Tour de Yorkshire I hope you will all be excited by the announcement of the Tour de Yorkshire passing through your parish on Friday 28th April next year. You can see the route detail here. http://letour.yorkshire.com/stage-1 You can zoom into the map for more detail. At this stage, we understand that this year the whole route will be televised and that there will be a 20 vehicle sponsorship ‘caravan’ ahead of the race. We don’t yet know the timings, but I suspect it will be coming through in the early afternoon. Clearly a lot of planning goes into hosting a successful day and to ensure that spectators remain safe, have sufficient parking, and stay around locally to boost the economy of the area, both on the day and into the future. We also look to minimise disruption to all the businesses along the route with their day to day business. We also encourage communities and schools to join the fun and excitement by ‘dressing the route’ and encouraging children to engage with various pre race activities and line the route on the day. Mrs J Holmes, Economy & Community Manager, Ryedale District Council.

CPAD “ How do we address the ‘lone rescuer’ situation”? In about 30% of cases, the rescuer is alone with the patient, and will be told to stay with the patient by the ambulance service. In this instance how do you get the defibrillator? CHT has developed the VETS™ scheme (Village Emergency Telephone System) to aid communities in this type of rescue. Using telephone technology, a village has a single emergency number they can ring if required to alert up to 10 volunteers to bring the defib, or otherwise assist. This has to be activated by the rescuer and not by the ambulance service (currently). The cost of this is a fixed price per year. Slingsby and Marton are part of it, I think it's about 100 pounds a year. We would be interested in feedback and any comments please.

Carols At The Blacksmiths Arms

Christmas Carols at the Blacksmith’s Arms Many thanks to John and Marcia for allowing us such a warm venue on a cold and foggy night for the Carol singing. Also the appearance of their new arrival with perfect timing to Away in a manger. Thanks to Rev. Martin Allwood for leading us with the singing and Colleen with the keyboard. Numbers attending were down from last year which was disappointing and a few sore throats and ear infections didn’t help the standard of our singing. We were, however, enthusiastic working our way through the song sheet. If anyone has any other suggestions for this year or requests for church involvement in the village, please let us know.

Rev. Martin Allwood, John and Marcia Robinson and the members of Swinton Community Group.

Amotherby Parish Hall The AGM will be held on Wed 8th March at 7-30pm in the committee room at the Hall. The Hall is for the use of Swinton, Broughton, Amotherby & Appleton and currently there is no one from Swinton or Broughton on the committee to represent these villages. Anyone willing to join would be very welcome, please come to the meeting or contact Nige at [email protected] or 695117 for further details. There will be a Table Top & Car Boot Sale at the Hall 9am to 1pm on Easter Monday 17th April. If you would like a table or space (£5.00) please email [email protected] or ring 695117 or 694009 On Fri 28th April 8pm there will be an Old-time & Sequence Dance, music by Nightowl and Faith Supper. Get out your dancing shoes and join us! The Ladies Badminton group which plays (for fun, not seriously) at the Hall 2 to 4pm on a Monday would welcome new members. Just turn up any Monday except 6th March or contact Joyce on 694063.

Many thanks, Nige
