Jones Nicholson Pty. Limited who were drawn out of the raffle to be the Major sponsor of the National League Teams for 2011. I’m sure the teams did your business proud. This raffle is an integral part of fund raising for the club and hopefully next year we can sell twice as many tickets. Please get behind this initiative. The Trivia Night and Sports Luncheon were both well supported this year and hopefully it will continue to be the case next year. We already have some exciting guests lined up for the Sports Luncheon so I hope to see you there. The way the club has performed in all areas this session should make any player or supporter to be proud. The immediate future looks good for this great club so let’s all get behind the Club and each other next year and

- 14 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011 beyond. Finally I would like to thank the EXCO for supporting my ideas and sometimes being patient when time becomes my enemy. See you on the pool deck. Go Sharkies Dick Davies

METROPOLITAN / GRADE REPORT With much deliberation I took on this role to try to organise the Grade side of the club. This had its challenges with NSWWPI, making changes to the way the competition ran and all different depending on which grade you were in. Not sure if it turned out the best for us all – but I must say at least we didn’t have as many byes this year on the women’s side. To really do this job properly requires someone to attend the NSWWPI meetings, so a commitment is required from a few people to assist with this. We should have at least 3 delegates available, so we get someone representing our club, at these meetings. If we are wondering why other clubs have things their way – it’s because of decisions made at these meetings and if we’re not there – we don’t get a look in. I would like to say well done to the rest of “the committee” for the great job they have done through the year keeping the club running and thanks to you all for your support throughout the year. It takes up a lot of personal time and I just hope the rest of the club members acknowledge the time and effort that is put in by these club members. I would like to pass on a personal thanks to Mel Carr. She did a fantastic job as Club Secretary & to continue in the role while Wayne was so ill, was incredible. Sad to see you leave the committee and our thoughts are with all your family. Also thanks to Jo Zagame for stepping in when Mel had to call it quits. The Z household lives & breathes Water Polo!

- 15 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

As for my job – a big thanks goes out to Chris Batty & Di Watkins. The 1st division side of the club would not have run and stayed together without the efficiency of both of these people. Both were always keeping in touch with me when required and never said “no” when I asked for their help.

ACADEMY REPORT 2010 - 2011

Wow! What a season. Congratulations to all the Cronulla Sharks Academy Teams on a very successful 2010 – 2011 season. It has been a very rewarding season for all those involved. The Academy was successful in winning 5 x Metro Grand Finals, 3 x State Championships, 2 x National Championships and runner up at 1 x State and 1 x Metro Championship. The U/16 Nationals are in October so we hope to add some more winning teams to the list. The Cronulla Club hosted the U/16 State Championships at Sutherland Pool which was a very successful event. This event was co-ordinated by Chris Brooks and his team of volunteers. A special thank you to Chris and his dedicated team. 16 teams competed and our U/16A Blue team was successful in winning the Championship undefeated, congratulations to Chris Batty and his team. Our U/16B Black team finished 8th and our U/16C White team finished 14th. Three U/16 girls’ teams went to Wagga to compete in the U/16 Girls State Championship. Our U/16A Blue team only lost one game which unfortunately was the Grand Final to Breakers. The Black team finished 10th and the White team finished 16th.

- 16 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

Cronulla had 7 girls chosen in the U/16 State squad. The U14’s National Championships were held in Canberra. The Academy entered 4 teams, 2 boys and 2 girls. This was a very successful tournament with Cronulla winning both boys and girls National Titles. Congratulations to both Sandra and Mark Holden on leading these two teams to three titles this season – Metro, State and Nationals. Special congratulations to the Girls side as they went through the entire season undefeated.

TEAM REPORTS NATIONAL LEAGUE REPORT Cronulla Sharks Women’s National League Team – Minor Premiers / Runners Up Reunion, Alicia McCormack and Holly Lincoln- Smith both healed. The return of Mieke Cabout from orange. Warmest homecoming of Rebecca Rippon a legend. Our home grown stars Patrice O’Neill and Nicola Zagame on fire. The core of the team always unselfish, solid, capable, supportive. Our juniors scratching at their feet, thirsty. It all made the team buzz. Electric ! Southern Cross Trophy for Minor Premiers - dropped only one game. They rolled through the National League finals series - clinical precision, undefeated. The preparation was faultless leading up to the final against two times National League winners the Brisbane Barracuda’s. The team was well drilled and fighting fit. Thanks to Jon Bonafede. They came with controlled optimism but marked respect. The game started and they bolted ahead. But then the tide turned. The wind changed. Our team kept cool but they were hotter. At full time they were level. It should have been all over but…. Extra-time, still locked together, only just made it. Penalty shoot-out ! Bara’s were the victors. Water polo was the winner. Regardless, our NL Girls are an inspiration! A nicer bunch of girls could never be found. Still hungry though. Hungry sharks are dangerous. L1 REPORT – RUNNERS UP (SUMMER)

Alicia McCormack’s recovery from surgery the previous season excluded her from playing the Metropolitan competition in earnest but opened up the opportunity to continue her successful debut as coach.

After seven wins in a row the girls finally found their match in Round 8 against Balmain and then only succeeded to win one out of the next five games but were always safe to make the finals.

Unfortunately, Emma Hamilton-Foster moved to following her career prior to the finals and she was dearly missed.

After winning their semi-final against Sydney University 14 – 12 they met the Balmain Tigers in the Grand Final.

In the Grand Final Elysha O’Neill was awesome bravely playing injured for much of the season. Her twin sister Patty also stepped up to be counted but Holly Lincoln-Smith was the stand out. Holly played her heart out scoring four goals, supported by Jana Liessmann and Nicola Zagame with three each. Our secret weapon, Jess Brooks, scored two vital goals to keep us in the game but we fell short by one goal.

Cronulla 15 (Holly Lincoln-Smith 4, Nicola Zagame 3, Jana Liessmann 3, Maddison Schmid 2, Jessica Brooks 2, Patrice O'Neill 1) def by Balmain 16

Congratulations to Macca and the Team on a fantastic season.

LADIES L2 REPORT 2010-2011 This year saw a more stable L2 team – thank you to management for taking on board concerns raised over the previous seasons. The team consisted of a mix of more experienced players and those who are really starting to make their mark in the game – a great way to mentor our up and coming juniors. As happens however, there were many earlier games where there was a bit of mix and match as team members juggled HSC and Uni commitments, representative duties and social imperatives. We had some mixed results that in reality reflected our match availability training regime. Unfortunately we just missed out on making the final four. The core team consisted of Kate Allum, Rachel Collier, Michaela Davies (gk), Emma Falson, Phoebe Halpin, Lauren Houston, Brigette Moore, Mackenzie Moores-Sipos, Bianca Smith, Lara Turnbull, Kristyn Watkins and Charlotte Williamson with cameos from Ashleigh Blumor, Jess Brooks, Elise Gaskell (gk), Karen Kerr (gk), Jess Pallis and El Prendergast. It was a pleasure to have such a responsive group of ladies and a supporter base who were willing to help out on table duty. John Halpin was coach extraordinaire. The girls voted Kristyn Watkins as MVP. Kristyn was also the top goal scorer for the L2 competition with 28 goals from 11 matches.

CRONULLA LADIES 3RD GRADE – SUMMER 2010-2011 TEAM: Alicia Batty, Alex Beynon, Josephine Driscoll, Elise Gaskell, Ash Green, Shannon Hood, Caitlin Kerr, Karen Kerr, Laurene Mandelson, Narelle Mitchell, Mikayla Mulcahy, Elizabeth Parkin. Result: 5th This year we had a new team thrown together with a few stayers from our previous years. Welcoming back into the water a few past players, especially Caiti and Laurene who were very handy players to have in the

- 24 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011 water with us. You were both really good with the younger girls assisting them in the water. We were off to a bad start at the beginning of the season with a few losses, but once the fitness kicked in & we started to know how we all played – we had some really great games. We ended up 2 points short of making semi’s, which didn’t help with the bad luck we had at the end of the season with injuries. Poor Caiti was on the receiving end of an elbow, old age is setting in with Kaz’s shoulder and Elise somehow picked up glandular fever (what is the other name for that?) It was great to have a few of the junior girls play in our team when the draw permitted – Cassy, Ash and Elise, you all had a great season. You couldn’t have done it without the support of your parents. Their assistance on the side of the pool and not to mention rushing you from 1 pool to another to make our games! Thanks Danny, Carolyn, Peter and Karen. Also Elizabeth joined us later in the season and did a great job too! Thanks to Narelle for helping out the organizing of the team when Kaz wasn’t around. The team voted on the best and fairest. It was really nice to see that a lot of the players all had different opinions and the selection was quite spread out. Our winner was committed to the team all season, was a great mentor for the younger girls and toughed it out at centre forward all year and was always around to help on the table for 4ths. Congratulations to Narelle Mitchell for a great year and being the “best and fairest” On behalf of our team we would like to pass on a HUGE thanks to Ash Kaesler for refereeing for us for the whole season. Ash volunteered each week and did a great job. For such a young person to be able to handle abusive players and coaches, she did a remarkable job. Well done Ash!

CRONULLA LADIES 4TH GRADE – SUMMER 2010-2011 L4 had another successful year this season and once again made the semi- finals. Unfortunately we lost the semi to Balmain who went on to win the Summer Competition. We had some new blood with Brianna Bryant playing on the field, and Rocko on the side helping with coaching. I am sure he found his greatest challenge to L4's - the warm up. Thanks Rocko for teaching some old and bold water players some new tricks. We had some great goal scoring moments, with Fran's lob, Marion’s long shots, El's driving shots, Karen's pull on, Bri's look away, Glenyce’s centre forward goal, Kath’s corner shot, Gill's extra man, Faye’s bat shot, Val's 5m, and Lyn just continually smashing it past the goalie from 7m out! Even Cammo got into the action. Our goalie, Dr. Grace also had an unbelievable year. She saved so many 5m shots, I lost count. Her reflexes are truly amazing and she saved our game on many occasions. Grace also was invaluable as our team 'doctor', you would be surprised how often Dr. Grace's skills were needed on a Sunday afternoon women’s water polo game. A special note must be said about Lyn Kaesler who only missed one game and was the second highest goal scorer in the competition with 75 goals scored. Thanks L3 for the help on the table, and the juniors for playing up with us when needed. It really shows how our club works together. Once again a huge thanks to Ashley Kaesler for all the volunteer referring she provided to us and L3 throughout the season – a great help and great referring – THANKS” Team: Grace Bryant, Lyn Kaesler, Gill Yole, Val Sugden, Karen Byron, Glenyce White, Fran May, Kathleen Scofield, Fay Allen, El Prendergast, Marion Quinn, Jenny Liessmann, Brianna Bryant Cheers Kath

UNDER 18 GIRLS

The Girl's under 18's 2010/2011 competition was quite a mixed bag. The teams we played against were heavily stacked with L1 and L2 players which resulted in a season that wasn't particularly fruitful. Compounded with illness, injuries, work commitments and that wonderful thing called the HSC thrown into the mix the team still persisted with turning up and having a go. The girls turned up, got into the pool and gave it a go. Despite the odds the team still came out smiling and quite a few times there were some good laughs as well. The 18's team consisted of: Ashlee Green, Becci Churi, Beth Simpson, Brittany Mitchell, Carly Barter, Gabie Lambi, Kate Houston, Kristina Riley, Madeleine Luchi, Megan Johnson. It was a difficult choice for specific awards as all the girls put in a great effort and always maintained a high spirit which made it a pleasure to coach this team.

- 27 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

The MVP for our team is Ashlee Green. Ashlee played in every game with the exception of 1 when I was asked if Ash could play with the L3's as they had a shortage of players. She had a great defensive move at centre back and managed to steal the ball so many times that it was like watching a dancer. Mind you on closer examination, how Ash didn't get caught and kicked out only shows how sneaky the move was. Ashlee was also instrumental on getting the ball up and into the forward players to score. Well done. Most improved goes to Carly Barter. Despite some initial reluctance Carly moved into the centre forward position with good results. Best goal of the season was from Carly with a back handed shot from centre forward whilst being drowned by 2 SNB players. If only I had a camera at that game and got a photo of that face. Great work. Then there was the Under 18's State. Again because of exams a squad of 15 players were put together to ensure numbers were available to cover those players that were going to be unavailable due to school or the possibility on being required for National League. The state squad was made up of: Ashlee Green, Becci Churi, Beth Simpson, Brittany Mitchell, Carly Barter, Charlotte Williamson, Gabie Lambi, Jess Brooks, Jess Pallis, Kate Houston, Kristyn Watkins, Lara Turnbull, Maddi Schmid, Madeleine Luchi, Michaela Davies. With the inclusion of our L1 and National League players into the squad we were well and truly in the running. We lost only one game in the initial draw against SNB by 2 goals which put us into the play offs. Beat Drummoyne in a cliff hanger match by 1 that put us into the Grand Final. Again against SNB and lost by 1 to take out the Silver Medal. A great effort from all the girls in the team and a great result overall.

- 28 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

Two girls that I would like to specifically mention are Becci Churi and Beth Simpson. On the last day both girls made a very mature decision for what they believed to be in the best interest of the team. Both girls showed what could only be classed as brilliant team spirit and should be highly commended for their consideration for the team and their coach. A special thanks to Peter Schmid for his guidance assistance and great humour. To both the Summer Metro team and the State team - You made me a very proud coach and hope to see you all round the pool. Michael Luchi

U16 GIRLS BLUE TEAM

The girls had an excellent summer season. After being ranked 4th the previous season favourable results saw us overtake both UNSW and Drummoyne into 2nd place.

An exciting semi final win in golden goal extra time over Drummoyne saw us in the Grand Final versus the undefeated Breakers. We were 7-7 in the last quarter before losing 7-9. To the State Championships in Wagga Wagga we again drew Drummoyne in the semis but this time we comfortably beat them 10-6 to meet Breakers again. This time they were too strong and we ended with our 2nd silver medal. My thanks to Brooke and Barton Cottle for their outstanding efforts in supporting myself and the girls, in fact all of the parents chipped in making things run so smoothly. The Team: Jessica Pallis (C), Mackenzie Moores, Charlotte Williamson, Bianca Smith, Mikaela Gatherer, Charlotte Cottle, Ashleigh Blumor, Cassie Penrose, Caitlin Roye and Elise Gaskell. This seasons MVP based on 3-2-1 points each week was – Charlotte Williamson and our Most Improved Player was Charlotte Cottle. Thanks everyone for an enjoyable Summer! Bruce Falson – Coach

U16 GIRLS BLACK TEAM This team consisted of Anna Gibson, Brittany Adamson, Corinne Riley, Elizabeth Parkin, Emily Colquhoun, Jasmine Abdalloui, Louise Taylor and Mikaela Milinkovic. The team found themselves with tough competition throughout the whole of the summer comp playing against the best under 16 club teams in NSW. Despite this and the fact that we only had 8 players for the season it was fantastic to watch the girls every week trying their hardest and playing cohesively as a team. Even though they finished in 5th place at the end of the season, the girls gave many of the top teams a run for their money with many close games.

The end of season trip to Wagga for the NSW Club State Championships was a great way to finish the season. Despite coming up against some tough competition at the beginning of the tournament it was great to finish on a winning note, winning our last two matches and coming 8th out of 18 teams. Well done girls! The girls attended training regularly and this enabled them to implement new strategies and skills in their games. Improvement in all the players was great to see throughout the year. Despite being in such a hard competition morale stayed high with the girls continually turning up to training all the way to the end of the season. This is to be commended. Keep up the training and good luck in Melbourne. Brittany Adamson is our Most Valuable Player which was decided by doing the 3, 2, 1 throughout the season. Corinne Riley is our Most Improved. Now about the “Summer Legends” (that’s what I called the team from the start). At the beginning of the season, I was told by another coach that “we don’t take our water polo seriously.” From that perspective, to being undefeated in the Metro Comp, and then finally WINNERS! I have seen your attitudes and skill level improve to the point in Wagga, when you faced your toughest opposition; you came together and worked brilliantly. There were no individual players, just a dynamic and cohesive team. The main observation I made was that you didn’t give up, especially against the tougher teams when we were overrun by our opponents. What we all saw from the sidelines was that you found a way to comeback, and not let the score blow out. With a bit more stamina we could easily have caused a few upsets. I have to admit to being nervous at the start of the season. Not having coached before I knew I was green behind the ears, but as the season progressed my confidence grew, and also my confidence in all of you grew. So I hope that you came away from this season being a little bit smarter, and trusting your instincts and learning to always have a go! You never know what might happen. You are a great bunch of girls and I have really enjoyed watching you improve, and have a little fun along the way. Once again, Thanks Coach Karlos

U14 GIRLS BLUE TEAM

Team: Maddy Nusdorfer, Sam Mitchell, Pip Cooper, Ashley Colaco, Georgia Gray, Ashleigh Mackie, Abby Blumour, Kiara Holden, Kellie McAuliffe, Sara Carroll Coach- Sandra Holden Manager- Robyn Cooper Achievements – 1st Metropolitan, State and National Championships.

We started the season with a mixture of experience and new blood, but unfortunately no set goalie. Our first game proved we had a lot to learn with lots of players new to the A competition. It was evident early that Drummoyne would be one of our biggest competitors and with such an experienced coach, a big obstacle to overcome. Early in the season it was evident our swimming needed work if we were going to give this season a serious go. Skills diminish when you are tired and then even the basics become difficult.

- 34 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

But these girls were hungry to do well and rose to the occasion, adding extra swim sessions to our training. We were also lucky that Maddy was willing to become our goalie, and she made some miraculous saves. She has been rewarded with the top state goalie position and MVP Goalie at Nationals, quite an achievement for someone who only started in goals during the season. Everyone of these girls has made vast improvements from the beginning of the season, and improved their basic skills and reading of the game. This was rewarded with all but one being invited to TAP camp, sorry Kiara but 11 is too young, your time will come though. Seven were then selected into state teams. We also managed a very effective extra man attack with 3 lefties in the team; one thing Drummoyne could never work out how to counter. These girls were willing to work hard and were rewarded for their efforts, but they also ensured that they had some fun along the way. Our scrapbook will be an everlasting memory of great times. This seasons MVP goes to the heart and soul of our team, we couldn’t have done it without you. An awesome player in your own right, great friend, leader and motivator and my support all year long. You truly are a great player in the making, and I wish you and the rest of the team all the best in your future endeavours. Most Valuable Player - Samantha Mitchell Most Improved Player - Georgia Gray. Lastly a HUGE thank you to my support crew. Lisa helping out with swim squads and photos, Jan for being technician, photographer, team physio and all else that you do. Charles for the videos for post match analysis. Mel for being my sounding board and great friend and of course my amazing manager Robyn, for all that you do unseen and unrewarded. You are an amazing person and I was lucky to have your help this season.

14Bs GIRLS SUMMER COMP 2010/11 Joint Minor Premiers/PREMIERS

What a season we had!!!! We started the season well, commencing training hard early in the season. I had a team with plenty of potential but still very new to the game. We concentrated on swimming and basic skills. This was a good time for the girls to bond. We won our first few games easily as the competition was very young and small.

- 36 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

We knew by results that Drummoyne were going to be our toughest opposition. We were beaten 12-5 the first time we met. Drummoyne were of similar age but they had loads of speed, which we knew we would have to work on if we were going to any chance of defeating them. The girls realised that they needed to apply themselves more at training. In the remainder of our games leading up to Christmas we found that our opposition were improving. Our defence though was our strong point. After Christmas, the training was stepped to include 2 swim sessions as week. I had attendance by some of my team at every session but these extra sessions made a difference to how we played. We met Drummoyne for a second time over at Drummoyne pool where we came away with an 8-8 draw in a thrilling match. As we had no specialist goalkeeper Chelsea offered to play in goals when we played hard games. We then continued to win all of our following games and played Drummoyne in round 20, where we beat them 6-4 in another exciting and entertaining match. To see how the girls had improved from the first time they played Drummoyne to how they played on the final round was amazing. Winning this game put us into joint minor premiers. We won our semi final convincingly and met Drummoyne in the Grand Final playing them for a fourth time in the season. The game, as expected was very tight. In a very thrilling match we won 6-5. We were always in front and I don’t think we were ever going to lose, but boy it was great to win. I would like to thank Anne Turner for doing fantastic job as manager and team photographer. For those who have not already seen it Anne put together a great booklet of team photos and made a DVD of both State and Nationals. I would also like to thank Kylie Spencer for being assistant coach/subber at games for the first half of the season. She handed this role over to Michael Luchi halfway through the season as her commitments with her boys team clashed with my team at State and Nationals.

- 37 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

Special thanks to our ref Rhys Holden who did an awesome job each week with our games. He showed great maturity when reffing and was never intimidated by opposition refs or parents. Always fair, Rhys got comments week after week from the opposition complementing him on a job well done. Congratulations to the 14a girls and boys on winning Metro, State and Nationals. Both teams were blessed with some very talented players but it all came down to hard work at training and lots of swimming. Well done boys and girls, you all deserved it. Good luck in future seasons to the 14b and 14c boys too. Thanks for training with us. My MVP had a great season this year being our leading goal scorer. She is also a great defender and reads the game well for someone who has only been playing for one season. She was rewarded with being selected in the u/14s State squad. Most improved player was again playing her first season of metro. Already an excellent defender, she improved greatly as a centre forward and has also improved in her confidence and swimming. Most Valuable Player – (based on 3-2-1 each week) Erin Casey Most Improved Player – Brittany Spencer Congratulations again to my girls Chelsea, Brittany, Mollie, Claudia, Abbey, Daniella, Sharmika, Jade, Brooke, Erin and Thea on such a great season. You all did a great job in winning the 14b Metro Comp. Not everyone gets to win grand finals so enjoy this. I had an enjoyable time coaching you all and I enjoyed watching the development in your play and confidence and also the friendships that have been formed. You are all nice girls and talented water polo players and I was privileged to have coached you. Good luck in future seasons and I will see you around the pool. Three cheers to all of the parents as well. Thanks for getting the girls to their games and training sessions and making our social night’s fun as well as our trips away. NATIONAL LEAGUE REPORT Men’s M1 2010 and National League 2011 Report

The season started with a very young fresh and inexperience squad after the a number of senior players from the previous season decided not to go around again and with GP and Frank Reynolds heading back home to the US. Our oldest player was 23 and the average team age in the late teens. A big challenge for Coach Tony (Tight) Falson, the remaining senior players and the new members of the squad

The Metro 1st Grade Competition was a again a chance to improve our fitness, get the integrate the new members and get to bed in systems and our combinations in preparation for the National League season. We played 10 rounds before Xmas and whilst we did not manage to win any games we managed to take Balmain to the wire at Dawnie, only going down by one goal. Whilst we had a couple of score blow out along the way, these were major learning curves for many of the guys as only a handful had previously experience this level of polo. However, in all matches the team displayed a ‘never give up’ spirit, no matter what the score.

Top Goal scores:

Chris Batty 10 Patch Falson 9 Ben Matthews 5 Nick Brbot 5 Blake Buckley 4

M1 best and fairest player: Patch Falson

- 39 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

With M1 commitments ending in early December and NL not starting until early February, getting quality polo and keeping the team fit and focused was challenging. We also had three US imports (Jon Bonafede [Goalie], Miles Price [Driver] & Clint McLaughlin [Centre Forward]) arriving to bolster the experience of the team but they also would not arrive until mid/late January. Again, a major challenge for Tight to get combinations and understandings happening before the first NL games. Whilst no great expectation were held for the season, it was important to ensure that such a young and inexperienced team developed the right attitude and did not lose it’s way in what was going to be a very tough competition.

The pleasing out was that whilst the team had some disappointing games, they nev er stopped trying, they were very competitive in most games and more importantly broke through for our first win in two seasons (Tight copped a dunking for losing his NL innocence) and followed this with a draw and some other close encounters.

The season again showed we had the talent and ability in the playing group but needed to gain more experience to become a consistent threat to the top NL teams.

The big takeaway for the guys playing at this level for the first time is the need to: . improve overall fitness to a much higher level; . understand that it is the ‘little’ things that count; . practice, practice and more practice is what is required to execute under pressure; . talent alone won’t get you to the top – hard work, persistence and determination play a major part; and finally . whilst individual performances might get the applause, teamwork gets the results.

- 40 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

Although we ended up with the Wooded Spoon again, given the relative youth of our local senior players and the blooding of so many younger at the NL level, there is a potential there for a bright future if we grab and make the most of our opportunities to grow as a team over the coming years,

A big thanks also to our imports, Jon (fantastic in goal), Miles (great outside shooter) and Clint [Big dog] (improved as the season went on and who became a big danger to the opposition in front of goals). Three great guys who all made big contributions to the team and the Club, with Jon just missing out on coaching the women an NL Championship.

Top goal scorers were: Miles Price 57 Clint McLaughlin 30 Patch Falson 19 Chris Batty 17 Ben Matthews 11

NL best and fairest player: Miles Price

- 41 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

Finally, a big thanks to Tight. Two very difficult seasons in which to be in charge and I’m sure that underneath the pain there is a lot and satisfaction in seeing such a young and inexperienced team stand up and fight through the season despite being very outgunned at times. I’m also sure that cracking the ‘duck’ with this group was a big (albeit very wet) moment.

Keith Batty M1/NL Manager 20010/11

M2 REPORT 2010-2011 M2 had 23 players suit up this season. Our M2 and M3 programme is, by a long way, the youngest in NSW water polo, but knowledgeable opposition people are wary of the development inside our youth programme The table shows only 2 wins for the season but doesn’t really tell the tale.

- 42 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

In an additional 6 of the games we were within only a few goals of taking the points. If we win 4 of these games we are playing in the semis. The team finishing 3rd only beat us by 2 goals and then 1 goal in our match ups. Many of the players I had hoped would be the spine of M2 this year were needed in M1 by Coach Tite. This meant those who turned out each week really had to fire up to be close to competitive. We were thrown to the wolves and gave the best we had weekly. As with M3s our game results this year were an improvement on last seasons. Some score lines were ugly at first glance ...... BUT...... there was improvement against every club we played whether it was scoring more against them, or reducing the score spread, or in fact winning some games. The boys deserve credit for this and we must continue to build on these improvements to become seriously competitive. Gentlemen, the critical improvements we need to make are firstly in defence. Every season over the last 3 we have been better at the attack end. The difference must come in stopping the bad guys from scoring. We must respect the ball, at this level every pass is important and no good player ever feels he has the right to be complacent with his possession of the pill. This group will get better with more experience Top Goalscorers: Keeland Tracy 12, Michael May 11, Lefty Brbot 10 Most Improved: Angus Bird MVP: Keeland Tracy Pook

- 43 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

M3 REPORT 2010-2011 M3 had 19 players appear this season each making a valuable contribution. As a comparison to the season previous, where we lost games by 5 previously we went down by 1 or 2, in games where we had been beaten by 14 or 15 we were done by 5 or 6. Credit for this lay with 12 months of additional experience and development across the playing group. My thanks go to Matt Schway, Brad Moller, Jules Cottle, Sam Cocokios, Barbie Turner and Bov Lucy who were the backbone of the team week in and week out. Additional thanks To Jack Jammo, Chiko Rohl and Little Pook for dropping back after M1s finished to lend some starch to their younger mates. Mention also to Matt White, Lachie Clarke, Liam Turner, Nic Brookes, Sid Holden and Jezza Maroun for their contributions to the successes. Bottom line is we missed the semis by 1 win, much improved seasonal results over last year and I will guarantee if we can keep the nucleus of this team, with the boys who really should be playing at this level, there will be end of season games to be contested next summer. Top Goalscorer: Matt Schweighoffer MVP: Matt Schweighoffer Most Improved: Julian Cottle Pook

M4 REPORT 2010 - 2011 4th's had a very successful season again with a combination of young and old players. We were the form team of the summer 4th grade but met our match in the final series losing 8-7 to UNSW/Wests in the major semi-final after leading 7-3 early in the second half. This match was a wake-up call to us after winning all year.

- 44 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

The final was also a tough game against a fired up Blue Mountains with 4ths winning 6-3 and setting a rematch of the major semi-final in the grand final against UNSW/Wests. Cronulla won the grand final 8-7 in sudden death extra time after the scores were locked up at 7-7 all at full time. This was a tough game and the result could have gone either way against a young, strong opposition. It is pleasing to see the improvement shown during the season by the younger players in the team – Ben Stacpoole, Dylan Holden and Nick Brooks. This makes 4th grades' 10th win in a row - A wonderful achievement. Great big thank-you to Ralphy for managing the team during the season and all the players from lower grades who filled in when 4ths were short handed. Many thanks the father's who assisted during the season on the table. - 45 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

M5 REPORT 2010 - 2011 The 5th grade competition was played in two pools and the quality of the teams in the other pool was not known so we were apprehensive going into the final series. The final series turned out to be one of the toughest 5th grade finals series I have played. Having finish second in our pool we played the third placed team from the other pool in the first game of the final series. We ran out comfortable 7-1 victors over Sydney Stinger. In the semi- final we were up against Balmain and trailed 5-6 with 6 seconds left on the clock when Bob Smith scored his second goal of the game to send the match into sudden death extra time. During extra time the Balmain defence made the error of leaving Graeme Warren unmarked on 3 metres and he duly scored to secure the match for the Sharks. The Whitham brothers, Toby Hooker and Zac Quinn had outstanding seasons. Team: Allan Roberts, Ben Whitham, Graeme Warren, Ian Reiprich, Isaac Mitchell, Jack Sampson, Robert Bryant, Robert Smith, Scott Whitham, Toby Hooker (GK), Zac Quinn Coach: Rocko Rocko

- 46 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

M6 REPORT 2010 - 2011 The 6th grade competition was split into two pools and Cronulla had a superb run through the preliminary rounds and finish 9 points clear at the top of their pool. Unfortunately this form was not carried forward to the final series and 6th grade lost their semi-final 7-2 to the eventual 6th grade winners Sydney Uni. The team was made up of two older players Erik and Ralph with rest of the players all under 18 and the semi-final was a case of the young bull up against the old wiser bull with Cronulla making too many errors during the game. It was pleasing to see the development of the younger players throughout the season and if they continue to play grade they should develop into handy water polo players. Team: Arin Cockle, Conor Davis, Daniel Brown, Erik Matzen, James Ryan, Mason Bell, Mitchell Churi, Nathaniel McKenzie-Hicks, Ralph French, Rhys Holden, Ryan Sweikert, Thomas Freeman (GK) Coach: Ralphy Bob

UNDER 18 BOYS After 30 years of playing & coaching at Cronulla Water Polo Club I have decided to call it a day & step down from coaching. It’s had its ups and downs, but the ups far outweighed the downs and I have thoroughly enjoyed all my years of involvement. Especially rewarding has been my involvement with the young kids, helping them grow and develop as polo players and as young adults. I’ve had an absolute ball and will miss it greatly. All my thanks to those kids and adults who have made my time at the club so enjoyable, there are too many to mention but those who matter know. Thanks So this is my last report, (not that I have written many)

Tough year polo wise for the 18 boys, late games, school and & uni commitments, no training time, and lack of numbers on game night, all led to more losses than wins. But amongst all those negatives were some GREAT positives. The effort and commitment put in by the guys that turned up every week, we did improve and we did ENJOY ourselves This year’s Most Improved Player - Jack Jameson Most Valuable Player - Blake Buckley Thank You TIMMO

U/16 BOYS BLACK

A new season, a new team. As soon as the team was selected we got down to business. The boys realised that if they wanted to get the most out of the season as individuals and as a group, they had to apply themselves week in and week out… And they did.

- 48 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011

We started off with some good wins against some tough competition in Syd Uni, Hunter and our fellow Cronulla counterparts. Drummoyne and Wests also challenged us throughout the season and it was good to see the boys improve on their past efforts as the rounds went on. We managed to get through the rounds in the metro competition undefeated. I was starting to feel satisfied with the boys and their results. Some would say “well that’s not hard to do when they are winning every week” but that was far from what was triggering my emotions. The boys trained hard every week and dedicated a lot of time to not only improving their own skills but improving their understanding of each other in the water. You could see these boys enjoyed playing together and it was finally showing. Hard work and team work was my main focus and it would be needed in order to step up a gear before state championships in a few weeks. Our first week of finals in the metro competition we beat Drummoyne 8 – 4. Not a pretty win but a win nonetheless. The following weekend we played in the championships and the boys maintained their dominance beating two very strong teams in Syd Uni (semi) and Central Coast (final). The games were low scoring and very tough with both ending up 4 – 2 but the boys defence proved to be the key factor with NSW representative goal keeper Sam Cocokios transforming into the trap door spider he is (Tightly inspired). MVP of the tournament went to our very own Mat Schweighoffer who had a great tournament! The following Wednesday the boys returned to play Syd Uni in the final of the metro competition. “Stay calm, defend hard and do what you boys do best – You can do it” were the words of encouragement and to their credit the boys played really well and deservingly winning 7 – 2. Team (metro/state goals): Angus Lambie (11) , Nic Brooks (52), Lachlan Clarke (25), Wade Turner (15), Zac Quinn (30), Dylan Holden (45), Josh Canturi (18), Lachlan Greer (55), Mat Schweighoffer (47), Sam Cocokios (11). I will be honest, I wasn’t going to put my hand up to coach this season however a persistent women by the name of Sandra Holden kept informing me that we had some great talent coming through our junior - 49 - Cronulla Sutherland WaterPolo Club Inc 47th Annual Report 2010/2011 boys ranks and that the club was in need of coaches for that age group. I’m very thankful she did because watching these boys grow and develop into fine young players they are today made me realise how fortunate we are as a club to have such talent. We are privileged to have such dedicated players. The team remains the same for the National Championships later this year with Jack Robertson as a new inclusion. Good luck boys and remember attitude determines altitude! This years MVP is - Sam Cocokios and Most Improved - Wade Turner Endless thank you’s to Chris Brooks for his services as manager and to the endless support from parents! Coach: Chris Batty

Freeman and Mitchell Huge Hughes. Unfortunately numbers were very slim and we were fortunate that the very young but very brave 14 Blacks played before us and a number of these boys would offer to be our bench regularly.

Our Thanks go to the following boys, Declan Spencer, Aden Simmons, Keelan Milinkovic, Daniel Davis, Rhys Holden and Tom Colquhoun. Also thanks to their parents for allowing them to stay back and make late nights to help out the older boys. Remember these were 14B team members being thrown in the 16A comp against some of the best 16s players in the country, none ever let us down.

At the same time enormous thanks need to go to Madalene (Boodsa) Simpson who was asked to run the corner each game night as I was required to referee. For a 14 year old girl to coach a team of under 16A boys is, I believe, a big effort and great clubmanship. Thanks also to Kylie Spencer for her wonderful assistance on game nights in the corner.

Guys we beat the team who came 4th in 2 out of 3 games. Drew 2 games and lost 3 games by 1goal. If we can stop these 1 or 2 goals we are in the season end games.

Boys if you want to be serious in this game, your development needs to see more effort in defence all the time & more concentration when we have possession.

All in all I consider myself fortunate to have got to know all of you we had lots of laughs and I do hope you all had seasons which mean you will line up to play again Team MVP - Tom Freeman Most Improved Player - Jack Robertson Top Goal Scorer - Noodles Churi Coach - Glenn Simpson (Pook) Manager – Michele Churi Regards Pook

U/16 BOYS WHITE

It was a bit of a slow start to the year with the team not starting with a coach or having a training session together with each other until round 3. Throughout the season the boys had their fair share of swim sets, push- ups, dips, planking and butterfly but once the boys started playing as a team and were fit and they started to realise that as a team they could do anything. By the time State Championships came around we showed the other teams that we were going to win some games and we did win 4 out of 7 which shocked a few teams. Well done Boys! The boys couldn’t have done it without their dedication to training and each other and it was an honour to coach them. It was a real pleasure to get to know the boys and I enjoyed the season immensely.

Thank you for the great season and a special thank you to Rhys Holden, Arin Cockle and Liam Turner who played with us all season and at State and to Baiden Clarke who also help out when needed. A very special thank you to our manager Barry and Bernadet Hoy for managing the team and to all the parents for taking their boys to training and to the games Our team MVP was Alex Hoy as he played everywhere, centre forward, driver, centre back and where ever I asked him to play he would go, no questions asked. Our Most Improved Player was Michael Rutiker. Michael started the season hardly being able to swim and to watch his improvement on Sunday mornings doing swim sets the games was an inspiration, not to mention how far he had to travel to games and training. Thank you Boys for a great season I really enjoyed it. Jackson Herrick

U14 BOYS BLUE TEAM MVP – Rhys Holden Most Improved – Jonathon Ryan Metropolitan Comp - Played 15 games won 14, lost 1. Finished 1st State Championship - Finished 1st National Championships – Finished 1st Well what a season! After watching our first training session I was thinking that we had a lot of work to do just to be competitive, and then we lost a player due to injury which left us with 9 players. The boys were given the task of identifying what they wanted to do with their season and what areas of their game they wanted to improve. To their credit as a team with such mixed age ranges (11-14) they began to gel and work with each other really well. Thanks to Tom and Keellan for helping at nationals.

Our team consisted of the following: 1. Ben Scobie (Scoobie) Great first season as goalie and improved to the point that he is now in the state team. 2. Arin Cockle (Emu) A solid season learning new things. Played so well he is in the state team. 3. Daniel Davis (Dan) Perfected his stealth attack and was always solid in defence. Made great improvements throughout the season. 6. Liam Turner (Drama/C.O.D) Very solid in both attack and defence. Was our main goal scorer and also earned a spot in the state team. 7. Jonathon Ryan (Jono/Mini Me) A fantastic first season of polo. Not only a great swimmer but now a great polo player. Jono learnt lots and has a great attitude to learn more. 8. Rhys Holden (Tiny) Another great season where he matured and guided teammates around the pool. Showed great ability in the pool to take control and keep other teams scoreless. Rhys was rewarded with state team selection

10. Jet Turner (Borrid) For such a young player in his first season, Jet really played above his age in some games. His fighting and competitive spirit enabled him to hold his own in the pool. 11. Ryan Greer (Archie) Ryan’s first season saw him learn a lot. His defence was outstanding and he is working hard to improve his centre forward play. Always there enjoying himself and accommodating to others, especially teammates siblings. 13. Jordan Collins (Jordy) Missing in action at training for a while but ensured he was always at the games with or without his tonsillitis. Jordan really started to step up during the later end of the season showing his ability to stamp his authority in a game. I know the boys and the parents really had a rewarding season but I also have thank the parents for their patience and understanding throughout the season. Thanks to Rob for putting up with all my stirring that I gave him (but it has made you a better manager) Lastly I know the TEAM would kill me if I didn’t thank a couple of special extra team mates: Daniel McKenzie (General) what a great role model for young boys as well as a great ref thanks mate. Congratulations on your selection as NSW assistant coach. Robert Bryant (Rocko) was often around the pool offering advice to the boys and generously stepped in to look after the boys for a week of training and their semi final. The boys really loved your added guidance and direction. Thanks for the great season Mark & Rob

U14 BOYS BLUE TEAM Well boys, what can I say, what a fantastic season you all had. We were entered in the U14/A’s Comp. Although we did not make the semi’s we did a lot of improving throughout the season and never gave up. We won a few games and had some fun along the way. Thank you to all the parents for your wonderful support, both to myself, and to the boys. Thanks for getting the boys to trainings and games and being there to support them throughout the season. The boys showed great courage and determination, always playing and trying hard till the final whistle of each game. They all improved, as individual players and as a team unit, showing good sportsmanship and camaraderie. As the season progressed the scores and the games got closer. It was great to see the growth and development of the boys’ knowledge and skills of the game. As well as the friendships they made. Thank you for a wonderful season. I hope you all continue to play and learn and enjoy the game. I am very proud of you all, for your effort this season. U14 BOYS WHITE TEAM

What a season. Starting with a bunch of raw recruits, many who were 11 and 12, we saw an enthusiastic group progress through the season to become a team. For the team, this was their first time playing metro level. The boys had some tough games where they struggled against bigger stronger opposition but also made sure that each week they were in the pool competing. Not once did they give up, not once did they get out of the pool and what was evident each week as the season progressed, was the continued improvement in the all the boys’ skills, effort, teamwork and game awareness, something that only comes with experience. It was also wonderful watching the boys integrate with the other 2 Cronulla U14 teams, with great camaraderie across the whole squad. The boys are to be congratulated on winning a number of their games and pushing some teams to the limit. They were unlucky not win a couple of extra games.

The boys also took on the State Champs at Tamworth in February with the same level of exuberance they played the season. They came up against a number of the strongest teams, who made the last 8 but acquitted themselves with pride and distinction. Notwithstanding some big scores against them, they continued to show grit and play to the best of their ability and continually try. The experience at Tamworth had a positive impact on the team which showed in their remaining metro games upon their return. By the end of the season they had developed great teamwork and confidence. Five of the team also made the trip to Canberra at Easter for the National Club Championships and, like Tamworth, the experience showed through in their game as the carnival progressed. It was fantastic to see the boys challenge themselves against older, stronger opposition. Congratulations boys on a fantastic season, you all played with tremendous heart and positive attitude. It will be wonderful to watch you continued development and performance over the next few years. Thanks to Joanne Ashford-Cox on being such a great manager and to Mark Holden and Kylie Spencer for all your assistance and advice throughout the season Most Valuable Player: Adam White Most Improved: Harry Ashford-Cox Coach - Jordan Gibbons

GO SHARKIES!!!
